Speedometer Malfunction [12/2013 - ]: Procedure

  1. CHECK CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM 
    1. Check if CAN communication DTCs are output.

      Refer to DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM [12/2013 - 11/2016] or DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM [11/2016 - ]

      Result Proceed to
      CAN communication DTCs are not output. A
      CAN communication DTCs are output. B

    Result: 

    GO TO CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [12/2013 - 11/2016]  or  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [11/2016 - ] 

    Result:

  2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (SPEED METER OPERATION) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Active Test.
    5. Check the operation by referring to the table below.

      Body Electrical > Combination Meter > Active Test 

      Tester Display Measurement Item Control Range Diagnostic Note
      Speed Meter Operation Speedometer
      • OFF, 0, 40, 80, 120 mph*1
      • OFF, 0, 40, 80, 120, 160, 200 km/h*2
      There is a deviation in the values displayed on the speedometer (Control range → Speedometer display)
      Reference mph*1: 
      • 40 → 39.7 to 42.5
      • 80 → 80.6 to 83.8
      • 120 → 121.7 to 124.9

      Reference km/h*2: 
      • 40 → 38.9 to 43.4
      • 80 → 79.7 to 84.7
      • 120 → 120.8 to 125.8
      • 160 → 161.9 to 166.9
      • 200 → 203.0 to 208.0
      • *1: for Speedometer with Imperial Units for Main Scale

        *2: for Speedometer with Metric Units for Main Scale

      Body Electrical > Combination Meter > Active Test 

      Tester Display
      Speed Meter Operation

      OK

      Speedometer indication is normal.

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [12/2013 - ] 

    Result: 

    OK

  3. CHECK FOR DTC 
    1. Check if Vehicle Stability Control System DTCs are output.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [12/2013 - 11/2016] or DTC CHECK / CLEAR [11/2016 - ]

      Chassis > ABS/VSC/TRAC > Trouble Codes 

      Result Proceed to
      Vehicle stability control system DTCs are not output. A
      Vehicle stability control system DTCs are output. B

    Result: 

    GO TO VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL SYSTEM. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [12/2013 - ]

  4. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (VEHICLE SPEED, VEHICLE SPEED METER) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus:
      1. for ABS/VSC/TRAC: Chassis / ABS/VSC/TRAC / Data List.
      2. for Combination Meter: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Data List.
    5. Check the values by referring to the table below.

      Chassis > ABS/VSC/TRAC > Data List

      HINT: 

      • When the data list values of the ECUs match, an internal malfunction of the combination meter assembly is suspected.
      • When the data list values of the ECUs do not match, a signal output error of the brake actuator assembly (skid control ECU) or an internal malfunction of the combination meter assembly is suspected.

    Result: 

    REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [12/2013 - ]

  5. REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Replace the combination meter assembly with a new or known good one.

      Refer to REMOVAL [12/2013 - ]

      OK

      The operation of the speedometer returns to normal.

    Result: 

    OK 

    END 

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY (SKID CONTROL ECU). Refer to  REMOVAL [12/2013 - 11/2016]  or  REMOVAL [11/2016 - ]
