Removal [11/2015 - ]: Procedure

  1. PRECAUTION 
    NOTE:

    After turning the ignition switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal notice before proceeding with work (Refer to PRECAUTION [11/2015 - 06/2017] and Refer to PRECAUTION [06/2017 - ] ).

  2. DISABLE BRAKE CONTROL 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 2

  3. REMOVE REAR WHEEL 
  4. DRAIN BRAKE FLUID 
    NOTE:

    Immediately wash off any brake fluid that comes into contact with any painted surfaces.

  5. LOOSEN LOCK NUT 

    (Refer to REMOVAL [11/2015 - ] )

  6. REMOVE REAR BRAKE DRUM SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Release the parking brake and remove the rear brake drum sub-assembly.

      Contract

      HINT: 

      If the rear brake drum sub-assembly cannot be removed easily, perform the following procedure.

      1. Remove the shoe adjusting hole plug and insert a screwdriver through the hole into the backing plate, and hold the automatic adjust lever away from the adjuster.
      2. Using another screwdriver, contract the brake shoe by turning the adjusting bolt.
  7. REMOVE REAR BRAKE STRUT KIT 
    1. Using SST, separate the tension spring from the rear brake shoe.

      *1 Wheel Cylinder Boot
      *2 Tension Spring
      • SST: 09921-00011 
      NOTE:

      Do not damage the wheel cylinder boot.

    2. Using SST, remove the 2 shoe hold down spring cups, shoe hold down spring, pin and rear brake shoe.

      • SST: 09718-00011 
    3. Remove the shoe tension spring.

    4. Using SST, remove the 2 shoe hold down spring cups, shoe hold down spring, pin and rear brake shoe.

      • SST: 09718-00011 
    5. Remove the tension spring from the rear brake shoe and remove the rear brake strut kit.

  8. SEPARATE NO. 3 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using needle-nose pliers, separate the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly.

  9. REMOVE REAR BRAKE AUTOMATIC ADJUST LEVER 
    1. Remove the rear brake automatic adjust lever tension spring and rear brake automatic adjust lever.

  10. REMOVE REAR DRUM BRAKE BLEEDER PLUG CAP 
  11. REMOVE REAR DRUM BRAKE BLEEDER PLUG 
  12. REMOVE REAR WHEEL BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using a union nut wrench, disconnect the brake line from the rear brake wheel cylinder assembly.

    2. Remove the 2 bolts and rear wheel brake cylinder assembly from the backing plate.
