DTC P0597-14: Thermostat Heater Control Circuit Short to Ground or Open [11/2016 - ]: Procedure

  1. INSPECT WATER INLET WITH THERMOSTAT SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Inspect the water inlet with thermostat sub-assembly.

      Refer to INSPECTION [11/2016 - ]

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE WATER INLET WITH THERMOSTAT SUB-ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [11/2016 - ]  . 

    Result: 

    OK 

    Go to next step 

  2. CHECK TERMINAL VOLTAGE (POWER SOURCE OF WATER INLET WITH THERMOSTAT SUB-ASSEMBLY)

    *a Front view of wire harness connector
    (to Water Inlet with Thermostat Sub-assembly)
    1. Disconnect the water inlet with thermostat sub-assembly connector.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C82-1 (ETM+) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V
      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    See step  5

    Result: 

    OK 

    Go to next step 

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (WATER INLET WITH THERMOSTAT SUB-ASSEMBLY - ECM) 
    1. Disconnect the water inlet with thermostat sub-assembly connector.
    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C82-2 (ETM-) - C1-64 (PTCR) Always Below 1 Ω
      C82-2 (ETM-) or C1-64 (PTCR) - Body ground and other terminals Always 10 kΩ or higher
      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    Result: 

    OK 

    Go to next step 

  4. CHECK WHETHER DTC OUTPUT RECURS (DTC P0597-14) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Clear the DTCs.

      Powertrain > Engine > Clear DTCs 

    5. Turn the ignition switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.
    6. Start the engine.
    7. Turn the Techstream on.
    8. Drive the vehicle in accordance with the driving pattern described in Confirmation Driving Pattern.
    9. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes.
    10. Read the DTCs.

      Powertrain > Engine > Trouble Codes 

      Result Proceed to
      DTCs are not output A
      DTC P0597-14 is output B

    Result: 

    CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS. Refer to  CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS [11/2016 - ] 

    Result: 

    REPLACE ECM. Refer to  REMOVAL [11/2016 - ] 

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SEMICONDUCTOR PWR INTEGRATION ECU - WATER INLET WITH THERMOSTAT SUB-ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the semiconductor pwr integration ECU connector.
    2. Disconnect the water inlet with thermostat sub-assembly connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      1G-7 - C82-1 (ETM+) Always Below 1 Ω
      1G-7 or C82-1 (ETM+) - Body ground and other terminals Always 10 kΩ or higher
      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE SEMICONDUCTOR POWER INTEGRATION ECU. Refer to  REMOVAL [12/2013 - ] 

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
