DTC P0500: Vehicle Speed Sensor [12/2013 - 11/2016]: Procedure

  1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (VEHICLE SPEED) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the Techstream on.
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Data List / Primary / Vehicle Speed.

      Powertrain > Engine > Data List 

      Tester Display
      Vehicle Speed
    4. Drive the vehicle.
    5. Read the value displayed on the Techstream.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      Values displayed on Techstream and speedometer display not equal A
      Values displayed on Techstream and speedometer display equal B

    Result:  2

    CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS. Refer to  CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS [12/2013 - 11/2016] 

    Result:  1

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY - ECM) 
    1. Disconnect the combination meter assembly connector.
    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F22-3 (+S) - A43-10 (SPD) Always Below 1 Ω

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result:  2

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    Result:  1

    OK

  3. CHECK COMBINATION METER SYSTEM 
    1. Check the circuits that send vehicle speed signals to this system in the combination meter system.

      Refer to Speed Signal Circuit [12/2013 - 11/2015] Refer to Speed Signal Circuit [11/2015 - 11/2016]

    Result:  1

    NEXT

  4. CONFIRM WHETHER MALFUNCTION HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY REPAIRED 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Clear the DTCs.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [12/2013 - 11/2016]

      Powertrain > Engine > Clear DTCs 

    5. Turn the ignition switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.
    6. Start the engine.
    7. Turn the Techstream on.
    8. Drive the vehicle in accordance with the driving pattern described in Confirmation Driving Pattern.
    9. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes.
    10. Read the DTCs.

      Powertrain > Engine > Trouble Codes 

      HINT: 

      If no DTCs (no pending DTCs) are output to the Techstream, the repair has been successfully completed.
