Speed Signal Circuit [03/2017 - 06/2017]: Procedure

  1. INSPECT ECU TERMINAL VOLTAGE (INPUT VOLTAGE)

    *a Front view of wire harness connector
    (to Combination Meter Assembly)
    1. Disconnect the K21 combination meter assembly connector.
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      K21-6 (+S) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V

      HINT: 

      If any of the ECUs specified in the wiring diagram supplies power to the combination meter assembly, the combination meter assembly will output a waveform.

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

  2. INSPECT COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY (OUTPUT VOLTAGE)

    (to Skid Control ECU (Brake Actuator Assembly))
    1. Connect the K21 combination meter assembly connector.
    2. Disconnect the A33 skid control ECU (brake actuator assembly) connector.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A33-2 (SP1) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG

  3. INSPECT SKID CONTROL ECU (BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY) (INPUT WAVEFORM)

    *a Component with harness connected
    (Combination Meter Assembly)
    1. Check the input waveform.
      1. Connect the A33 skid control ECU (brake actuator assembly) connector.
      2. Remove the combination meter assembly with the connector(s) still connected.
      3. Connect an oscilloscope to terminal K21-5 (SI) and body ground.
      4. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
      5. Turn a wheel slowly.
      6. Check the signal waveform according to the condition(s) in the table below.
        Item Condition
        Tester connection K21-5 (SI) - Body ground
        Tool setting 5 V/DIV., 20 ms./DIV.
        Condition Ignition switch ON, wheel being rotated

        OK

        The waveform is similar to that shown in the illustration.

        HINT: 

        When the system is functioning normally, one wheel revolution generates 4 pulses. As the vehicle speed increases, the width indicated by (A) in the illustration narrows.

      Result

    REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [03/2017 - 06/2017]

    REPLACE SKID CONTROL ECU (BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY). Refer to  REMOVAL [03/2017 - 06/2017] 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SKID CONTROL ECU (BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY) - COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the K21 combination meter assembly connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A33-2 (SP1) - K21-5 (SI) Always Below 1 Ω
      A33-2 (SP1) or K21-5 (SI) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [03/2017 - 06/2017] 

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (EACH ECU - COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the A24 ECM connector.
    2. Disconnect the K3 radio and display receiver assembly connector.
    3. Disconnect the K62 certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly)*1 connector.
    4. Disconnect the K12 DCM (telematics transceiver)*2 connector.
    5. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      K21-6 (+S) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      1. *1: w/ Smart Key System
      2. *2: w/ Manual (SOS) Switch

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    Result: 

    OK

  6. CONFIRM MODEL 
    1. Choose the model to be inspected.

      Result

  7. INSPECT DCM (TELEMATICS TRANSCEIVER) (SHORT CIRCUIT IN DCM (TELEMATICS TRANSCEIVER)) 
    1. Connect the A24 ECM connector.
    2. Connect the K3 radio and display receiver assembly connector.
    3. Connect the K62 certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) connector.
    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      K21-6 (+S) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 4.5 to 14 V

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE DCM (TELEMATICS TRANSCEIVER). Refer to  REMOVAL [03/2017 - 09/2019] 

    Result: 

    NG

  8. INSPECT RADIO AND DISPLAY RECEIVER ASSEMBLY (SHORT CIRCUIT IN RADIO AND DISPLAY RECEIVER ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the K3 radio and display receiver assembly connector.
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      K21-6 (+S) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 4.5 to 14 V

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE RADIO AND DISPLAY RECEIVER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [03/2017 - 06/2017]

  9. INSPECT RADIO AND DISPLAY RECEIVER ASSEMBLY (SHORT CIRCUIT IN RADIO AND DISPLAY RECEIVER ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Connect the A24 ECM connector.
    2. Connect the K62 certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly)* connector.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      K21-6 (+S) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 4.5 to 14 V
      1. *: w/ Smart Key System

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      OK A
      NG (w/ Smart Key System) B
      NG (w/o Smart Key System) C

    Result: 

    REPLACE RADIO AND DISPLAY RECEIVER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [03/2017 - 06/2017]

  10. INSPECT CERTIFICATION ECU (SMART KEY ECU ASSEMBLY) (SHORT CIRCUIT IN CERTIFICATION ECU (SMART KEY ECU ASSEMBLY)) 
    1. Disconnect the K62 certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) connector.
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      K21-6 (+S) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 4.5 to 14 V

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE CERTIFICATION ECU (SMART KEY ECU ASSEMBLY). Refer to  REMOVAL [03/2017 - 06/2017] 

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE ECM. Refer to  REMOVAL [03/2017 - 06/2017]
