DTC B2799: Engine Immobilizer System Malfunction [10/2014 - ]: Procedure

  1. CLEAR DTC 
    1. Clear the DTCs (Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [10/2014 - ] ).

    Result:

  2. CHECK FOR DTC 
    1. Start the engine.
    2. Wait 10 seconds or more.
    3. Check for DTCs (Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [10/2014 - ] ).

      HINT: 

      Before checking for DTCs, perform the "DTC Output Confirmation Operation" procedure.

      OK

      DTC B2799 is not output.

      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      OK A
      NG (DTC B2799 is output) B
      NG (Other DTCs are output) C

    Result: 

    USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK 

    (Refer to HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [10/2014 - 10/2015] Refer to HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [10/2015 - ] )

  3. INSPECT ECM (TERMINAL IMO) 
    1. Using an oscilloscope, check the waveform.

  5. REGISTER ECU COMMUNICATION ID 
    1. Reregister the ECU communication ID (Refer to REGISTRATION [10/2014 - ] ).

  6. CHECK WHETHER ENGINE STARTS 
    1. Check that the engine starts with an already registered vehicle key.

      OK

      Engine starts normally.

    Result:

  7. INSPECT ECM (IMO TERMINAL VOLTAGE) 
    1. Disconnect the A18 ECM connector.

    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      Terminal IMO stuck low (2.4 V or less) A
      Terminal IMO stuck high (12 V) B

  8. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM - CERTIFICATION ECU (SMART KEY ECU ASSEMBLY) AND BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect the A28 certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) connector.
    2. Disconnect the A18 ECM connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A28-14 (EFII) - A18-30 (IMO) Always Below 1 Ω
      A28-14 (EFII) or A18-30 (IMO) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      A28-13 (EFIO) - A18-31 (IMI) Always Below 1 Ω
      A28-13 (EFIO) or A18-31 (IMI) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    Result: 

    OK

  9. REPLACE CERTIFICATION ECU (SMART KEY ECU ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Temporarily replace the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) with a new one (Refer to REGISTRATION [10/2014 - ] ).

  10. REGISTER ECU COMMUNICATION ID 
    1. Reregister the ECU communication ID (Refer to REGISTRATION [10/2014 - ] ).

    1. Check that the engine starts with an already registered vehicle key.
