DTC P0500: Vehicle Speed Sensor "A" [06/2017 - ]: Procedure
- READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (VEHICLE SPEED)
- Drive the vehicle and check whether the operation of the speedometer in the combination meter assembly is normal.
HINT:
- The vehicle speed sensor is operating normally if the speedometer reading is normal.
- If the speedometer does not operate, check it by following the procedure described for a speedometer malfunction.
- Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
- Turn the engine switch on (IG).
- Turn the Techstream on.
- Enter the following menus: Powertrain / ECT / Data List / Vehicle Speed.
- Drive the vehicle.
- Read the value displayed on the Techstream.
OK
Vehicle speeds displayed on tester and speedometer display are equal.
Result:
OK

See step 2
- Drive the vehicle and check whether the operation of the speedometer in the combination meter assembly is normal.
- CHECK COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY (SPD SIGNAL WAVEFORM)
- Check the output waveform.
- Move the shift lever to N.
- Jack up the vehicle.
- Remove the combination meter assembly with the connector(s) still connected.
- Connect an oscilloscope to terminal D9-9 (+S) and body ground.
- Turn the engine switch on (IG).
- Turn a wheel slowly.
- Check the signal waveform according to the condition(s) in the table below.
Item Condition Measurement terminal D9-9 (+S) - Body ground Tool setting 5 V/DIV., 20 ms./DIV. Vehicle condition Wheel being rotated OK
The waveform is similar to that shown in the illustration.
HINT:
When the system is functioning normally, one wheel revolution generates 4 pulses. As the vehicle speed increases, the width indicated by (A) in the illustration narrows.

GO TO METER / GAUGE SYSTEM (SPEED SIGNAL CIRCUIT)
(Refer to Speed Signal Circuit [10/2014 - ] )
Result:
OK
See step 3
- Check the output waveform.
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY - TCM)
- Disconnect the combination meter assembly connector.
- Disconnect the TCM connector.
- Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance (Check for Open)
Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition D9-9 (+S) - B2-3 (SPD) Always Below 1 Ω - Reconnect the combination meter assembly connector.
- Reconnect the TCM connector.
Result:
OK
REPLACE TCM
(Refer to COMPONENTS [10/2014 - ] )
Result:
