DTC B1693: Side Airbag Sensor RH Initialization Incomplete; DTC B1698: Side Airbag Sensor LH Initialization Incomplete [08/2019 - ]: Procedure

  1. CHECK PAST DTC 
    1. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    2. Check for DTCs (Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [08/2019 - ] ).

      OK

      DTC B1692 and B1697 are not output.

    Result: 

    NG 

    GO TO DTC B1692 

    (Refer to DTC B1692: Lost Communication with Side Airbag Sensor RH; DTC B1697: Lost Communication with Side Airbag Sensor LH [08/2019 - ] )

    Result: 

    OK

  2. CHECK FOR DTC 
    1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    2. Clear the DTCs stored in memory (Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [08/2019 - ] ).
    3. Turn the ignition switch off.
    4. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    5. Check for DTCs (Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [08/2019 - ] ).
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      DTC B1693 is output A
      DTC B1698 is output B
      DTC B1693 and B1698 are not output C

      HINT: 

      Codes other than DTC B1693 and B1698 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

  3. CHECK CONNECTION OF CONNECTORS 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.
    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    3. Check that the connectors are properly connected to the airbag sensor assembly, rear airbag sensor RH and side airbag sensor RH.

      OK

      The connectors are properly connected.

    Result: 

    NG 

    CONNECT CONNECTORS PROPERLY 

    Result: 

    OK

  4. CHECK CONNECTORS 
    1. Disconnect the connectors from the airbag sensor assembly, rear airbag sensor RH and side airbag sensor RH.
    2. Check that the connectors (on the airbag sensor assembly side, rear airbag sensor RH side and side airbag sensor RH side) are not damaged.

      OK

      The connectors are not deformed or damaged.

  5. CHECK REAR AIRBAG SENSOR RH 
    1. Connect the connectors to the airbag sensor assembly and side airbag sensor RH.

    2. Interchange the rear airbag sensor LH with RH and connect the connectors to them.
    3. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    4. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    5. Clear the DTCs stored in memory (Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [08/2019 - ] ).
    6. Turn the ignition switch off.
    7. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    8. Check for DTCs (Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [08/2019 - ] ).
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      DTC B1693 is output A
      DTC B1698 is output B
      DTC B1693 and B1698 are not output C

      HINT: 

      Codes other than DTC B1693 and B1698 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

    9. Turn the ignition switch off.
    10. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    11. Return the rear airbag sensor RH and LH to their original positions and connect the connectors to them.

    REPLACE REAR AIRBAG SENSOR RH

  6. CHECK SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR RH CIRCUIT 
    1. Disconnect the connectors from the rear airbag sensor RH and side airbag sensor RH.

    2. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      N9-1 (BCR+) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V
      N9-2 (BCR-) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V
    4. Turn the ignition switch off.
    5. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    6. Using a service wire, connect terminals 2 (BCR+) and 1 (BCR-) of connector E.
      NOTE:

      Do not forcibly insert the service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting a service wire.

    7. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      N9-1 (BCR+) - N9-2 (BCR-) Always Below 1 Ω
    8. Disconnect the service wire from connector E.
    9. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

  7. CHECK SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR RH 
    1. Connect the connector to the rear airbag sensor RH.

    2. Interchange the side airbag sensor LH with RH and connect the connectors to them.
    3. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    4. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    5. Clear the DTCs stored in memory (Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [08/2019 - ] ).
    6. Turn the ignition switch off.
    7. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    8. Check for DTCs (Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [08/2019 - ] ).
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      DTC B1693 is output A
      DTC B1698 is output B
      DTC B1693 and B1698 are not output C

      HINT: 

      Codes other than DTC B1693 and B1698 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

    9. Turn the ignition switch off.
    10. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

  8. CHECK FLOOR WIRE (REAR AIRBAG SENSOR RH - FRONT DOOR WIRE RH) 
    1. Disconnect the floor wire connector from the front door wire RH.

    2. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

    6. Using a service wire, connect terminals 2 (BCR+) and 1 (BCR-) of connector C.
      NOTE:

      Do not forcibly insert the service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting a service wire.

    7. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

    8. Disconnect the service wire from connector C.
    9. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

  9. CHECK CONNECTION OF CONNECTORS 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.
    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    3. Check that the connectors are properly connected to the airbag sensor assembly, rear airbag sensor LH and side airbag sensor LH.

      OK

      The connectors are properly connected.

    Result: 

    NG

  10. CHECK CONNECTORS 
    1. Disconnect the connectors from the airbag sensor assembly, rear airbag sensor LH and side airbag sensor LH.
    2. Check that the connectors (on the airbag sensor assembly side, rear airbag sensor LH side and side airbag sensor LH side) are not damaged.

      OK

      The connectors are not deformed or damaged.

    1. Connect the connectors to the airbag sensor assembly and side airbag sensor LH.

    2. Interchange the rear airbag sensor LH with RH and connect the connectors to them.
    3. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    4. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    5. Clear the DTCs stored in memory (Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [08/2019 - ] ).
    6. Turn the ignition switch off.
    7. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    8. Check for DTCs (Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [08/2019 - ] ).
