Bleeding [12/2012 - ]: Procedure
- REMOVE COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER BRACKET LH
See step 1
- BLEED BRAKE LINE
- Remove the brake master cylinder reservoir filler cap assembly.
- Add brake fluid until the fluid level is between the MIN and MAX lines of the reservoir.
Brake fluid
SAE J1703 or FMVSS No. 116 DOT 3
NOTE:Do not remove the filter from the brake master cylinder reservoir and be sure to fill with new brake fluid to avoid any potential contamination of the brake system. Contamination, for example by dirt particles or mineral oil, could lead to functional brake problems.
- Remove the bleeder plug cap.
- Connect the vinyl tube to the bleeder plugs.
- Depress the brake pedal several times, and then loosen the bleeder plug with the pedal depressed.*1NOTE:
Add fluid as necessary so that the fluid in the reservoir does not decrease below the MIN level.
- When fluid stops coming out, tighten the bleeder plug, and then release the brake pedal.*2
- Repeat *1 and *2 until all the air in the brake fluid is completely bled out.
- Tighten the bleeder plug completely.
Torque: 8.3 N*m (85 kgf*cm, 73 in.*lbf)
- Install the bleeder plug cap.
- Repeat the above procedure for each wheel to bleed the brake line.
- Check for brake fluid leaks.
- Check the brake fluid level in the reservoir (Refer to ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION [12/2012 - ] ).
- BLEED BRAKE SYSTEM NOTE:
Be sure to clean your hands before bleeding from the master cylinder to avoid any potential contamination of the brake system. Contamination, for example by dirt particles or mineral oil, could lead to functional brake problems.
- Bleed brake master cylinder
HINT:
If the brake master cylinder has been disassembled or if the reservoir becomes empty, bleed air from the brake master cylinder.
- Remove the brake master cylinder reservoir filler cap assembly.
- Add brake fluid until the fluid level is between the MIN and MAX lines of the reservoir.

- Using a union nut wrench, disconnect the 2 brake lines from the master cylinder.
- Slowly depress and hold the brake pedal.
- Block the outer holes with your fingers, and release the pedal.
- Repeat the 2 previous steps 3 or 4 times.
- Using a union nut wrench, connect the 2 brake lines to the brake master cylinder.
Torque: 15.2 N*m (155 kgf*cm, 11 ft.*lbf)
NOTE:Use the formula to calculate special torque values for situations where a union nut wrench is combined with a torque wrench (Refer to PRECAUTION [12/2012 - ] ).
- Bleed brake line
- Remove the bleeder plug cap.
- Connect the vinyl tube to the bleeder plugs.
- Depress the brake pedal several times, and then loosen the bleeder plug with the pedal depressed.*1NOTE:
Add fluid as necessary so that the fluid in the reservoir does not decrease below the MIN level.
- When fluid stops coming out, tighten the bleeder plug, and then release the brake pedal.*2
- Repeat *1 and *2 until all the air in the brake fluid is completely bled out.
- Tighten the bleeder plug completely.
Torque: 8.3 N*m (85 kgf*cm, 73 in.*lbf)
- Install the bleeder plug cap.
- Repeat the above procedure for each wheel to bleed the brake line.
- Bleed VSC actuator assemblyNOTE:
After bleeding the air from the brake system, if the height or feel of the brake pedal cannot be obtained, perform air bleeding of the brake actuator with the Techstream by following the procedure below.
- Depress the brake pedal more than 20 times with the engine off.
- Connect the Techstream to the DLC3, and turn the ignition switch to ON.NOTE:
Do not start the engine.
- Enter the following menus: Chassis / ABS/VSC/TRAC /Utility / Air Bleeding.
- Select and run "Inhalation" from the Air Bleeding screen on the Techstream.NOTE:
Follow the prompts on the tester screen to bleed the air for both wheels (front and rear) on the right side.
- Loosen the bleeder plug of the right front wheel.*1
- Using the Techstream, operate the actuator.
HINT:
- To protect the actuator, the operation stops automatically.
- Make sure the brake pedal is released.
- Check the Techstream screen to confirm that the operation has stopped.
- Tighten the bleeder plug.*2
- Repeat the procedures above from *1 to *2 until the air is completely bled out.
- Tighten the bleeder plug.
Torque: 8.3 N*m (85 kgf*cm, 73 in.*lbf)
- Bleed the air for the right rear wheel using the same procedure as for the right front wheel.
- Select and run "Decrease" from the Air Bleeding screen on the Techstream.NOTE:
Follow the prompts on the tester screen to bleed the air for all 4 wheels.
- Loosen the bleeder plug of the right front wheel.*3
- Using the Techstream, operate the actuator and at the same time fully depress and hold the brake pedal.
HINT:
To protect the solenoids, the actuator operation stops automatically in 4 seconds. When operating the actuator repeatedly, follow the prompts on the tester screen and wait for 20 seconds or more between each operation.
NOTE:- At this time, the brake pedal becomes difficult to depress. However, be sure to hold the brake pedal in the fully depressed position until brake fluid comes out of the bleeder plug.
- Do not repeatedly depress the brake pedal; hold the brake pedal in the fully depressed position.
- Tighten the bleeder plug and release the brake pedal.*4
- Repeat the procedures above from *3 to *4 until the air is completely bled out.
- Tighten the bleeder plug.
Torque: 8.3 N*m (85 kgf*cm, 73 in.*lbf)
- Bleed the air for the other 3 wheels using the same procedure as for the right front wheel.
- Repeat the procedure in which air is bled from the brake line by repeatedly depressing the brake pedal.NOTE:
Repeat this step for each wheel until air is completely bled out.
- Check for brake fluid leaks.
- Check the fluid level in the reservoir (Refer to ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION [12/2012 - ] ).
