Installation [12/2012 - ]: Procedure

1. Align the matchmarks of the rear disc and axle hub and install the rear disc.

   HINT: 

   When replacing the disc with a new one, select the installation position where the disc has the smallest runout.

See step  5

1. Temporarily install the hub nuts.
2. Remove the shoe adjusting hole plug, and then turn the adjuster to expand the shoe adjuster until the disc locks.

3. Turn the shoe adjuster so that it contracts to a point where the disc rotates smoothly.

   Standard

   8 notches

4. Check that the shoe has no brake drag.

1. Apply a light coat of lithium soap base glycol grease to the entire circumference of a new rear disc brake bush dust boot where it contacts the rear disc brake cylinder mounting, and the entire inner circumference of both of its ends.

   *1	Lithium soap base glycol grease

   HINT: 

   Apply at least 0.3 g (0.01 oz.) of lithium soap base glycol grease to the rear disc brake bush dust boot.

   NOTE:

   Apply a sufficient amount of lithium soap base glycol grease to the entire circumference of the rear disc brake bush dust boot and rear disc brake cylinder mounting contact surfaces.

2. Install the 2 rear disc brake bush dust boots to the rear disc brake cylinder mounting.

1. Apply a light coat of lithium soap base glycol grease to a new rear disc brake rear cylinder slide pin where it contacts the rear disc brake cylinder slide bush.

2. Install the rear disc brake cylinder slide bush to the rear disc brake rear cylinder slide pin.

1. Apply a light coat of lithium soap base glycol grease to the sliding part and the seal surface of the 2 rear disc brake cylinder slide pins.

   *2	Rear Disc Brake Rear Cylinder Slide Pin
   *3	Lithium soap base glycol grease

2. Install the rear No. 1 disc brake cylinder slide pin and rear disc brake rear cylinder slide pin to the rear disc brake cylinder mounting.

1. Install the rear disc brake cylinder mounting with the 2 bolts.

   Torque: 88 N*m (897 kgf*cm, 65 ft.*lbf) 

1. Install the 2 pad support plates to the disc brake cylinder mounting.

1. Install the 2 indicator plates to the lower side of each pad.

1. Install the No. 1 and No. 2 anti-squeal shims to the rear disc brake pads.

   *2	No. 2 anti-squeal shim

   NOTE:

   • When replacing a worn pad, the shims must be replaced together with the pads.
   • Install the shims in the correct positions and direction as shown in the illustration.

1. Install the 2 disc brake pads to the rear disc brake cylinder mounting.
   NOTE:

   Make sure there is no oil or grease on the friction surface of the pads and disc.

1. Hold the rear disc brake cylinder slide pins and install the rear disc brake cylinder assembly to the disc brake cylinder mounting with the 2 bolts.

   *a	Hold
   *b	Turn

   Torque: 26.5 N*m (270 kgf*cm, 20 ft.*lbf) 

1. Install a new gasket and connect the flexible hose with a new union bolt.

   Torque: 39.2 N*m (400 kgf*cm, 29 ft.*lbf) 

   HINT: 

   Install the flexible hose lock securely in the lock hole in the cylinder.
