Daytime Running Light Relay Circuit [08/2015 - ]: Procedure

  1. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Main Body / Active Test.
    5. Check that the daytime running lights operate.
      MAIN BODY

      • Daytime running light and accessory light*2
      ON/OFF -
      • *1: for Halogen Headlight
      • *2: for LED Headlight (w/o Side Turn Signal Light)
      • *3: for LED Headlight (w/ Side Turn Signal Light)

      OK

      Daytime running lights illuminate.

      Result

      NG (for Halogen Headlight) B
      NG (for LED Headlight) C

    B → Refer to   2 

    C → Refer to   7 

    A → Refer to   11 

  2. CHECK OPERATION (HIGH BEAM HEADLIGHTS) 
    1. Check the operation of the high beam headlights.

      OK

      High beam headlights operate normally.

    NG → Refer to   10 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (H-LP HI MAIN FUSE - RUNNING LIGHT RELAY (DRL)) 
    1. Disconnect the running light relay (DRL) connector.
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      Relay Terminal 6 (+B) - Body ground Power switch off 11 to 14 V

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (RUNNING LIGHT RELAY (DRL) - INSTRUMENT PANEL JUNCTION BLOCK AND BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect the 2C instrument panel junction block assembly connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      Relay Terminal 2 (DRLS) - 2C-35 Always Below 1 Ω
      2C-35 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      Relay Terminal 4 (H) - 2C-22 Always Below 1 Ω
      2C-22 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      Relay Terminal 3 (E) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. INSPECT INSTRUMENT PANEL JUNCTION BLOCK ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the instrument panel junction block assembly. Refer to REMOVAL [08/2015 - ] .

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      2C-35 - MB-25 (DRL) Always Below 1 Ω
      2C-35 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      2C-22 - MB-22 (DIM) Always Below 1 Ω
      2C-22 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

      *a Component without harness connected
      (Instrument Panel Junction Block Assembly)

    NG → Refer to   13 

    OK: Go to next step 

  6. REPLACE RUNNING LIGHT RELAY (DRL) 
    1. Temporarily replace the running light relay (DRL) with a new or normally functioning one.
    2. Check that the daytime running lights operate normally.

      OK

      The daytime running lights operate normally.

    NG → Refer to   12 

    OK → END (RUNNING LIGHT RELAY (DRL) WAS DEFECTIVE) 

  7. CHECK OPERATION (LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS) 
    1. Check the operation of the low beam headlights.

      OK

      Low beam headlights operate normally.

    NG → Refer to   10 

    OK: Go to next step 

  8. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY - INSTRUMENT PANEL JUNCTION BLOCK) 
    1. Disconnect the 2C instrument panel junction block assembly connector.
    2. Disconnect the A79 headlight assembly LH connector.
    3. Disconnect the A81 headlight assembly RH connector.
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A79-4 (DRL) - 2C-35 Always Below 1 Ω
      A81-4 (DRL) - 2C-35 Always Below 1 Ω
      2C-35 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  9. INSPECT INSTRUMENT PANEL JUNCTION BLOCK ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the instrument panel junction block assembly. Refer to REMOVAL [08/2015 - ] .

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      2C-35 - MB-25 (DRL) Always Below 1 Ω
      2C-35 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → Refer to   13 

    OK → Refer to   12 

  10. GO TO PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE. Refer to  PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE [08/2015 - ] 
  11. PROCEED TO NEXT SUSPECTED AREA SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE. Refer to  PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE [08/2015 - ] 
  12. REPLACE MAIN BODY ECU (MULTIPLEX NETWORK BODY ECU). Refer to  REMOVAL [08/2015 - ] 
  13. REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL JUNCTION BLOCK ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [08/2015 - ]
