DTC C1380-64: Stop Light Control Relay Malfunction [06/2015 - ]: Procedure

  1. CHECK STOP LIGHT OPERATION 
    1. Check that all the stop lights come on when the brake pedal is depressed and go off when the brake pedal is released.

      OK

      Condition Illumination Condition
      Brake pedal depressed. On
      Brake pedal released. Off

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    INSPECT LIGHTING SYSTEM. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [06/2015 - 11/2018]  , or refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [11/2018 - ] 

    Result: 

    OK

  2. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Select the Data List on the Techstream.

      Refer to DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST [06/2015 - ]

      Chassis > ABS/VSC/TRAC > Data List

    4. Check that the stop light switch assembly condition observed on the Techstream changes according to brake pedal operation.

      OK

      The Techstream displays ON or OFF according to brake pedal operation.

  3. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (STOP LIGHT RELAY) 
    1. Select the Active Test on the Techstream.

      Refer to DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST [06/2015 - ]

      Chassis > ABS/VSC/TRAC > Active Test

    2. Perform the Active Test of the Stop light switch assembly using the Techstream.
    3. Select the Data List on the Techstream.

      Refer to DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST [06/2015 - ]

    4. Check for stop light control ECU assembly operation using the Data List and stop light operation by performing the Active Test.

      Result

      Data List content and stop light operation are normal. A
      Data List content and stop light operation are abnormal or Data List content is normal but stop lights do not turn on or off. B

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (STP2 TERMINAL) 
    1. Turn the power switch off.

      *a Front view of wire harness connector
      (to Skid Control ECU (Brake Booster with Master Cylinder Assembly))
    2. Make sure that there is no looseness at the locking part and the connecting part of the connector.
    3. Disconnect the A63 skid control ECU (brake booster with master cylinder assembly) connector.
    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A63-6 (STP2) - Body ground Stop light switch assembly on (Brake pedal depressed) 11 to 14 V
      A63-6 (STP2) - Body ground Stop light switch assembly off (Brake pedal released) Below 1.5 V

      Result

      Proceed to

      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (STP2 CIRCUIT) 

    Result: 

    OK

  5. RECONFIRM DTC 
    1. Reconnect the A63 skid control ECU (brake booster with master cylinder assembly) connector.
    2. Clear the DTCs.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [06/2015 - ]

      Chassis > ABS/VSC/TRAC > Clear DTCs 

    3. Turn the power switch on (READY).
    4. Perform a road test.
    5. Check if the same DTC is output.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [06/2015 - ]

      Chassis > ABS/VSC/TRAC > Trouble Codes 

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      DTC C1380/64 is not output. A
      DTC C1380/64 is output. B

    Result: 

    USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [06/2015 - 11/2018]  , or refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [11/2018 - ] 

    Result: 

    REPLACE BRAKE BOOSTER WITH MASTER CYLINDER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [06/2015 - 11/2018]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [11/2018 - ] 

  6. INSPECT STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Turn the power switch off.
    2. Check the stop light switch assembly.

      Refer to ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION [06/2015 - ]

      OK

      The stop light switch assembly is normal.

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [06/2015 - ]

    OK

  7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BRAKE BOOSTER WITH MASTER CYLINDER ASSEMBLY - STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Make sure that there is no looseness at the locking part and the connecting part of the connectors.
    2. Disconnect the A63 skid control ECU (brake booster with master cylinder assembly) connector.
    3. Disconnect the A17 stop light switch assembly connector.
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A63-3 (STPO) -A17-4 (ACC) Always Below 1 Ω
      A63-3 (STPO) or A17-4 (ACC) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE BRAKE BOOSTER WITH MASTER CYLINDER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [06/2015 - 11/2018]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [11/2018 - ] 

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

  8. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (STP TERMINAL) 
    1. Turn the power switch off.

      (to Skid Control ECU (Brake Booster with Master Cylinder Assembly))
    2. Make sure that there is no looseness at the locking part and the connecting part of the connector.
    3. Disconnect the A63 skid control ECU (brake booster with master cylinder assembly) connector.
    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A63-33 (STP) - Body ground Stop light switch assembly on (Brake pedal depressed) 11 to 14 V
      A63-33 (STP) - Body ground Stop light switch assembly off (Brake pedal released) Below 1.5 V

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE BRAKE BOOSTER WITH MASTER CYLINDER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [06/2015 - 11/2018]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [11/2018 - ]

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (STP CIRCUIT)
