DTC B1500: Fuel Sender Open Detected [12/2013 - 11/2016]: Procedure

  1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (FUEL INPUT) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Data List.
    5. Check the values by referring to the table below.

      Body Electrical > Combination Meter > Data List 

      Tester Display Measurement Item Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
      Fuel Input Fuel input Min.: 0 L, Max.: 172.5 L Fuel receiver gauge indicates F: 64.8 L
      Fuel receiver gauge indicates 3/4: 51.6 L
      Fuel receiver gauge indicates 1/2: 36.0 L
      Fuel receiver gauge indicates 1/4: 20.4 L
      Fuel receiver gauge indicates E: 7.2 L
      Unit: Liter

      Body Electrical > Combination Meter > Data List 

      Tester Display
      Fuel Input
      Result Proceed to
      Fuel level data can be displayed on the Techstream and DTC B1500 is output. A
      Fuel level data cannot be displayed on the Techstream. B

    Result: 

    REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [12/2013 - ]

  2. INSPECT FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the F22 combination meter assembly connector.

      *a Front view of wire harness connector
      (to Combination Meter Assembly)
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F22-14 (FR) - F22-15 (FE) Always 13.5 to 414.5 Ω

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [12/2013 - ] 

    Result: 

    NG

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY - FUEL SUCTION TUBE WITH PUMP AND GAUGE ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the F22 combination meter assembly connector.
    2. Disconnect the M9 fuel suction tube with pump and gauge assembly connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F22-14 (FR) - M9-2 (FS) Always Below 1 Ω
      F22-15 (FE) - M9-3 (FE) Always Below 1 Ω
      F22-14 (FR) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      F22-15 (FE) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    Result: 

    OK

  4. INSPECT FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the fuel sender gauge assembly.

      for 1AR-FE: Refer to REMOVAL [12/2013 - ]

      for 2GR-FE: Refer to REMOVAL [12/2013 - 11/2016]

    2. Inspect the fuel sender gauge assembly.

      for 1AR-FE: Refer to INSPECTION [12/2013 - ]

      for 2GR-FE: Refer to INSPECTION [12/2013 - 11/2016]

      OK

      Fuel sender gauge assembly is normal.

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY 

    for 1AR-FE: Refer to REMOVAL [12/2013 - ]

    for 2GR-FE: Refer to REMOVAL [12/2013 - 11/2016]

    Result: 

    OK

  5. INSPECT FUEL SUCTION TUBE WITH PUMP AND GAUGE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A-2 (FS) - B-2 Always Below 1 Ω
      A-3 (FE) - B-1 Always Below 1 Ω

      *a Component without harness connected
      (Fuel Suction Tube with Pump and Gauge Assembly)

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [12/2013 - ] 

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE FUEL SUCTION TUBE WITH PUMP AND GAUGE ASSEMBLY 

    for 1AR-FE: Refer to REMOVAL [12/2013 - ]

    for 2GR-FE: Refer to REMOVAL [12/2013 - 11/2016]
