Speed Signal Circuit [12/2013 - 11/2015]: Procedure

  1. INSPECT ECU TERMINAL VOLTAGE (INPUT VOLTAGE) 
    1. Disconnect the F22 combination meter assembly connector.

      (to Combination Meter Assembly)
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F22-3 (+S) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 4.5 to 14 V

      HINT: 

      If any of the ECUs specified in the wiring diagram supplies power to the combination meter assembly, the combination meter assembly will output a waveform.

    Result: 

    NG

  2. INSPECT COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY (OUTPUT VOLTAGE) 
    1. Disconnect the A47 brake actuator assembly (skid control ECU) connector.

      (to Brake Actuator Assembly (Skid Control ECU))
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A47-11 (SP1) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V

    Result: 

    NG

  3. INSPECT SKID CONTROL ECU ASSEMBLY (INPUT WAVEFORM) 
    1. Check the input waveform.

      *a Component with harness connected
      (Combination Meter Assembly)
      1. Remove the combination meter assembly with the connector(s) still connected.
      2. Connect an oscilloscope to terminal F22-4 (SI) and body ground.
      3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
      4. Turn a wheel slowly.
      5. Check the signal waveform according to the condition(s) in the table below.
        Item Condition
        Tool setting 5 V/DIV., 20 ms./DIV.
        Vehicle condition Ignition switch ON, wheel being rotated

        OK

        The waveform is similar to that shown in the illustration.

        HINT: 

        When the system is functioning normally, one wheel revolution generates 4 pulses. As the vehicle speed increases, the width indicated by (A) in the illustration narrows.

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [12/2013 - ] 

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY (SKID CONTROL ECU ASSEMBLY). Refer to  REMOVAL [12/2013 - 11/2016] 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY - BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY (SKID CONTROL ECU)) 
    1. Disconnect the F22 combination meter assembly connector.
    2. Disconnect the A47 brake actuator assembly (skid control ECU assembly) connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F22-4 (SI) - A47-11 (SP1) Always Below 1 Ω
      F22-4 (SI) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [12/2013 - ] 

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY - NO. 4 JUNCTION CONNECTOR) 
    1. Disconnect the F22 combination meter assembly connector.
    2. Disconnect the F95 No. 4 junction connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F22-3 (+S) - F95-22 Always Below 1 Ω
      F22-3 (+S) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    Result: 

    OK

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (NO. 4 JUNCTION CONNECTOR) 
    1. Inspect for a short in the wire harness and connectors connected to the No. 4 junction connector shown in the wiring diagram.

      HINT: 

      If voltage is not present, it is possible that an ECU or circuit has a malfunction. The malfunctioning ECU or circuit will be diagnosed in the following steps.

    2. Disconnect the F94 No. 4 junction connector.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F94-12 - Body ground Ignition switch ON 4.5 to 14 V
      F94-13 - Body ground*1 Ignition switch ON 4.5 to 14 V
      F94-14 - Body ground*2 Ignition switch ON 4.5 to 14 V
      F95-20 - Body ground*3 Ignition switch ON 4.5 to 14 V
      F95-21 - Body ground Ignition switch ON 4.5 to 14 V
      • *1: for 12 Speakers

        *2: w/ Manual (SOS) Switch

        *3: w/ Smart Key System

      Result Proceed to
      Voltage is not present in one circuit. A
      Voltage is present in all of the circuits. B

  7. SYSTEM CHECK 
    1. Select the circuit for which voltage was not present in step 6.

  8. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (RADIO AND DISPLAY RECEIVER ASSEMBLY OR NAVIGATION RECEIVER ASSEMBLY - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect the F71 radio and display receiver assembly*1 or F116 navigation receiver assembly*2 connector.
      • *1: for Radio and Display Type

        *2: for Navigation Receiver Type

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F71-17 (SPD) - Body ground*1 Always 10 kΩ or higher
      F116-17 (SPD) - Body*2 Always 10 kΩ or higher
      • *1: for Radio and Display Type

        *2: for Navigation Receiver Type

    Result: 

    REPLACE RADIO AND DISPLAY RECEIVER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 9

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

  9. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (STEREO COMPONENT AMPLIFIER ASSEMBLY - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect the F76 stereo component amplifier assembly connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F76-11 (SPD) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE STEREO COMPONENT AMPLIFIER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [12/2013 - 11/2016] 

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

  10. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (DCM (TELEMATICS TRANSCEIVER) - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect the F35 DCM (telematics transceiver) connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F35-10 (SPDP) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE DCM (TELEMATICS TRANSCEIVER). Refer to  REMOVAL [12/2013 - 11/2016] 

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

  11. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (CERTIFICATION ECU (SMART KEY ECU ASSEMBLY) - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect the F13 certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F13-5 (SPD) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE CERTIFICATION ECU (SMART KEY ECU ASSEMBLY). Refer to  REMOVAL [12/2013 - ] 

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

  12. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (NO. 4 JUNCTION CONNECTOR - NO. 1 JUNCTION CONNECTOR) 
    1. Disconnect the F95 No. 4 junction connector.
    2. Disconnect the A70 No. 1 junction connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F95-21 - A70-10 Always Below 1 Ω
      F95-21 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    Result: 

    OK

  13. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (NO. 1 JUNCTION CONNECTOR) 
    1. Inspect for a short in the wire harness and connectors connected to the No. 1 junction connector shown in the wiring diagram.

      HINT: 

      If voltage is not present, it is possible that an ECU or circuit has a malfunction. The malfunctioning ECU or circuit will be diagnosed in the following steps.

    2. Disconnect the A71 No. 1 junction connector.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A71-8 - Body ground Ignition switch ON 4.5 to 14 V
      A71-9 - Body ground*1 Ignition switch ON 4.5 to 14 V
      • *1: for 2GR-FE
      Result Proceed to

  15. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect the A43 ECM connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      A43-57 - Body ground*1 Always 10 kΩ or higher
      A43-10 - Body ground*2 Always 10 kΩ or higher
      • *1: for 1AR-FE

        *2: for 2GR-FE

    Result:

  16. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (TCM - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect the C3 TCM connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C3-3 (SPD) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE TCM
