DTC C1436: Yaw Rate Sensor Malfunction [08/2015 - ]: Procedure

  1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (YAW RATE AND ACCELERATION SENSOR)
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Select the Data List using the Techstream. Refer to DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST [08/2015 - ] .
      ABS/VSC/TRAC

Tester Display Measurement Item/Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
      Yaw Rate Sensor Yaw rate sensor / Min.: -128 degrees/s, Max.: 127 degrees/s Vehicle stopped: 0 degrees/s
      Turning right: -128 to 0 degrees/s
      Turning left: 0 to 127 degrees/s
      -
    4. Check that the yaw rate and acceleration sensor (airbag sensor assembly) output value displayed on the Techstream.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
NG (The yaw rate and acceleration sensor (airbag sensor assembly) output value is 0 degrees/s when the vehicle is stationary, but the value fluctuates when turning.) A
NG (The yaw rate and acceleration sensor (airbag sensor assembly) output value is not 0 degrees/s when the vehicle is stationary.) B
      OK C

      HINT:

If troubleshooting has been carried out according to Problem Symptoms Table, refer back to the table and proceed to the next step before replacing parts. Refer to PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE [08/2015 - ] .

    B → See step   4

    C → See step   6

    A: Go to next step

  2. CHECK STEERING ANGLE SENSOR ZERO POINT CALIBRATION
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.
    2. Drive the vehicle straight ahead at 50 km/h (31 mph) or more for at least 30 seconds.
    3. Check that the steering wheel is correctly centered while driving straight ahead.

      HINT:

If front wheel alignment and steering are adjusted as a result of an off-center steering wheel, acquire the yaw rate and acceleration sensor zero point again after the adjustments are completed.

      OK

The steering wheel is correctly centered.

    NG → See step   7

    OK: Go to next step

  3. CHECK AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY INSTALLATION
    1. Check that the yaw rate and acceleration sensor (airbag sensor assembly) has been installed properly. Refer to INSTALLATION [08/2015 - ] .

      OK

The sensor should be tightened to the specified torque.

The sensor should not be installed in a tilted position.

      HINT:

If troubleshooting has been carried out according to Problem Symptoms Table, refer back to the table and proceed to the next step before replacing parts. Refer to PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE [08/2015 - ] .

    NG → See step   5

    OK → See step   4

  4. REPLACE AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [08/2015 - ]
  5. INSTALL AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY CORRECTLY. Refer to  INSTALLATION [08/2015 - ]
  6. CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [08/2015 - ]
  7. ADJUST FRONT WHEEL ALIGNMENT OR STEERING. Refer to  ADJUSTMENT [08/2015 - ]
