Power Steering ECU Communication Stop Mode [08/2015 - ]: Procedure

  1. CHECK FOR VEHICLE TYPE 
    1. Check for vehicle type.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      for 2GR-FE A
      for 2AR-FE B

    B → See step   4 

    A: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK FOR OPEN IN CAN BUS LINES (POWER STEERING ECU ASSEMBLY BRANCH LINE) 
    1. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
    2. Disconnect the j3 power steering ECU assembly connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      j3-4 (CANH) - j3-8 (CANL) Cable disconnected from negative (-) battery terminal 54 to 69 Ω
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *a Front view of wire harness connector
      (to Power Steering ECU Assembly)

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE CAN BRANCH LINES OR CONNECTOR (POWER STEERING ECU ASSEMBLY) 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (POWER SOURCE CIRCUIT) 
    1. Disconnect the j2 power steering ECU assembly connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      j2-2 (PGND) - Body ground Cable disconnected from negative (-) battery terminal Below 1 Ω
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      (to Power Steering ECU Assembly)
    3. Reconnect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.
    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      j3-1 (IG) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *a Front view of wire harness connector
      (to Power Steering ECU Assembly)

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (POWER SOURCE CIRCUIT) 

    OK → See step   6 

  4. CHECK FOR OPEN IN CAN BUS LINES (POWER STEERING ECU WITH MOTOR ASSEMBLY BRANCH LINE) 
    1. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
    2. Disconnect the j1 power steering ECU with motor assembly connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      j1-7 (CANH) - j1-8 (CANL) Cable disconnected from negative (-) battery terminal 54 to 69 Ω
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *a Front view of wire harness connector
      (to Power Steering ECU with motor Assembly)

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE CAN BRANCH LINES OR CONNECTOR (POWER STEERING ECU WITH MOTOR ASSEMBLY) 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (POWER SOURCE CIRCUIT) 
    1. Disconnect the j2 power steering ECU with motor assembly connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      j2-2 (PGND) - Body ground Cable disconnected from negative (-) battery terminal Below 1 Ω

      (to Power Steering ECU with Motor Assembly)
    3. Reconnect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.
    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      j1-1 (IG) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      (to Power Steering ECU with Motor Assembly)

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (POWER SOURCE CIRCUIT) 

    OK → See step   7 

  6. REPLACE POWER STEERING ECU ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [08/2015 - ] 
  7. REPLACE POWER STEERING ECU WITH MOTOR ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [08/2015 - ]
