DTC C1380-7F: Stop Lamp Relay Actuator Stuck Off [08/2019 - ]: Procedure

  1. INSPECT TERMINAL VOLTAGE (SKID CONTROL ECU (BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY) CONNECTOR) 
    1. Make sure that there is no looseness at the locking part and the connecting part of the connector.

      (to Skid control ECU (Brake actuator assembly))

      OK

      The connector is securely connected.

    2. Disconnect the A58 skid control ECU (brake actuator assembly) connector.
    3. Check both the connector case and the terminals for deformation and corrosion.

      OK

      No deformation or corrosion.

    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A58-26 (STPO) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V
      A58-35 (STP) - Body ground Brake pedal depressed 11 to 14 V
      Brake pedal released Below 1.5 V

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      All terminal voltage is normal A
      Only STPO terminal voltage abnormal B
      Only STP terminal voltage abnormal C
      STPO terminal and STP2 terminal voltage abnormal D

  2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (STOP LAMP RELAY) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Enter the following menus: Chassis / Brake / Active Test.
      CHASSIS > BRAKE > ACTIVE TEST

      Tester Display Measurement Item Control Range Restrict Condition Diagnostic Note
      Stop Lamp Relay Stop light control relay (stop light switch assembly) (STPO terminal output) OFF / ON Vehicle condition: Vehicle stopped
      HINT: 
      To protect this Actuator and Solenoid, this test will only last 10 seconds.
      Check that the stop light control relay (stop light control ECU assembly) (STPO terminal output) turns ON when the brake pedal is released, the stop lights blink, and the "stop light relay" and "STPO" Data List items switch to ON.
    4. According to the display on the Techstream, perform the Active Test and check the operation of the stop lights.

      OK

      Stop lights turn on in accordance with the Active Test.

      Result

      When Active Test performed, stop lights turn on and off A
      When Active Test performed, but stop lights do not turn on B

  3. RECONFIRM DTC 
    1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    2. Clear the DTCs.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [08/2019 - ]

    3. Enter the following menus: Chassis / Brake / Active Test.

      Stop Lamp Relay Stop light control relay (stop light switch assembly) (STPO terminal output) OFF / ON Vehicle condition: Vehicle stopped
      HINT: 
      To protect this Actuator and Solenoid, this test will only last 10 seconds.
      Check that the stop light control relay (stop light switch assembly) (STPO terminal output) turns ON when the brake pedal is released, the stop lights blink, and the "stop light relay" and "STPO" Data List items switch to ON.
    4. Check if the same DTC is output.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [08/2019 - ]

      Result

      DTC C1380-7F is not output. A
      DTC C1380-7F is output. B

    Result:

    USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [08/2019 - ]

    REPLACE BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [08/2019 - ] 

  4. INSPECT STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.
    2. Check the stop light switch assembly.

      Refer to ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION [08/2019 - ]

      OK

      The stop light switch assembly is normal.

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [08/2019 - ] 

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [08/2015 - ] 

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY - STOP LIGHT CONTROL ECU ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Make sure that there is no looseness at the locking part and the connecting part of the connectors.
    2. Disconnect the A58 skid control ECU (brake actuator assembly) connector.
    3. Disconnect the A69 stop light switch assembly connector.
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A53-26 (STPO) -A47-4 (ACC) Always Below 1 Ω

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [08/2015 - ] 

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY - STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Make sure that there is no looseness at the locking part and the connecting part of the connectors.
    2. Disconnect the A58 skid control ECU (brake actuator assembly) connector.
    3. Disconnect the A69 stop light switch assembly connector.
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A69-3 (L) - A58-5 (STP2) Always Below 1 Ω

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result:

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

  7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY - REAR COMBINATION LIGHT ASSEMBLY LH) 
    1. Disconnect the A58 skid control ECU (brake actuator assembly) connector.

    2. Disconnect the O12 rear combination light assembly LH connector.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      A58-35 (STP) - Body ground Brake pedal depressed 8 to 14 V
      Brake pedal released Below 1.5 V

  8. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY - REAR COMBINATION LIGHT ASSEMBLY RH) 
    1. Disconnect the A58 skid control ECU (brake actuator assembly) connector.

    2. Disconnect the O12 rear combination light assembly LH connector.
    3. Disconnect the O13 rear combination light assembly RH connector.
    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      A58-35 (STP) - Body ground Brake pedal depressed 8 to 14 V
      Brake pedal released Below 1.5 V

  9. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY - CENTER STOP LIGHT ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the A58 skid control ECU (brake actuator assembly) connector.

    2. Disconnect the O12 rear combination light assembly LH connector.
    3. Disconnect the O13 rear combination light assembly RH connector.
    4. Disconnect the X1 center stop light assembly connector.
    5. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A58-35 (STP) - Body ground Brake pedal depressed 8 to 14 V
      Brake pedal released Below 1.5 V

    REPLACE CENTER STOP LIGHT ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [08/2015 - ]

  10. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (STOP LIGHT CONTROL ECU ASSEMBLY POWER SOURCE TERMINAL) 
    1. Make sure that there is no looseness at the locking part and the connecting part of the connectors.

    2. Disconnect the A69 stop light switch assembly connector.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      A69-7 (B) -Body ground Always 11 to 14 V
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A69-2 (GND) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω

    REPLACE STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [08/2015 - ]

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
