DTC B1633-81: Rear Airbag Sensor Assembly RH Initialization Incomplete; DTC B1638-82: Rear Airbag Sensor Assembly LH Initialization Incomplete [12/2012 - ]: Procedure

  1. CHECK PAST DTC 
    1. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    2. Check for DTCs.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [12/2012 - ] .

      Body Electrical > SRS Airbag > Trouble Codes 

      Result Proceed to
      DTC B1632/81 and B1637/82 are not output
      DTC B1632/81 and B1637/82 are output

    Result: 

    DTC B1632/81 and B1637/82 are output 

    GO TO DTC B1632/81. Refer to  DTC B1630/23: Rear Airbag Sensor RH Circuit Malfunction; DTC B1632/81: Lost Communication with Rear Airbag Sensor RH; DTC B1635/24: Rear Airbag Sensor LH Circuit Malfunction; DTC B1637/82: Lost Communication with Rear Airbag Sensor LH [12/2012 - ]  . 

    Result: 

    DTC B1632/81 and B1637/82 are not output

  2. CHECK DTC 
    1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

      HINT: 

      If a communication error occurs, DTCs for both the LH and RH sides will be stored simultaneously. The malfunctioning area can be identified by turning the ignition switch off and then to ON again.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    3. Check for DTCs.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [12/2012 - ] .

      Body Electrical > SRS Airbag > Trouble Codes 

      Result Proceed to
      DTC B1633/81 is output
      DTC B1638/82 is output
      DTC B1633/81 and B1638/82 are not output

      HINT: 

      Codes other than DTC B1633/81 and B1638/82 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

    Result: 

    DTC B1638/82 is output

    Result: 

    DTC B1633/81 and B1638/82 are not output 

    USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK. Refer to  DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM [12/2012 - ]  .

    DTC B1633/81 is output

  3. CHECK CONNECTION OF CONNECTORS 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.
    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    3. Check that the connectors are properly connected to the airbag sensor assembly and rear airbag sensor RH.
      Result Proceed to
      The connectors are properly connected
      The connectors are not properly connected

    Result: 

    The connectors are not properly connected 

    CONNECT CONNECTORS PROPERLY 

    Result: 

    The connectors are properly connected

  4. CHECK CONNECTORS 
    1. Disconnect the connectors from the airbag sensor assembly and rear airbag sensor RH.
    2. Check that the connectors (on the airbag sensor assembly side and rear airbag sensor RH side) are not damaged.

      *1 Rear Airbag Sensor RH
      *2 Airbag Sensor Assembly
      *3 Floor Wire
      Result Proceed to
      The connectors are not deformed or damaged

    REPLACE FLOOR WIRE

  5. CHECK REAR AIRBAG SENSOR RH CIRCUIT 
    1. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

      *1 Rear Airbag Sensor RH *2 Airbag Sensor Assembly
      *3 No. 2 Floor Wire *4 Connector C
      *5 Connector B *6 Service Wire

      *b Rear view of wire harness connector
      (to Airbag Sensor Assembly)
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      M7-4 (BCR+) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V
      M7-3 (BCR-) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V
    4. Turn the ignition switch off.
    5. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    6. Using a service wire, connect terminals 24 (BBR+) and 23 (BBR-) of connector B.
      NOTE:

      Do not forcibly insert the service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting a service wire.

    7. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      M7-4 (BCR+) - M7-3 (BCR-) Always Below 1 Ω
    8. Disconnect the service wire from connector B.
    9. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      M7-4 (BCR+) - M7-3 (BCR-) Always 1 MΩ or higher
      M7-4 (BCR+) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher
      M7-3 (BCR-) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher
      Result Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE FLOOR WIRE 

    Result: 

    OK

  6. CHECK REAR AIRBAG SENSOR RH 
    1. Connect the connector to the airbag sensor assembly.

      *1 Rear Airbag Sensor LH
      *2 Airbag Sensor Assembly
    2. Interchange the rear airbag sensor RH with LH and connect the connectors to them.
    3. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    4. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    5. Clear the DTCs stored in memory.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [12/2012 - ] .

      Body Electrical > SRS Airbag > Clear DTCs 

    6. Turn the ignition switch off.
    7. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    8. Check for DTCs.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [12/2012 - ] .

      Body Electrical > SRS Airbag > Trouble Codes 

      Result Proceed to
      DTC B1638/82 is output
      DTC B1633/81 is output
      DTC B1633/81 and B1638/82 are not output

      HINT: 

      Codes other than DTC B1633/81 and B1638/82 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

    9. Turn the ignition switch off.
    10. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    11. Return the rear airbag sensor LH and RH to their original positions and connect the connectors to them.

    Result: 

    DTC B1638/82 is output 

    REPLACE REAR AIRBAG SENSOR RH. Refer to  REMOVAL [12/2012 - 10/2015]  or  REMOVAL [10/2015 - ]  . 

    Result: 

    DTC B1633/81 is output 

    REPLACE AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [12/2012 - ]  . 

    Result: 

    DTC B1633/81 and B1638/82 are not output 

    USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK. Refer to  DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM [12/2012 - ]  . 

  7. CHECK CONNECTION OF CONNECTORS 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.
    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    3. Check that the connectors are properly connected to the airbag sensor assembly and rear airbag sensor LH.
      Result Proceed to
      The connectors are properly connected
      The connectors are not properly connected

    Result: 

    The connectors are not properly connected 

    CONNECT CONNECTORS PROPERLY 

    Result: 

    The connectors are properly connected

  8. CHECK CONNECTORS 
    1. Disconnect the connectors from the airbag sensor assembly and rear airbag sensor LH.
    2. Check that the connectors (on the airbag sensor assembly side and rear airbag sensor LH side) are not damaged.

      *1 Rear Airbag Sensor LH
      *2 Airbag Sensor Assembly
      *3 No. 2 Floor Wire
      Result Proceed to
      The connectors are not deformed or damaged

    REPLACE NO. 2 FLOOR WIRE 

    Result: 

    The connectors are not deformed or damaged

  9. CHECK REAR AIRBAG SENSOR LH CIRCUIT 
    1. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

      *1 Rear Airbag Sensor LH *2 Airbag Sensor Assembly
      *3 No. 2 Floor Wire *4 Connector C
      *5 Connector B *6 Service Wire

      (to Airbag Sensor Assembly)
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      N9-4 (BCL+) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V
      N9-3 (BCL-) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V
    4. Turn the ignition switch off.
    5. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    6. Using a service wire, connect terminals 17 (BBL+) and 18 (BBL-) of connector B.
      NOTE:

      Do not forcibly insert the service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting a service wire.

    7. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      N9-4 (BCL+) - N9-3 (BCL-) Always Below 1 Ω
    8. Disconnect the service wire from connector B.
    9. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      N9-4 (BCL+) - N9-3 (BCL-) Always 1 MΩ or higher
      N9-4 (BCL+) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher
      N9-3 (BCL-) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher
      Result Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE NO. 2 FLOOR WIRE 

    Result: 

    OK

  10. CHECK REAR AIRBAG SENSOR LH 
    1. Connect the connector to the airbag sensor assembly.

      *1 Rear Airbag Sensor RH
      *2 Airbag Sensor Assembly
    2. Interchange the rear airbag sensor LH with RH and connect the connectors to them.
    3. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    4. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    5. Clear the DTCs stored in memory.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [12/2012 - ] .

      Body Electrical > SRS Airbag > Clear DTCs 

    6. Turn the ignition switch off.
    7. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    8. Check for DTCs.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [12/2012 - ] .

      Body Electrical > SRS Airbag > Trouble Codes 

      Result Proceed to
      DTC B1633/81 is output
      DTC B1638/82 is output
      DTC B1633/81 and B1638/82 are not output

      HINT: 

      Codes other than DTC B1633/81 and B1638/82 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

    9. Turn the ignition switch off.
    10. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    11. Return the rear airbag sensor RH and LH to their original positions and connect the connectors to them.

    Result: 

    DTC B1633/81 is output 

    REPLACE REAR AIRBAG SENSOR LH. Refer to  REMOVAL [12/2012 - 10/2015]  or  REMOVAL [10/2015 - ]  . 

    Result: 

    DTC B1638/82 is output 

    REPLACE AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [12/2012 - ]  . 

    Result: 

    DTC B1633/81 and B1638/82 are not output 

    USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK. Refer to  DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM [12/2012 - ]  .
