DTC P314A-828: Inverter Coolant Pump Speed Signal [08/2015 - ]: Procedure

  1. CLEAR DTC. Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 4 

    NEXT: Go to next step 

  2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (ACTIVATE THE WATER PUMP) 
    NOTE:

    Be sure to perform the inspection with the auxiliary battery voltage at 11 V or more.

    HINT: 

    When the auxiliary battery voltage is low, the inverter water pump assembly may not operate.

    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Active Test / Activate the Water Pump.
    4. Perform the Activate the Water Pump Active Test.
    5. Touch the inverter water pump assembly and check that it is operating (vibrating).

      OK

      The inverter water pump is operating (vibrating).

    6. Turn the power switch off.

    NG → Refer to   9 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR). Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 3 

    NG → CONNECT SECURELY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (INVERTER WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY CONNECTOR). Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 8 

    NG → CONNECT SECURELY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU - INVERTER WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect connector A21 from the power management control ECU.
    2. Disconnect connector g1 from the inverter water pump assembly.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      (to Inverter Water Pump Assembly)

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      g1-2 (NWP) - A21-14 (NIWP) Power switch off Below 1 Ω
      g1-2 (NWP) or A21-14 (NIWP) -Body ground and other terminals Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
    4. Connect the power management control ECU connector.
    5. Connect the inverter water pump assembly connector.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  6. CHECK POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU 
    1. Disconnect connector g1 from the inverter water pump assembly.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      A21-14 (NIWP) - L5-6 (E1) Power switch on (IG) 11 to 14 V

      (Power Management Control ECU)
    4. Turn the power switch off.
    5. Connect the inverter water pump assembly connector.

    NG → Refer to   27 

    OK: Go to next step 

  7. CLEAR DTC. Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 4 

    NEXT: Go to next step 

  8. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (ACTIVATE THE WATER PUMP) 
    NOTE:

    Be sure to perform the inspection with the auxiliary battery voltage at 11 V or more.

    HINT: 

    When the auxiliary battery voltage is low, the inverter water pump assembly may not operate.

    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Active Test / Activate the Water Pump.
    4. Perform the "Activate the Water Pump" Active Test.
    5. Connect an oscilloscope between the power management control ECU terminals specified in the table below, and measure the waveform.

      Equipment Setting 5 V/DIV., 100 ms./DIV.

      OK

      The duration of wavelength A is 300 msec or less.

    6. Turn the power switch off.

    NG → Refer to   26

  9. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (INVERTER WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY CONNECTOR). Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 8 

    NG → Refer to   12 

    OK: Go to next step 

  10. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (INVERTER WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY - IGCT RELAY) 
    1. Remove the IGCT relay from the engine room relay block and junction block assembly.
    2. Disconnect connector g1 from the inverter water pump assembly.
    3. While slightly shaking the wire harness, connector and engine room relay block and junction block assembly, measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      HINT: 

      • Connectors

        Slightly shake the connector vertically and horizontally.

      • Wire Harness

        Slightly shake the wire harness vertically and horizontally.

        The connector joint and fulcrum of the vibration are the major areas that should be checked thoroughly.

      • Engine Room Relay Block and Junction Block Assembly

        Apply slight vibration with a finger to the engine room relay block and junction block assembly and check whether a malfunction occurs.

      NOTE:

      Do not apply excessive force when using the probes of the tester to perform the inspection. If excessive force is used, the terminals will be damaged.

    4. Install the IGCT relay.
    5. Connect the inverter water pump assembly connector.

    NG → Refer to   13 

    OK: Go to next step 

  11. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (INVERTER WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect connector g1 from the inverter water pump assembly.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      g1-1 (GND) - Body ground Power switch off Below 1 Ω

    3. Connect the inverter water pump assembly connector.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → Refer to   26 

  12. CHECK FUSE (IGCT NO. 3) 
    1. Remove the IGCT No. 3 fuse from the engine room relay block and junction block assembly.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      IGCT No. 3 fuse Always Below 1Ω

      *2 IGCT No. 3 Fuse
    3. Install the IGCT No. 3 fuse.

    NG → Refer to   23 

    OK → CONNECT SECURELY (INVERTER WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY CONNECTOR) 

  13. CHECK INSTALLATION CONDITION (IGCT NO. 3 FUSE) 
    1. Check installation condition of the IGCT No. 3 fuse.

      OK

      IGCT No. 3 fuse is installed correctly.

    NG → Refer to   16 

    OK: Go to next step 

  14. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (INVERTER WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY CIRCUIT) 
    1. Remove the IGCT No. 3 fuse from the engine room relay block and junction block assembly.
    2. Remove the IGCT relay from the engine room relay block and junction block assembly.
    3. Disconnect connector g1 from the inverter water pump assembly.
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      NOTE:

      Do not apply excessive force when using the probes of the tester to perform the inspection. If excessive force is used, the terminals will be damaged.

    5. Install the IGCT No. 3 fuse.
    6. Install the IGCT relay.
    7. Connect the inverter water pump assembly connector.

    NG → Refer to   18 

    OK: Go to next step 

  15. CHECK FUSE (IGCT NO. 3) 
    1. Remove the IGCT No. 3 fuse from the engine room relay block and junction block assembly.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      IGCT No. 3 fuse Always Below 1Ω

      *2 IGCT No. 3 Fuse
    3. Install the IGCT No. 3 fuse.

    NG → Refer to   19 

    OK → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (IGCT NO. 3 FUSE HOLDER TERMINAL) 

  16. CHECK FUSE HOLDER TERMINAL (IGCT NO. 3 FUSE) 
    1. Check the terminals of the IGCT No. 3 fuse holder.

      OK

      The terminals of the IGCT No. 3 fuse holder are not bent, loose or corroded.

    NG → Refer to   22 

    OK: Go to next step 

  17. CHECK FUSE (IGCT NO. 3) 
    1. Remove the IGCT No. 3 fuse from the engine room relay block and junction block assembly.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      IGCT No. 3 fuse Always Below 1Ω

      *2 IGCT No. 3 Fuse
    3. Install the IGCT No. 3 fuse.

    NG → REPLACE FUSE (IGCT NO. 3) 

    OK → CONNECT SECURELY (IGCT NO. 3 FUSE) 

  18. CHECK FUSE (IGCT NO. 3) 
    1. Remove the IGCT No. 3 fuse from the engine room relay block and junction block assembly.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      IGCT No. 3 fuse Always Below 1Ω

    3. Install the IGCT No. 3 fuse.

    OK → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

  19. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (INVERTER WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect connector g1 from the inverter water pump assembly.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

    3. Connect the inverter water pump assembly connector.

    NG → Refer to   24 

    OK: Go to next step 

  20. CHECK FUSE HOLDER TERMINAL (IGCT NO. 3 FUSE) 
    1. Check the terminals of the IGCT No. 3 fuse holder.

      OK

      The terminals of the IGCT No. 3 fuse holder are not bent, loose or corroded.

    NG → Refer to   25 

    OK: Go to next step 

  21. REPLACE INVERTER WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to COMPONENTS [08/2015 - ]

    NEXT → REPLACE FUSE (IGCT NO. 3) 

  22. CHECK FUSE (IGCT NO. 3) 
    1. Remove the IGCT No. 3 fuse from the engine room relay block and junction block assembly.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      IGCT No. 3 fuse Always Below 1Ω

    3. Install the IGCT No. 3 fuse.

  23. CONNECT SECURELY 
    1. Connect the inverter water pump assembly connector securely.

    NEXT → REPLACE FUSE (IGCT NO. 3) 

  24. REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    NEXT → REPLACE FUSE (IGCT NO. 3) 

  25. REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (IGCT NO. 3 FUSE HOLDER TERMINAL) 

    NEXT → REPLACE FUSE (IGCT NO. 3) 

  26. REPLACE INVERTER WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY. Refer to  COMPONENTS [08/2015 - ] 
  27. REPLACE POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU. Refer to  COMPONENTS [08/2015 - ]
