DTC P0A38-257: Generator Temperature Sensor Circuit Low; DTC P0A39-259: Generator Temperature Sensor Circuit High [08/2015 - ]: Procedure

  1. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR) Refer to   3 

    NG → CONNECT SECURELY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (MOTOR TEMP NO2) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / Motor Temp No2.
    4. Read the Data List.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      -40°C (-40°F) A
      215°C (419°F) B
      Same as actual temperature C
    5. Turn the power switch off.

    B → Refer to   5 

    C → Refer to   9 

    A: Go to next step 

  3. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (CHECK FOR OPEN) 
    1. Disconnect the generator temperature sensor connector.

    2. Connect terminals 8 (GMT) and 4 (GMTG) of vehicle side connector D7 of the generator temperature sensor.

    3. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    4. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / Motor Temp No2.
    6. Read the Data List.

      OK

      Tester Display Condition Specified Condition
      Motor Temp No2 Terminals GMT and GMTG connected.
      Power switch on (IG)
      215°C (419°F)

      *a Front view of wire harness connector
      (to Generator Temperature Sensor)

      HINT: 

      The generator temperature sensor is not available separately. If it requires replacement, replace the hybrid vehicle generator assembly.

    7. Turn the power switch off.
    8. Connect the generator temperature sensor connector.

    NG → Refer to   4 

    OK → Refer to   8 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU - GENERATOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR) 
    1. Connect terminals 26 (GMT) and 27 (GMTG) of connector A21 of the power management control ECU.

    2. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    3. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / Motor Temp No2.
    5. Read the Data List.

      OK

      Tester Display Condition Specified Condition
      Motor Temp No2 Terminals GMT and GMTG connected.
      Power switch on (IG)
      215°C (419°F)

      *a Component with harness connected
      (Power Management Control ECU)
    6. Turn the power switch off.

    NG → Refer to   7 

    OK → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

  5. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (CHECK FOR SHORT) 
    1. Disconnect the generator temperature sensor connector.

    2. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    3. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / Motor Temp No2.
    5. Read the Data List.

      OK

      Tester Display Condition Specified Condition
      Motor Temp No2 Power switch on (IG) -40°C (-40°F)

      HINT: 

      The generator temperature sensor is not available separately. If it requires replacement, replace the hybrid vehicle generator assembly.

    6. Turn the power switch off.

    NG → Refer to   6 

    OK → Refer to   8 

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU - GENERATOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR) 
    1. Disconnect the generator temperature sensor connector.
    2. Disconnect connector A21 from the power management control ECU.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      D7-8 (GMT) - A21-26 (GMT) Power switch off Below 1 Ω
      D7-4 (GMTG) - A21-27 (GMTG) Power switch off Below 1 Ω

      Standard Resistance (Check for Short)

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      D7-8 (GMT) or A21-26 (GMT) - Body ground and other terminals Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      D7-4 (GMTG) or A21-27 (GMTG) - Body ground and other terminals Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher

      *b Rear view of wire harness connector
      (to Power Management Control ECU)
    4. Connect the power management control ECU connector.
    5. Connect the generator temperature sensor connector.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → Refer to   7 

  7. REPLACE POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU. Refer to  COMPONENTS [08/2015 - ] 
  8. REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE GENERATOR ASSEMBLY. Refer to  COMPONENTS [08/2015 - ] 
  9. CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS. Refer to  CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS [08/2015 - ]
