DTC P272C-81: Park Pawl Motor Invalid Serial Data Received [06/2021 -]: Procedure

  1. CHECK DTC OUTPUT (HYBRID CONTROL) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.
    4. Check if DTCs are output.

      Powertrain > Hybrid Control > Trouble Codes 

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      None of the DTCs in the table below are output. A
      Any of the DTCs in the table below are output. B
      Relevant DTC
      P0606-47 Hybrid/EV Powertrain Control Module Processor Watchdog / Safety MCU Failure
      P060A-29 Hybrid/EV Powertrain Control Module Monitoring Processor Signal Invalid
      P060A-44 Hybrid/EV Powertrain Control Module Monitoring Processor Data Memory Failure
      P060A-45 Hybrid/EV Powertrain Control Module Monitoring Processor Program Memory Failure
      P060A-47 Hybrid/EV Powertrain Control Module Monitoring Processor Watchdog / Safety MCU Failure
      P060A-49 Hybrid/EV Powertrain Control Module Monitoring Processor Internal Electronic Failure
      P0688-1F ECM/PCM Power Relay Sense Circuit Intermittent
    5. Turn the power switch off.

    Result: 

    B 

    GO TO DTC CHART (HYBRID CONTROL SYSTEM). Refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [06/2021 -] 

    Result:

  2. CHECK FREEZE FRAME DATA (HYBRID CONTROL) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Release the brake pedal and turn the power switch on (IG).

      HINT: 

      Do not turn the power switch on (READY).

    3. Read the freeze frame data of DTC P272C-81.

      Powertrain > Hybrid Control > DTC (P272C-81) > Freeze Frame Data 

      Tester Display
      BATT Voltage for Transmission Control System

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      The value of BATT Voltage for Transmission Control System is 9 V or more A
      The value of BATT Voltage for Transmission Control System is less than 9 V B
    4. Turn the power switch off.

    Result: 

    B 

    REPLACE AUXILIARY BATTERY. Refer to  REMOVAL [07/2020 -] 

    Result: 

    A

  3. CLEAR DTC 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.
    4. Clear the DTCs.

      Powertrain > Hybrid Control > Clear DTCs 

    5. Disconnect the Techstream from the DLC3.
    6. Turn the power switch off.
    7. Leave the vehicle as is for 60 seconds or more.
      NOTE:
      • Do not connect the Techstream.
      • Do not depress brake pedal.
      • Do not open/close any of the doors.

  4. CHARGE AUXILIARY BATTERY 
    1. Charge the auxiliary battery.

      Result

  5. CHECK DTC OUTPUT (SIMULATION TEST) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Release the brake pedal and turn the power switch on (IG).

      HINT: 

      Do not turn the power switch on (READY).

    3. Depress the brake pedal and move the shift lever to select neutral (N).
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.
    5. Check if DTCs are output.

      Powertrain > Hybrid Control > Trouble Codes 

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      P272C-81 is output A
      P272C-81 is not output B
    6. Turn the power switch off.

    Result: 

    B 

    END (AUXILIARY BATTERY WAS INSUFFICIENTLY CHARGED) 

    Result: 

    A

  6. CHECK P POSITION SWITCH (INDICATOR LIGHT) 
    1. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    2. Depress the brake pedal and move the shift lever to N.
    3. Press the P position switch (transmission shift main switch) and check the status of the indicator light.

      Result

      Condition of Indicator Light Proceed to
      Other than below. A
      Indicator light flashes. B
    4. Turn the power switch off.

    Result: 

    A 

    REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU. Refer to  REMOVAL [07/2020 -]

  7. CHECK HYBRID VEHICLE TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Apply the parking brake.
    2. Disconnect the shift control actuator assembly connector.
    3. Remove the 3 shift control actuator bolts.

      Refer to COMPONENTS [11/2015 -]

    4. Slightly pull the shift control actuator assembly away from the hybrid vehicle transaxle.
    5. Wrap the shaft with a piece of cloth and check that it cannot be rotated in either direction by hand.

      NOTE:

      Do not use tools, such as pliers, to perform this step.
