      Standard compression pressure

      871 kPa (8.9 kgf/cm2 , 126 psi)

      Minimum pressure

      661 kPa (6.7 kgf/cm2 , 96 psi)

      Pressure difference between each cylinder

      100 kPa (1.0 kgf/cm2 , 15 psi)

      NOTE:
      • Inspect the other cylinders in the same way.
      • Measure the compression as quickly as possible.

      HINT:

If the cylinder compression is low, pour a small amount of engine oil into the cylinder through the spark plug hole, then inspect it again.

      • If adding oil increases the compression, the piston rings and/or cylinder bore may be worn or damaged.
      • If the pressure stays low, a valve may be stuck or seated improperly, or there may be leaks from the gasket.
    10. Install the 4 spark plugs (Refer to INSTALLATION [11/2015 - ] ).
    11. Clear the DTCs (Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [11/2015 - ] ).

Reinstall the sensors, connectors, etc. and restore the previous vehicle conditions before rechecking for DTCs.

  9. INSPECT CO/HC

    HINT:

This check determines whether or not the idle CO / HC complies with regulations.

    1. Put the engine in inspection mode (maintenance mode) (Refer to INSPECTION MODE PROCEDURE [11/2015 - ] ).
    2. Start the engine.
    3. Run the engine at 2500 rpm for approximately 180 seconds.
    4. Insert a CO/HC meter testing probe at least 40 cm (1.31 ft.) into the tailpipe while idling.
    5. Check the CO/HC concentration while idling and when the engine is running at 2500 rpm.

      HINT:

When doing a 2 mode (with the engine idling/ running at 2500 rpm) test, the measurement procedures are determined by applicable local regulations.

If the CO/HC concentration does not comply with the regulations, troubleshoot in the order given below.

      1. Check the DTCs (Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [11/2015 - ] ).
      2. See the table below for possible causes, then inspect the applicable parts and repair them if necessary.
