On-Vehicle Inspection [11/2015 - ]: Procedure

  1. CHECK ENGINE OIL LEVEL 
    1. Put the engine in inspection mode (Refer to INSPECTION MODE PROCEDURE [11/2015 - ] ).
    2. Warm up and stop the engine, then wait for 5 minutes. The oil level should be between the low and full level marks on the engine oil level dipstick. If the engine oil level is low, check for leaks and add oil up to the full level mark.
      NOTE:

      Do not fill with engine oil to above the full level mark.

      HINT: 

      A certain amount of engine oil will be consumed while driving. In the following situations, oil consumption may increase, and engine oil may need to be refilled in between oil maintenance intervals.

      • When the engine is new, for example directly after purchasing the vehicle or after replacing the engine.
      • If low quality oil or oil of an inappropriate viscosity is used.
      • When driving at high engine speeds or with a heavy load, (when towing, etc.), or when accelerating or decelerating frequently while driving.
      • When judging the amount of oil consumption, keep in mind that the oil may have become diluted, making it difficult to judge the true level accurately.
  2. CHECK ENGINE OIL 
    1. Check the engine oil for deterioration, water contamination, discoloring or thinning. If the condition is visibly poor, replace the engine oil and oil filter element.
  3. INSPECT OIL PRESSURE 
    1. Remove the oil pressure switch (Refer to REMOVAL [11/2015 - ] ).
    2. Install an oil pressure gauge with the adapter.

    3. Put the engine in inspection mode (Refer to INSPECTION MODE PROCEDURE [11/2015 - ] ).
    4. Warm up the engine.
    5. Check the oil pressure.

      Standard Oil Pressure

      Engine Condition Oil Pressure
      Idle 59 kPa (0.6 kgf/cm2 , 4.2 psi) or more
      2500 rpm 140 to 280 kPa (1.4 to 2.9 kgf/cm2 , 20 to 41 psi)

      If the oil pressure is not as specified, check the oil pump (Refer to INSPECTION [11/2015 - ] ).

    6. Remove the oil pressure gauge with the adapter.
    7. Install the oil pressure switch (Refer to INSTALLATION [11/2015 - ] ).
    8. Inspect for oil leak.
