DTC C1A4B: Stop Light Relay Circuit [02/2014 - 11/2016]: Procedure

  1. CHECK FOR DTC (ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED BRAKE SYSTEM) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Chassis / ABS/VSC/TRAC / Trouble Codes.
    5. Check for DTCs.

      Chassis > ABS/VSC/TRAC > Trouble Codes 

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      Electronically controlled brake system DTCs are not output A
      Electronically controlled brake system DTCs are output B
    6. Turn the power switch off.

    Result:  2

    GO TO DTC CHART (ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED BRAKE SYSTEM). Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [02/2014 - ] 

    Result:  1

  2. CHECK STOP LIGHT OPERATION 
    1. Check that the stop lights come on when the brake pedal is depressed, and go off when the brake pedal is released.

      OK

      NG

    Result:  2

    NG 

    INSPECT LIGHTING SYSTEM (STOP LIGHT CIRCUIT). Refer to  PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE [02/2014 - 11/2016]

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (STOP LP RELAY POWER SOURCE) 
    1. Remove the stop light control relay (STOP LP relay) from the No. 1 engine room relay block and No. 1 junction block assembly.
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      Relay terminal 5 - Body ground Always 11 to 14 V
    3. Reinstall the stop light control relay (STOP LP relay) to the No. 1 engine room relay block and No. 1 junction block assembly.

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result:  2

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (STOP LP RELAY - POWER SOURCE) 

    Result:  1

    OK

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (STOP LP RELAY POWER SOURCE) 
    1. Remove the stop light control relay (STOP LP relay) from the No. 1 engine room relay block and No. 1 junction block assembly.
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      Relay terminal 2 - Body ground Power switch on (IG) 11 to 14 V
    3. Reinstall the stop light control relay (STOP LP relay) to the No. 1 engine room relay block and No. 1 junction block assembly.

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result:  2

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (STOP LP RELAY - POWER SOURCE)

  5. INSPECT STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Inspect the stop light switch assembly.

      Refer to INSPECTION [02/2014 - 11/2016]

    REPLACE STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY. Refer to  COMPONENTS [02/2014 - ]

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (STOP LP RELAY - STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Remove the stop light control relay (STOP LP relay) from the No. 1 engine room relay block and No. 1 junction block assembly.
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      Relay terminal 4 - Body ground Stop light switch assembly on (Brake pedal depressed) 11 to 14 V
      Relay terminal 4 - Body ground Stop light switch assembly off (Brake pedal released) Below 1.5 V
    3. Reinstall the stop light control relay (STOP LP relay) to the No. 1 engine room relay block and No. 1 junction block assembly.

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result:  2

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (STOP LP RELAY - STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY) 

    Result:  1

  7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY - SKID CONTROL ECU ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Turn the power switch off.
    2. Make sure that there is no looseness at the locking part and the connecting part of the connector.
    3. Disconnect the A64 skid control ECU connector.
    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A64-16 (STP) - Body ground Stop light switch assembly on (Brake pedal depressed) 11 to 14 V
      A64-16 (STP) - Body ground Stop light switch assembly off (Brake pedal released) Below 1.5 V

    5. Reconnect the A64 skid control ECU connector.

      Result

  8. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Chassis / ABS/VSC/TRAC / Active Test.
    5. Perform "Active Test" according to the display on the Techstream.

      Chassis > ABS/VSC/TRAC > Active Test

    6. Enter the following menus: Chassis / ABS/VSC/TRAC / Data List.
    7. Check the Data List for proper functioning of the stop light control relay (STOP LP relay).

  9. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (STOP LP RELAY - SKID CONTROL ECU ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Remove the stop light control relay (STOP LP relay) from the No. 1 engine room relay block and No. 1 junction block assembly.
    2. Disconnect the A65 skid control ECU assembly connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      Relay terminal 1 - A65-11 (STPO) Always Below 1 Ω

      Standard Resistance (Check for Short)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      Relay terminal 1 or A65-11 (STPO) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
    4. Reinstall the stop light control relay (STOP LP relay) to the No. 1 engine room relay block and No. 1 junction block assembly.
    5. Reconnect the A65 skid control ECU assembly connector.

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result:  2

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

  10. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (STOP LP RELAY - SKID CONTROL ECU ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Remove the stop light control relay (STOP LP relay) from the No. 1 engine room relay block and No. 1 junction block assembly.
    2. Disconnect the A63 skid control ECU assembly connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      Relay terminal 3 - A63-14 (STP2) Always Below 1 Ω

      Standard Resistance (Check for Short)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      Relay terminal 3 or A63-14 (STP2) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
    4. Reinstall the stop light control relay (STOP LP relay) to the No. 1 engine room relay block and No. 1 junction block assembly.
    5. Reconnect the A63 skid control ECU assembly connector.

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

  11. INSPECT STOP LIGHT CONTROL RELAY (STOP LP RELAY) 
    1. Inspect the stop light control relay (STOP LP relay).

      Refer to ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION [02/2014 - 11/2016]

    REPLACE STOP LIGHT CONTROL RELAY (STOP LP RELAY)

  12. CHECK STOP LIGHT CONTROL RELAY OUTPUT SIGNAL (STP2) 
    1. Turn the power switch off.
    2. Disconnect the A63 skid control ECU connector.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A63-14 (STP2) - Body ground Stop light switch assembly on (Brake pedal depressed) 11 to 14 V
      A63-14 (STP2) - Body ground Stop light switch assembly off (Brake pedal released) Below 1.5 V

    4. Reconnect the A63 skid control ECU connector.

      Result

      Proceed to

      NG

    REPLACE STOP LIGHT CONTROL RELAY (STOP LP RELAY) 

    Result:  1

    OK

  13. CHECK FOR DTC (PRE-COLLISION 2) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Clear the DTCs.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [02/2014 - 11/2016]

    4. Make sure that the DTC detection conditions are met.

      HINT: 

      If the detection conditions are not met, the system cannot detect the malfunction.

    5. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Pre-Collision 2 / Trouble Codes.
    6. Check for DTCs.

      Body Electrical > Pre-Collision 2 > Trouble Codes 

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      DTC C1A4B is not output. A
      DTC C1A4B is output. B
    7. Turn the power switch off.

    Result:  1

    END

  14. REPLACE SKID CONTROL ECU ASSEMBLY 
    1. Replace the skid control ECU assembly.

      Refer to REMOVAL [02/2014 - ]

    NEXT 

  15. CHECK FOR DTC (PRE-COLLISION 2) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Clear the DTCs.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [02/2014 - 11/2016]

    4. Make sure that the DTC detection conditions are met.

      HINT: 

      If the detection conditions are not met, the malfunction cannot be detected.

    5. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Pre-Collision 2 / Trouble Codes.
    6. Check for DTCs.

      Body Electrical > Pre-Collision 2 > Trouble Codes 

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      DTC C1A4B is not output A
      DTC C1A4B is output B
    7. Turn the power switch off.

    Result:  1

    END
