DTC P0A32-666: Drive Motor "B" Temperature Sensor Circuit Low; DTC P0A33-665: Drive Motor "B" Temperature Sensor Circuit High [02/2014 - 11/2016]: Procedure

  1. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR) 

    See step  1Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1

    OK

    - The connector is connected securely.

    - The terminals are not deformed and are connected securely.

    - No water or foreign matter in the connector.

    Result

    Result Proceed to

    NG (The connector is not connected securely.) B
    NG (The terminals are not making secure contact or are deformed, or water or foreign matter exists in the connector.) C

    Result:  2

    CONNECT SECURELY 

    Result:  3

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    Result:  1

  2. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (REAR MOTOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR) 
    1. Check the connection condition of the rear motor temperature sensor connector and the contact pressure of each terminal. Check the terminals for deformation, and check the connector for water ingress and foreign matter.

      Refer to ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT INSPECTION PROCEDURE [02/2014 - ]

      OK

      - The connector is connected securely.

      - The terminals are not deformed and are connected securely.

      - No water or foreign matter in the connector.

  3. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (REAR MOTOR TEMP) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / Rear Motor Temp.
    4. Read the Data List.

      Powertrain > Hybrid Control > Data List 

      Tester Display
      Rear Motor Temp

      Result

      Proceed to
      -40°C (-40°F)
      215°C (419°F)
      Same as actual temperature
    5. Turn the power switch off.

    Result:  2

    215°C (419°F) 

    See step  6

    Result:  3

    Same as actual temperature 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    Result:  1

    -40°C (-40°F)

  4. INSPECT REAR TRACTION MOTOR WITH TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY (REAR MOTOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR) 
    1. Disconnect the R4 motor temperature sensor connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      *a Component without harness connected
      (Rear traction motor with transaxle assembly (Rear motor temperature sensor))

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      1(RMT) - 3(RMTG) Power switch OFF 0.3436 to 1442 kΩ

      HINT: 

      The rear motor temperature sensor is not available as supply parts. If it requires replacement, replace the rear traction motor with transaxle assembly.

    3. Reconnect the R4 motor temperature sensor connector.

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result:  2

    NG 

    REPLACE REAR TRACTION MOTOR WITH TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY. Refer to  COMPONENTS [02/2014 - 11/2016] 

    Result:  1

    OK

  5. CHECK POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU 
    1. Connect terminals 24 (RMT) and 23 (RMTG) of the F15 power management control ECU connector.

      *a Component with harness connected
      (Power Management Control ECU)
    2. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / Rear Motor Temp.
    4. Read the Data List.

      Powertrain > Hybrid Control > Data List 

      Tester Display
      Rear Motor Temp

      OK

      Tester Display Condition Specified Condition
      Rear Motor Temp Terminals RMT and RMTG connected
      Power switch on (IG)
      215°C (419°F)
    5. Turn the power switch off.

      Result

      Proceed to

      NG

    Result:  1

    OK 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    Result:  2

    NG 

    REPLACE POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU. Refer to  COMPONENTS [02/2014 - 11/2016] 

  6. INSPECT REAR TRACTION MOTOR WITH TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY (REAR MOTOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR) 
    1. Disconnect the R4 motor temperature sensor connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      *a Component without harness connected
      (Rear traction motor with transaxle assembly (Rear motor temperature sensor))

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      1(RMT) - 3(RMTG) Power switch OFF 0.3436 to 1442 kΩ

      HINT: 

      The rear motor temperature sensor is not available as supply parts. If it requires replacement, replace the rear traction motor with transaxle assembly.

    3. Reconnect the R4 motor temperature sensor connector.

      Result

    REPLACE REAR TRACTION MOTOR WITH TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY. Refer to  COMPONENTS [02/2014 - 11/2016]

  7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU - REAR MOTOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR) 
    1. Disconnect connector the F15 power management control ECU connector.

      *a Rear view of wire harness connector
      (to Power Management Control ECU)
      *b Front view of wire harness connector
      (to Rear Motor Temperature Sensor)
    2. Disconnect the R4 rear motor temperature sensor connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      R4-1 (RMT) - F15-24 (RMT) Power switch off Below 1 Ω
      R4-3 (RMTG) - F15-23 (RMTG) Power switch off Below 1 Ω

      Standard Resistance (Check for Short)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      R4-1 (RMT) or F15-24 (RMT) - Body ground and other terminals Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      R4-3 (RMTG) or F15-23 (RMTG) - Body ground and other terminals Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
    4. Reconnect the R4 rear motor temperature sensor connector.
    5. Reconnect the F15 power management control ECU connector.

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result:  1

    OK 

    REPLACE POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU. Refer to  COMPONENTS [02/2014 - 11/2016]
