DTC B1498/98: Communication Malfunction (A/C Inverter Local) [11/2016 - ]: Procedure

  1. CHECK CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM 
    1. Using the Techstream, check if the CAN communication system is functioning normally.

      Refer to HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [11/2016 - ]

      Result

      CAN communication system DTCs are not output A
      CAN communication system DTCs are output B

    Result:  2

    GO TO CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [11/2016 - ]

  2. CHECK FOR DTC 
    1. Check if hybrid control system DTCs are output.

      Refer to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [11/2016 - 10/2017] Refer to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [10/2017 - ]

      Powertrain > Hybrid Control > Trouble Codes 

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      DTCs are not output A
      Only DTC P3108 is output
      DTCs other than P3108 are output B

    Result:  2

    GO TO HYBRID CONTROL SYSTEM. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [02/2014 - ] 

    Result:  1

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COMPRESSOR WITH MOTOR ASSEMBLY - BODY GROUND) 
    WARNING:

    Do not disconnect the connector on the high-voltage side.

    1. Disconnect the C13 compressor with motor assembly connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C13-5 (GND) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result:  2

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    Result:  1

    OK

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COMPRESSOR WITH MOTOR ASSEMBLY - IG CIRCUIT, GROUND) 
    1. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C13-6 (IG1) - C13-5 (GND) Power switch on (IG) 11 to 14 V
      C13-6 (IG1) - C13-5 (GND) Power switch off Below 1 V

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result:  2

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    Result:  1

    OK

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COMPRESSOR WITH MOTOR ASSEMBLY - HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the A86 hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C13-1 (CLK) - A86-10 (CLK) Always Below 1 Ω
      C13-2 (DIN) - A86-9 (ITE) Always Below 1 Ω
      C13-3 (DOUT) - A86-8 (ETI) Always Below 1 Ω
      C13-1 (CLK) or A86-10 (CLK) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      C13-2 (DIN) or A86-9 (ITE) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      C13-3 (DOUT) or A86-8 (ETI) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

      Result

  6. INSPECT ELECTRIC VEHICLE FUSE

    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

    1. Turn the power switch off.
    2. Remove the service plug grip.

      Refer to REMOVAL [02/2014 - ]

      WARNING:

      Do not touch the high-voltage connectors or terminals for 10 minutes after the service plug grip is removed.

      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, turning the power switch on (READY) may cause a malfunction. Do not turn the power switch on (READY) with the service plug grip removed.

    3. Remove the connector cover assembly.

      Refer to REMOVAL [11/2016 - ]

      NOTE:

      Be sure to prevent foreign matter or water from entering the inverter with converter assembly.

    4. Check that bolts A and B are tightened securely.
    5. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Result

    Result:  2

    NG 

    REPLACE ELECTRIC VEHICLE FUSE. Refer to  REMOVAL [11/2016 - ]

  7. INSPECT NO. 2 ENGINE ROOM WIRE 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

    1. Disconnect the w2 and w1 No. 2 engine room wire connectors.

      Refer to REMOVAL [11/2016 - ]

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      w1-1 (PE) - w2-2 (ACPE) Always Below 1 Ω
      w1-2 (PB) - w2-1 (ACPB) Always Below 1 Ω
      w1-1 (PE) or w2-2 (ACPE) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      w1-2 (PB) or w2-1 (ACPB) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result:  2

    NG 

    REPLACE NO. 2 ENGINE ROOM WIRE. Refer to  REMOVAL [11/2016 - ]

  8. REPLACE COMPRESSOR WITH MOTOR ASSEMBLY 
    1. Replace the compressor with motor assembly.

      Refer to REMOVAL [11/2016 - ]

      HINT: 

      Since the compressor with motor assembly cannot be inspected while it is removed from the vehicle, replace the compressor with motor assembly with a new or known good one and check that the condition returns to normal.

    2. Check for DTCs.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [02/2014 - ]

      Body Electrical > Air Conditioner > Trouble Codes

    END (COMPRESSOR WITH MOTOR ASSEMBLY WAS DEFECTIVE)
