DTC P0516-769: Battery Temperature Sensor Circuit Low; DTC P0517-770: Battery Temperature Sensor Circuit High [11/2016 - ]: Procedure

  1. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU ASSEMBLY CONNECTOR) 
    1. Check the connector connections and contact pressure of the relevant terminals for the hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly connectors.

      Refer to ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT INSPECTION PROCEDURE [02/2014 - ]

      OK

      The connectors are connected securely and there are no contact pressure problems.

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result:  2

    NG 

    CONNECT SECURELY 

    Result:  1

    OK

  2. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (AUXILIARY BATT TEMPERATURE) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / Auxiliary Batt Temperature.

      Powertrain > Hybrid Control > Data List 

      Tester Display
      Auxiliary Batt Temperature
    4. Read the Data List.

      Result

      Proceed to
      -40°C (-40°F)
      215°C (419°F)
      Same as actual temperature
    5. Turn the power switch off.

    Result:  6

    215°C (419°F)

    Result:  2

    Same as actual temperature 

    CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS. Refer to  CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS [02/2014 - ] 

    Result:  1

    -40°C (-40°F)

  3. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (CHECK FOR OPEN) 
    1. Disconnect the M24 thermistor assembly connector.

    2. Connect terminals 2 (THB) and 1 (E2) of the M24 thermistor assembly connector.

    3. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    4. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / Auxiliary Batt Temperature.

      Powertrain > Hybrid Control > Data List 

      Tester Display
      Auxiliary Batt Temperature
    6. Read the Data List.

      OK

      Tester Display Condition Specified Condition
      Auxiliary Batt Temperature Terminals THB and E2 connected
      Power switch on (IG)
      215°C (419°F)
    7. Turn the power switch off.
    8. Reconnect the M24 thermistor assembly connector.

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result:  1

    OK 

    REPLACE THERMISTOR ASSEMBLY 

    Result:  2

    NG

  4. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (CHECK FOR SHORT) 
    1. Disconnect the M24 thermistor assembly connector.

    2. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    3. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / Auxiliary Batt Temperature.

      Powertrain > Hybrid Control > Data List 

      Tester Display
      Auxiliary Batt Temperature
    5. Read the Data List.

      OK

      Tester Display Condition Specified Condition
      Auxiliary Batt Temperature Power switch on (IG) -40°C (-40°F)
    6. Turn the power switch off.
    7. Reconnect the M24 thermistor assembly connector.

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result:  1

    OK 

    REPLACE THERMISTOR ASSEMBLY 

    Result:  2

    NG

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU ASSEMBLY - THERMISTOR ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Connect terminals 20 (THB) and 21 (ETHB) of the F137 hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly connector.

      *a Component with harness connected
      (hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly)
    2. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    3. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / Auxiliary Batt Temperature.

      Powertrain > Hybrid Control > Data List 

      Tester Display
      Auxiliary Batt Temperature
    5. Read the Data List.

      OK

      Tester Display Condition Specified Condition
      Auxiliary Batt Temperature Terminals THB and E2 connected
      Power switch on (IG)
      215°C (419°F)
    6. Turn the power switch off.

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result:  1

    OK 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    Result:  2

    NG 

    REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU ASSEMBLY. Refer to  COMPONENTS [11/2016 - ] 

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (THERMISTOR ASSEMBLY - HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the M24 thermistor assembly connector.
    2. Disconnect the F137 hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      M24-2 (THB) - F137-20 (THB) Power switch off Below 1 Ω
      M24-1 (E2) - F137-21 (ETHB) Power switch off Below 1 Ω

      Standard Resistance (Check for Short)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      M24-2 (THB) or F137-20 (THB) - Body ground and other terminals Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      M24-1 (E2) or F137-21 (ETHB) - Body ground and other terminals Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher

    4. Reconnect the F137 hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly connector.
    5. Reconnect the M24 thermistor assembly connector.

      Result

    REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU ASSEMBLY. Refer to  COMPONENTS [11/2016 - ]
