Fuel Receiver Gauge Display Malfunction [02/2014 - 11/2016]: Procedure

  1. CHECK SYMPTOMS 
    1. Ask the customer about the problem symptoms.
      Result Proceed to
      Malfunction occurs when adding fuel (Even after adding fuel, reading does not increase at all or increases very slowly, etc.) A
      Malfunction occurs during normal driving (The reading does not change, decreases quickly or decreases when the vehicle is not being driven, etc.) (The problem symptom recurs) B
      Malfunction occurs during normal driving (The reading does not change, decreases quickly or decreases when the vehicle is not being driven, etc.) (The problem symptom does not recur) C

  2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (FUEL METER OPERATION) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Active Test.
    5. Check the operation by referring to the table below.

      Body Electrical > Combination Meter > Active Test

  3. CHECK FOR DTC 
    1. Check if SFI system DTCs are output.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [02/2014 - 11/2016] .

      Powertrain > Engine > Trouble Codes 

      Result Proceed to
      SFI system DTCs are not output. A
      SFI system DTCs are output. B

    Result: 

    B 

    GO TO SFI SYSTEM: 

    Refer to HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [02/2014 - 11/2016] .

    Result: 

    A 

    Go to next step 

  4. CHECK FOR DTC 
    1. Check if electronically controlled brake system DTCs are output.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [02/2014 - ] .

      Chassis > ABS/VSC/TRAC > Trouble Codes 

      Result Proceed to
      Electronically controlled brake system DTCs are not output. A
      Electronically controlled brake system DTCs are output. B

    Result: 

    B 

    GO TO ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED BRAKE SYSTEM: 

    Refer to HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [02/2014 - ] .

    Result: 

    A 

    Go to next step 

  5. CHECK FUEL RECEIVER GAUGE OPERATION BY ADDING FUEL 
    1. Record the fuel receiver gauge reading.
    2. If the fuel tank assembly is almost full, drain 20 liters or more of fuel. (This is not necessary when the fuel tank assembly is sufficiently below full.)
    3. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal to reset the fuel receiver gauge.

      HINT: 

      Check that the power switch is turned off before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.

    4. Connect the cable to the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal and turn the power switch on (IG).
    5. Check that the fuel receiver gauge has been reset.
    6. Drive the vehicle at 1.75 km/h or more, then move the shift lever to P and turn the power switch off.
    7. Add 5.0 liters or more of fuel, turn the power switch on (IG), and check that the fuel receiver gauge reading increases in proportion to the amount of fuel added.
      Result Proceed to
      Fuel receiver gauge reading increases in proportion to the amount of fuel added. A
      Fuel receiver gauge reading does not change even when fuel is added. B

  6. INSPECT FUEL TANK ASSEMBLY 

    HINT: 

    Inspect the fuel tank assembly for deformation, foreign matter or an improperly installed fuel receiver gauge, as this may be the cause of the fuel receiver gauge malfunction.

    1. Visually check the fuel tank assembly for any abnormalities.
    2. Check if there is an excessive amount of foreign matter in the fuel tank assembly.
    3. Check the installation condition of the fuel tank assembly and fuel sender gauge assembly.
      Result Proceed to
      Normal A
      Appearance of the fuel tank assembly is abnormal. B
      There is an excessive amount of foreign matter in the fuel tank assembly. C
      The fuel tank assembly or fuel sender gauge assembly is not installed correctly. D

    Result: 

    B 

    REPLACE FUEL TANK ASSEMBLY: 

    Refer to REMOVAL [02/2014 - 11/2016] .

    Result: 

    C 

    CLEAN INSIDE OF FUEL TANK ASSEMBLY 

    Result: 

    D 

    INSTALL FUEL TANK ASSEMBLY OR FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY CORRECTLY 

    Result: 

    A 

    Go to next step 

  7. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (FUEL INPUT) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Data List.
    5. Check the values by referring to the table below.

      Body Electrical > Combination Meter > Data List

  8. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY - FUEL SUCTION TUBE WITH PUMP AND GAUGE ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the F22 combination meter assembly connector.
    2. Disconnect the c2 fuel suction tube with pump and gauge assembly connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F22-14 (FR) - c2-2 (FS) Always Below 1 Ω
      F22-15 (FE) - c2-3 (FE) Always Below 1 Ω
      F22-14 (FR) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      F22-15 (FE) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    Result: 

    OK 

    Go to next step 

  9. INSPECT FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the fuel sender gauge assembly.

      Refer to REMOVAL [02/2014 - 11/2016] .

    2. Inspect the fuel sender gauge assembly.

      Refer to INSPECTION [02/2014 - 11/2016] .

      OK

      Fuel sender gauge assembly is normal.

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY: 

    Refer to REMOVAL [02/2014 - 11/2016] .

    Result: 

    OK 

    Go to next step 

  10. INSPECT FUEL SUCTION TUBE WITH PUMP AND GAUGE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

    Refer to REMOVAL [02/2014 - 11/2016] .

  11. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (FUEL METER OPERATION)

    1. Check if SFI system DTCs are output.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [02/2014 - 11/2016] .

      Powertrain > Engine > Trouble Codes 

      Result Proceed to
      SFI system DTCs are not output. A
      SFI system DTCs are output. B

    Result: 

    B 

    GO TO SFI SYSTEM: 

    Refer to HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [02/2014 - 11/2016] .

  13. CHECK FOR DTC 
    1. Check if electronically controlled brake system DTCs are output.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [02/2014 - ] .

      Chassis > ABS/VSC/TRAC > Trouble Codes 

      Result Proceed to
      Electronically controlled brake system DTCs are not output. A
      Electronically controlled brake system DTCs are output. B

    Result:

    GO TO ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED BRAKE SYSTEM:

  14. CHECK FOR DTC 
    1. Check if meter / gauge system DTCs are output.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [02/2014 - ] .

      Body Electrical > Combination Meter > Trouble Codes 

      Result Proceed to
      DTC B1500 is not output. A
      DTC B1500 is output. B

    Result: 

    B 

    GO TO DTC B1500: 

    Refer to DTC B1500: Fuel Sender Open Detected [02/2014 - 11/2016] .

    Result: 

    A 

    Go to next step 

  15. INSPECT FUEL RECEIVER GAUGE 
    1. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal to reset the fuel receiver gauge.

      HINT: 

      Check that the power switch is turned off before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.

    2. Connect the cable to the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal and turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Check if the fuel receiver gauge reading corresponds with the amount of fuel remaining in the fuel tank assembly.
      Result Proceed to
      Fuel receiver gauge reading corresponds with the amount of fuel remaining in the fuel tank assembly. A
      Fuel receiver gauge reading does not correspond with the amount of fuel remaining in the fuel tank assembly. B

  16. CHECK FOR DTC 
    1. Check if SFI system DTCs are output.

  17. CHECK FOR DTC 
    1. Check if electronically controlled brake system DTCs are output.

  18. INSPECT FUEL TANK ASSEMBLY 

    HINT: 

    Inspect the fuel tank assembly for deformation, foreign matter or an improperly installed fuel receiver gauge, as this may be the cause of the fuel receiver gauge malfunction.
