- REMOVE PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY
- REMOVE TRANSMISSION REVOLUTION SENSOR
- REMOVE OIL COOLER TUBE UNION
- for Elbow Type:
- Loosen the nut while holding the oil cooler tube union.
- Remove the oil cooler tube union from the transaxle case.
- Using a screwdriver, remove the O-ring from the oil cooler tube union.NOTE:
Be careful not to damage the oil cooler tube union.
HINT:
Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
- for Straight Type:
- Remove the oil cooler tube union from the transaxle case.
- Using a screwdriver, remove the O-ring from the oil cooler tube union.NOTE:
Be careful not to damage the oil cooler tube union.
HINT:
Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
- for Elbow Type:
- REMOVE NO. 1 TRANSAXLE CASE PLUG
- Remove the 4 No. 1 transaxle case plugs from the transaxle housing and transaxle case.
- Using a screwdriver, remove the 4 O-rings from the 4 No. 1 transaxle case plugs.NOTE:
Be careful not to damage the No. 1 transaxle case plug.
HINT:
Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
- Remove the No. 1 transaxle case plug from the transaxle case.
- Using a screwdriver, remove the O-ring from the No. 1 transaxle case plug.NOTE:
Be careful not to damage the No. 1 transaxle case plug.
HINT:
Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
- Remove the 4 No. 1 transaxle case plugs from the transaxle housing and transaxle case.
- REMOVE BREATHER PLUG HOSE
- Using a screwdriver, remove the breather plug hose from the breather plug.NOTE:
Be careful not to damage the breather plug.
HINT:
Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
- Using a screwdriver, remove the No. 1 breather plug (ATM) from the breather plug hose.NOTE:
Be careful not to damage the breather plug hose.
HINT:
Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
- Using a screwdriver, remove the breather plug hose from the breather plug.
- REMOVE BREATHER PLUG
- Using a screwdriver, remove the breather plug from the transaxle case.NOTE:
Be careful not to damage the transaxle case.
HINT:
Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
- Using a screwdriver, remove the O-ring from the breather plug.NOTE:
Be careful not to damage the breather plug.
HINT:
Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
- Using a screwdriver, remove the breather plug from the transaxle case.
- SUPPORT AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY
- REMOVE DRAIN PLUG
- Using a 10 mm hexagon socket wrench, remove the drain plug and gasket from the automatic transaxle oil pan sub-assembly.
- REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE OIL PAN SUB-ASSEMBLY

- Apply compressed air (392 kPa, 4.0 kgf/cm2
, 57 psi) to the oil hole and remove the B-2 accumulator piston and B-2 accumulator piston compression spring from the transaxle case.NOTE:
- Applying compressed air may cause the B-2 accumulator piston to jump out. When removing the B-2 accumulator piston, hold it by hand using a piece of cloth.
- Be careful as ATF may spray when applying compressed air.
- Using a screwdriver, remove the 2 B-2 accumulator piston O-rings from the B-2 accumulator piston.NOTE:
Be careful not to damage the B-2 accumulator piston.
HINT:
Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
- Apply compressed air (392 kPa, 4.0 kgf/cm2
, 57 psi) to the oil hole and remove the B-2 accumulator piston and B-2 accumulator piston compression spring from the transaxle case.
- REMOVE C-3 ACCUMULATOR PISTON
- Apply compressed air (392 kPa, 4.0 kgf/cm2
, 57 psi) to the oil hole and remove the C-3 accumulator piston and C-3 accumulator piston compression spring from the transaxle case.NOTE:
- Applying compressed air may cause the C-3 accumulator piston to jump out. When removing the C-3 accumulator piston, hold it by hand using a piece of cloth.
- Be careful as ATF may spray when applying compressed air.
- Using a screwdriver, remove the 2 C-3 accumulator piston O-rings from the C-3 accumulator piston.NOTE:
Be careful not to damage the C-3 accumulator piston.
HINT:
Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
- Apply compressed air (392 kPa, 4.0 kgf/cm2
, 57 psi) to the oil hole and remove the C-3 accumulator piston and C-3 accumulator piston compression spring from the transaxle case.
- REMOVE C-2 ACCUMULATOR PISTON
- Apply compressed air (392 kPa, 4.0 kgf/cm2
, 57 psi) to the oil hole and remove the C-2 accumulator piston and C-2 accumulator piston compression spring from the transaxle case.NOTE:
- Applying compressed air may cause the C-2 accumulator piston to jump out. When removing the C-2 accumulator piston, hold it by hand using a piece of cloth.
- Be careful as ATF may spray when applying compressed air.
- Using a screwdriver, remove the 2 C-2 accumulator piston O-rings from the C-2 accumulator piston.NOTE:
Be careful not to damage the C-2 accumulator piston.

- Apply compressed air (392 kPa, 4.0 kgf/cm2
, 57 psi) to the oil hole and remove the C-2 accumulator piston and C-2 accumulator piston compression spring from the transaxle case.
- REMOVE TRANSAXLE HOUSING
- INSPECT INPUT SHAFT ASSEMBLY END PLAY

- Using SST, remove the front differential case rear tapered roller bearing (outer race) and front differential rear case shim from the transaxle case.

- REMOVE OVERDRIVE BRAKE O-RING

- REMOVE STATOR SHAFT THRUST NEEDLE ROLLER BEARING
- INSPECT PACK CLEARANCE OF FORWARD CLUTCH

- REMOVE FRONT CLUTCH DISC
- Using a screwdriver, remove the snap ring from the input shaft sub-assembly.
*a Protective Tape NOTE:Be careful not to damage the input shaft sub-assembly.
HINT:
Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
- Remove the forward clutch flange, 4 front clutch discs and 4 forward multiple disc clutch plates from the input shaft sub-assembly.
- Using a screwdriver, remove the snap ring from the input shaft sub-assembly.
- REMOVE FORWARD CLUTCH RETURN SPRING SUB-ASSEMBLY
- Place SST on the No. 1 clutch balancer and compress the forward clutch return spring sub-assembly with a press.
- SST: 09320-89010
NOTE:Do not compress the forward clutch return spring sub-assembly excessively.
- Using a snap ring expander, remove the snap ring from the input shaft sub-assembly.NOTE:
Do not expand the snap ring excessively.
- Remove the No. 1 clutch balancer and forward clutch return spring sub-assembly from the input shaft sub-assembly.
*1 No. 1 Clutch Balancer *2 Forward Clutch Return Spring Sub-assembly
- Place SST on the No. 1 clutch balancer and compress the forward clutch return spring sub-assembly with a press.
- REMOVE FORWARD CLUTCH PISTON
- Install the input shaft sub-assembly to the oil pump assembly.
- While holding the forward clutch piston by hand, apply compressed air (392 kPa, 4.0 kgf/cm2
, 57 psi) to the oil pump assembly to remove the forward clutch piston from the input shaft sub-assembly.
HINT:
If the forward clutch piston cannot be removed because it is tilted, either apply compressed air again while keeping the forward clutch piston level or remove the forward clutch piston using needle-nose pliers with its tips wrapped with protective tape.
- Install the input shaft sub-assembly to the oil pump assembly.
- REMOVE FORWARD CLUTCH PISTON O-RING
- REMOVE INPUT SHAFT OIL SEAL RING
- REMOVE FORWARD CLUTCH HUB THRUST NEEDLE ROLLER BEARING
- INSPECT INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY END PLAY

- REMOVE FORWARD CLUTCH HUB SUB-ASSEMBLY
- REMOVE REAR TRANSAXLE COVER ASSEMBLY
- REMOVE REAR TRANSAXLE COVER PLUG
- REMOVE OVERDRIVE BRAKE RETURN SPRING SUB-ASSEMBLY
- Using SST, a press and a screwdriver, remove the snap ring from the rear transaxle cover sub-assembly.
*1 Snap Ring *2 Overdrive Brake Return Spring Sub-assembly - SST: 09387-00070
NOTE:- Stop the press when the overdrive brake return spring sub-assembly is lowered 1 to 2 mm (0.0394 to 0.0787 in.) from the snap ring groove to prevent the overdrive brake return spring sub-assembly from being deformed.
- Be careful not to damage the rear transaxle cover sub-assembly.
HINT:
Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
- Remove the overdrive brake return spring sub-assembly from the 2nd coast and overdrive brake piston.
- Using SST, a press and a screwdriver, remove the snap ring from the rear transaxle cover sub-assembly.
- REMOVE 2ND COAST AND OVERDRIVE BRAKE PISTON
- Apply compressed air (392 kPa, 4.0 kgf/cm2
, 57 psi) to the rear transaxle cover sub-assembly to remove the 2nd coast and overdrive brake piston from the rear transaxle cover sub-assembly.NOTE:
- Applying compressed air may cause the 2nd coast and overdrive brake piston to jump out. When removing the 2nd coast and overdrive brake piston, hold it by hand using a piece of cloth.
- Be careful as ATF may spray when applying compressed air.
- Apply compressed air (392 kPa, 4.0 kgf/cm2
, 57 psi) to the rear transaxle cover sub-assembly to remove the 2nd coast and overdrive brake piston from the rear transaxle cover sub-assembly.
- REMOVE 2ND COAST AND OVERDRIVE O-RING
- REMOVE CLUTCH DRUM OIL SEAL RING
- REMOVE REAR TRANSAXLE COVER NEEDLE ROLLER BEARING
- REMOVE TRANSAXLE CASE O-RING
- REMOVE REAR CLUTCH DRUM THRUST NEEDLE ROLLER BEARING
- INSPECT 2ND COAST AND OVERDRIVE BRAKE CLEARANCE

- Remove the reverse clutch flange, 3 reverse clutch discs and 3 No. 3 clutch plates from the intermediate shaft sub-assembly.
- Using a screwdriver, remove the snap ring from the intermediate shaft sub-assembly.
- REMOVE DIRECT CLUTCH DISC
- Using a screwdriver, remove the snap ring from the intermediate shaft sub-assembly.
*a Protective Tape NOTE:Be careful not to damage the intermediate shaft sub-assembly.
HINT:
Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
- Remove the direct clutch flange, 3 direct clutch discs and 3 rear clutch flanges from the intermediate shaft sub-assembly.
- Using a screwdriver, remove the snap ring from the intermediate shaft sub-assembly.
- REMOVE DIRECT CLUTCH RETURN SPRING SUB-ASSEMBLY
- Place SST on the direct clutch return spring sub-assembly and compress the direct clutch return spring sub-assembly with a press.
- SST: 09387-00020
- Using a snap ring expander, remove the snap ring from the intermediate shaft sub-assembly.NOTE:
Do not expand the snap ring excessively.
- Remove the direct clutch return spring sub-assembly from the intermediate shaft sub-assembly.
- Place SST on the direct clutch return spring sub-assembly and compress the direct clutch return spring sub-assembly with a press.
- REMOVE DIRECT CLUTCH PISTON SUB-ASSEMBLY
- Install the intermediate shaft sub-assembly to the rear transaxle cover sub-assembly.
- Apply compressed air (392 kPa, 4.0 kgf/cm2
, 57 psi) to the oil hole shown in the illustration and remove the direct clutch piston sub-assembly from the intermediate shaft sub-assembly.NOTE:
- Applying compressed air may cause the direct clutch piston sub-assembly to jump out. When removing the direct clutch piston sub-assembly, hold it by hand using a piece of cloth.
- Be careful as ATF may spray when applying compressed air.
- Install the intermediate shaft sub-assembly to the rear transaxle cover sub-assembly.
- REMOVE DIRECT CLUTCH PISTON O-RING
- REMOVE DIRECT CLUTCH DRUM SUB-ASSEMBLY
- Install the intermediate shaft sub-assembly to the rear transaxle cover sub-assembly.
- Put a matchmark on the direct clutch drum sub-assembly in the same position as the cutout of the intermediate shaft sub-assembly.
- Apply compressed air (392 kPa, 4.0 kgf/cm2
, 57 psi) to the oil hole shown in the illustration and remove the direct clutch drum sub-assembly from the intermediate shaft sub-assembly.NOTE:
- Applying compressed air may cause the direct clutch drum sub-assembly to jump out. When removing the direct clutch drum sub-assembly, hold it by hand using a piece of cloth.
- Be careful as ATF may spray when applying compressed air.
- Install the intermediate shaft sub-assembly to the rear transaxle cover sub-assembly.
- REMOVE DIRECT CLUTCH DRUM O-RING
- REMOVE 2ND COAST AND OVERDRIVE BRAKE DISC
- REMOVE THRUST NEEDLE ROLLER BEARING
- REMOVE DIRECT CLUTCH HUB
- REMOVE REAR NO. 2 PLANETARY SUN GEAR THRUST NEEDLE ROLLER BEARING
- REMOVE REAR PLANETARY SUN GEAR ASSEMBLY
- INSPECT ONE-WAY CLUTCH ASSEMBLY

- Using a screwdriver, remove the snap ring from the transaxle case.
*1 Snap Ring *2 Rear Planetary Gear Assembly with No. 2 One-way Clutch and 2nd Brake Assembly NOTE:Be careful not to damage the transaxle case.
HINT:
Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
- Remove the rear planetary gear assembly with No. 2 one-way clutch and 2nd brake assembly from the transaxle case.
- Using a screwdriver, remove the snap ring from the transaxle case.
- REMOVE REAR PLANETARY GEAR THRUST NEEDLE ROLLER BEARING
- REMOVE NO. 1 THRUST BEARING RACE
- REMOVE NO. 2 ONE-WAY CLUTCH
- REMOVE OUTER RACE RETAINER
- REMOVE 2ND BRAKE PISTON RETURN SPRING SUB-ASSEMBLY
- Place SST on the 2nd brake piston return spring sub-assembly and compress the 2nd brake piston return spring sub-assembly with a press.
*a Protective Tape - SST: 09387-00060
- Using a screwdriver, remove the snap ring from the 2nd brake cylinder.NOTE:
Be careful not to damage the 2nd brake cylinder.
HINT:
Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
- Remove the 2nd brake piston return spring sub-assembly from the 2nd brake cylinder.
*1 2nd Brake Piston Return Spring Sub-assembly *2 2nd Brake Cylinder
- Place SST on the 2nd brake piston return spring sub-assembly and compress the 2nd brake piston return spring sub-assembly with a press.
- REMOVE 2ND BRAKE PISTON
- REMOVE 2ND BRAKE CYLINDER O-RING
- REMOVE FRONT PLANETARY SUN GEAR
- INSPECT PACK CLEARANCE OF 1ST AND REVERSE BRAKE

- REMOVE 1ST AND REVERSE BRAKE DISC
- REMOVE COUNTER DRIVE GEAR NUT
- REMOVE PLANETARY GEAR ASSEMBLY
- REMOVE COUNTER DRIVE GEAR
- REMOVE 1ST AND REVERSE BRAKE RETURN SPRING SUB-ASSEMBLY
- Place SST on the 1st and reverse brake return spring sub-assembly and compress the 1st and reverse brake return spring sub-assembly with a press.
*a Protective Tape - SST: 09387-00070
- Using a screwdriver, remove the snap ring from the transaxle case.NOTE:
Be careful not to damage the transaxle case.
HINT:
Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
- Remove the 1st and reverse brake return spring sub-assembly from the transaxle case.
- Place SST on the 1st and reverse brake return spring sub-assembly and compress the 1st and reverse brake return spring sub-assembly with a press.
- REMOVE NO. 2 1ST AND REVERSE BRAKE PISTON
- Apply compressed air (392 kPa, 4.0 kgf/cm2, 57 psi) to the oil hole shown in the illustration and remove the No. 2 1st and reverse brake piston from the transaxle case.NOTE:
- Applying compressed air may cause the No. 2 1st and reverse brake piston to jump out. When removing the No. 2 1st and reverse brake piston, hold it by hand using a piece of cloth.
- Be careful as ATF may spray when applying compressed air.
- Apply compressed air (392 kPa, 4.0 kgf/cm2, 57 psi) to the oil hole shown in the illustration and remove the No. 2 1st and reverse brake piston from the transaxle case.
- REMOVE NO. 2 1ST AND REVERSE BRAKE PISTON O-RING
- REMOVE PARKING LOCK PAWL BRACKET
- REMOVE MANUAL VALVE LEVER SHAFT RETAINER SPRING
- REMOVE MANUAL VALVE LEVER SUB-ASSEMBLY
- Using a screwdriver and a hammer, cut off the manual valve lever spacer and remove it from the manual valve lever shaft.
*a Protective Tape NOTE:Be careful not to damage the manual valve lever shaft.
HINT:
Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
- Using a 3 mm pin punch and hammer, remove the manual valve lever shaft slotted spring pin from the manual valve lever sub-assembly.
- Slide the manual valve lever shaft and remove the manual valve lever sub-assembly from the manual valve lever shaft.
- Using a screwdriver and a hammer, cut off the manual valve lever spacer and remove it from the manual valve lever shaft.
- REMOVE PARKING LOCK ROD SUB-ASSEMBLY
- REMOVE MANUAL VALVE LEVER SHAFT
- REMOVE PARKING LOCK PAWL
- REMOVE DIFFERENTIAL DRIVE PINION SUB-ASSEMBLY
- REMOVE DIFFERENTIAL DRIVE PINION PLUG
- REMOVE DIFFERENTIAL DRIVE PINION
- REMOVE BEARING LOCK PLATE
- REMOVE DIFFERENTIAL GEAR LUBE APPLY TUBE
- REMOVE FRONT DRIVE PINION FRONT CYLINDRICAL ROLLER BEARING
