On-Vehicle Inspection [08/2013 - ]: Procedure

- CHECK COOLING FAN SYSTEM
- Check and ensure the following conditions:
- The ignition switch is off.
- The coolant temperature is less than 96°C (205°F).
- The battery voltage is between 11 to 14 V.
- The A/C switch is off.
- Connect the pickup of a clamp-on ammeter over one of the 2 wires for the cooling fan motor.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON and wait for approximately 10 seconds. Check that the fan is not operating.
- Start the engine. Check that the fan is not operating with the engine idling.
HINT:
- Make sure that the radiator coolant temperature is less than 96°C (205°F).
- Turn the A/C switch off.
- Check that the fan operates when the A/C switch is turned on.
- Measure the current while the cooling fan motor is turning.

- Check that the fan operates when the water temperature sensor connector is disconnected.
- Measure the current while the cooling fan motor is turning.

HINT:
- The coolant temperature at which the fan starts operating is approximately 98°C (208°F).
