DTC B2799: Engine Immobilizer System Malfunction [08/2015 - ]: Procedure

  1. CLEAR DTC 
    1. Clear the DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [08/2015 - ] .

    NEXT: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK FOR DTC 
    1. Perform "DTC Output Confirmation Operation" procedure.
    2. Check for DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [08/2015 - ] .

      OK

      DTC B2799 is not output.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      DTC B2799 is output A
      Other DTCs are output B
      DTC B2799 is not output C

    B → See step   16 

    C → See step   14 

    A: Go to next step 

  3. INSPECT ECM (TERMINAL IMO) 
    1. Using an oscilloscope, check the waveform.

      Measurement Condition

      Tester Connection Condition Tool Setting Specified Condition
      A25-29 (IMO) - Body ground Within 3 seconds of starter operation and initial combustion, or within 3 seconds of ignition switch first being turned to ON after cable disconnected and reconnected to negative (-) battery terminal 2 V/DIV., 500 ms./DIV. Pulse generation
      (See waveform)

      OK

      Waveform is similar to that shown in the illustration.

      Result

      Normal waveform A
      Terminal IMO stuck low (2.4 V or less) B
      Terminal IMO stuck high (12 V) or abnormal waveform C

  4. INSPECT ECM (TERMINAL IMI)

      Measurement Condition

  5. REGISTER ECU COMMUNICATION ID 
    1. Register the ECU communication ID. Refer to REGISTRATION [08/2015 - ] .

    NEXT: Go to next step 

  6. CHECK WHETHER ENGINE STARTS 
    1. Using a registered door control transmitter assembly, turn the ignition switch to ON.
    2. Check that the engine starts 5 seconds after the ignition switch was turned to ON

      OK

      Engine starts normally.

    NG → See step   11 

    OK → END (COMMUNICATION ID REGISTRATION WAS DEFECTIVE) 

  7. INSPECT ECM (IMO TERMINAL VOLTAGE) 
    1. Disconnect the A25 ECM connector.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A25-29 (IMO) - Body ground Ignition switch turned to ON using registered door control transmitter assembly Terminal IMO stuck low (2.4 V or less)

      Result

      Terminal IMO stuck low (2.4 V or less) A
      Terminal IMO stuck high (12 V) or abnormal waveform B

    B → See step   11 

    A: Go to next step 

  8. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (TRANSPONDER KEY ECU ASSEMBLY - ECM) 
    1. Disconnect the I19 transponder key ECU assembly connector.
    2. Disconnect the A25 ECM connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      I19-12 (EFII) - A25-29 (IMO) Always Below 1 Ω
      I19-12 (EFII) or A25-29 (IMO) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  9. REPLACE TRANSPONDER KEY ECU ASSEMBLY 
    1. Replace the transponder key ECU assembly with a new one. Refer to REMOVAL [08/2015 - ] .
      NOTE:

      Key ID code registration is necessary when replacing the transponder key ECU assembly, refer to Registration. Refer to REGISTRATION [08/2015 - ] .

    NEXT: Go to next step 

  10. CHECK WHETHER ENGINE STARTS 
    1. Using a registered door control transmitter assembly, turn the ignition switch to ON.
    2. Check that the engine starts 5 seconds after the ignition switch was turned to ON

      OK

      Engine starts normally.

    NG → See step   17 

    OK → END (TRANSPONDER KEY ECU ASSEMBLY WAS DEFECTIVE) 

  11. REPLACE ECM 
    1. Temporarily replace the ECM with a new one. Refer to REMOVAL [08/2015 - ] .

    NEXT: Go to next step 

  12. REGISTER ECU COMMUNICATION ID 
    1. Register the ECU communication ID. Refer to REGISTRATION [08/2015 - ] .

    NEXT: Go to next step 

  13. CHECK WHETHER ENGINE STARTS 
    1. Using a registered door control transmitter assembly, turn the ignition switch to ON.
    2. Check that the engine starts 5 seconds after the ignition switch was turned to ON

      OK

      Engine starts normally.

    NG → See step   15 

    OK → END (ECM WAS DEFECTIVE) 

  14. USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [08/2015 - ] 
  15. REPLACE TRANSPONDER KEY ECU ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [08/2015 - ] 
  16. GO TO DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART. Refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [08/2015 - ] 
  17. REPLACE ECM. Refer to  REMOVAL [08/2015 - ]
