DTC P0989: Transmission Fluid Pressure Sensor / Switch "E" Circuit Low; DTC P0990: Transmission Fluid Pressure Sensor / Switch "E" Circuit High [10/2015 - ]: Procedure

  1. CHECK OTHER DTC OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P0989 OR P0990) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / ECT / Trouble Codes.
    5. Read the DTCs using the Techstream.

      Result

      Display (DTC Output) Proceed to
      Only DTC P0990 is output A
      Only DTC P0989 is output B
      DTC P0989 or P0990 and other DTCs are output C

      HINT: 

      If a solenoid is stuck OFF, DTCs for several solenoids including the malfunctioning solenoid will be detected.

    Result:

    GO TO DTC CHART 

    (Refer to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [10/2015 - ] )

  2. CHECK TRANSMISSION WIRE (SHORT TO GROUND) 
    1. Remove the TCM.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      19 (TPS3) - Body ground (Valve body assembly) and other terminals Always 10 kΩ or higher
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *a Component without harness connected
      (Transmission Wire)

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE TCM 

    (Refer to COMPONENTS [10/2014 - ] )

    Result: 

    NG

  3. CHECK ATF TEMPERATURE SENSOR ASSEMBLY (NO. 3 ATF PRESSURE SWITCH) 
    1. Remove the oil strainer assembly.
    2. Disconnect the connector from the ATF temperature sensor assembly.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      1 (TPS3) - Body ground (Valve body assembly) and other terminals Always 10 kΩ or higher

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE TRANSMISSION WIRE 

    (Refer to COMPONENTS [10/2014 - ] )

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE ATF TEMPERATURE SENSOR ASSEMBLY 

    (Refer to COMPONENTS [10/2014 - ] )

  4. CHECK TRANSMISSION WIRE 
    1. Remove the oil strainer assembly.
    2. Remove the TCM.

    3. Disconnect the connector from the ATF temperature sensor assembly.
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      19 (TPS3) TCM side - 1 (TPS3) sensor side Always Below 1 Ω
      1 (TPS3) sensor side - Body ground (Valve body assembly) and other terminals Always 10 kΩ or higher
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *a Component without harness connected
      (Transmission Wire))
      *b TCM Side
      *c ATF Temperature Sensor Side

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE TRANSMISSION WIRE 

    (Refer to COMPONENTS [10/2014 - ] )

    Result: 

    OK

  5. REPLACE ATF TEMPERATURE SENSOR ASSEMBLY 

    (Refer to COMPONENTS [10/2014 - ] )

    Result: 

    NEXT

  6. CHECK IF DTC OUTPUT RECURS 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Start the engine and turn the Techstream on.
    3. Clear the DTCs (Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [10/2014 - ] ).

      HINT: 

      Write down the currently output DTCs before clearing them.

    4. Perform the monitor drive pattern (Refer to MONITOR DRIVE PATTERN [10/2014 - ] ).
    5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / ECT / Trouble Codes.
    6. Read the DTCs using the Techstream.

      Result

      Display (DTC Output) Proceed to
      Only DTC P0989 is output A
      No output B

    Result: 

    REPLACE TCM

    Result:
