Shift Motor Circuit [08/2019 - ]: Procedure

  1. CONFIRM PROBLEM SYMPTOM 
    1. Confirm the problem symptoms.

      Result

      The 4WD indicator light is blinking* A
      The 4LO indicator light is blinking* B

      *: Blinks at 0.5 second intervals (0.5 seconds on and 0.5 seconds off)

  2. CHECK TRANSFER POSITION 
    1. Lift up the vehicle until all four wheels are off the ground.
    2. Move the shift lever to N.
    3. Turn the transfer position switch from H2 to H4.

      HINT: 

      The 4WD indicator light continues to blink*.

      1. *: Blinks at 0.5 second intervals (0.5 seconds on and 0.5 seconds off)
    4. Release the parking brake.
    5. Turn the ignition switch off.
    6. Disconnect the B62 transfer shift actuator assembly connector.
    7. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      *a Component without harness connected
      (Transfer Shift Actuator Assembly)

      HINT: 

      Check that the terminals of the limit switch, 4WD detection switch and L4 detection switch of the transfer shift actuator assembly (TL1, TL2, TL3, B and L4) are in the condition shown in the table below (H4).

      TL1 OFF (OPEN)
      TL2 OFF (OPEN)
      TL3 ON (GND)
      B ON (GND)
      L4 OFF (OPEN)

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      3 (TL1) - 6 (GND1) Transfer H4 10 kΩ or higher
      4 (TL2) - 6 (GND1) 10 kΩ or higher
      5 (TL3) - 6 (GND1) Below 1 Ω
      12 (B) - 10 (GND) Below 1 Ω
      9 (L4) - 10 (GND) 10 kΩ or higher

  3. CHECK A.D.D. ACTUATOR (DIFFERENTIAL VACUUM ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY) (A.D.D. SHIFT MOTOR) 
    1. Disconnect the D1 A.D.D. actuator (differential vacuum actuator assembly) connector.

      *a Component without harness connected
      (A.D.D. Actuator (Differential Vacuum Actuator Assembly))
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      1 (DM1) - 2 (DM2) Always 1.5 to 10 Ω

      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE A.D.D. ACTUATOR (DIFFERENTIAL VACUUM ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY). Refer to  REMOVAL [08/2015 - ]

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (4 WHEEL DRIVE CONTROL ECU - A.D.D. ACTUATOR (DIFFERENTIAL VACUUM ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY)) 
    1. Disconnect the F46 4 wheel drive control ECU connector.
    2. Disconnect the D1 A.D.D. actuator (differential vacuum actuator assembly) connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F46-2 (DM1) - D1-1 (DM1) Always Below 1 Ω
      F46-6 (DM2) - D1-2 (DM2) Always Below 1 Ω
      F46-2 (DM1) or D1-1 (DM1) - F46-6 (DM2) or D1-2 (DM2) Always 10 kΩ or higher

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    Result: 

    OK

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (4 WHEEL DRIVE CONTROL ECU - A.D.D. ACTUATOR (DIFFERENTIAL VACUUM ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY)) 
    1. Disconnect the F47 4 wheel drive control ECU connector.
    2. Disconnect the D1 A.D.D. actuator (differential vacuum actuator assembly) connector.
    3. Disconnect the A6 skid control ECU (master cylinder solenoid) connector.
    4. Disconnect the F51 ECM connector.
    5. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F47-8 (DL1) - D1-6 (DL1) Always Below 1 Ω
      F47-7 (DL2) - D1-5 (DL2) Always Below 1 Ω
      F47-2 (ADD) - D1-3 (ADD) Always Below 1 Ω
      D1-4 (GND) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
      F47-8 (DL1) or D1-6 (DL1) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      F47-7 (DL2) or D1-5 (DL2) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      F47-2 (ADD) or D1-3 (ADD) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

      Result

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

  6. INSPECT A.D.D. ACTUATOR (DIFFERENTIAL VACUUM ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY) (LIMIT SWITCH AND A.D.D. POSITION SWITCH) 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.
    2. Remove the A.D.D. actuator (differential vacuum actuator assembly).

      Refer to REMOVAL [08/2015 - ]

    3. Check the limit switch and A.D.D. position switch of the A.D.D. actuator (differential vacuum actuator assembly).

      Refer to INSPECTION [08/2019 - ]

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE 4 WHEEL DRIVE CONTROL ECU. Refer to  REMOVAL [08/2019 - ] 

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE A.D.D. ACTUATOR (DIFFERENTIAL VACUUM ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY). Refer to  REMOVAL [08/2015 - ] 

  7. CHECK TRANSFER SHIFT ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY (TRANSFER SHIFT MOTOR) 
    1. Disconnect the B62 transfer shift actuator assembly connector.

      *a Component without harness connected
      (Transfer Shift Actuator Assembly)
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      2 (TM1) - 1 (TM2) Always 1.5 to 10 Ω

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE TRANSFER SHIFT ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY. Refer to  DISASSEMBLY [08/2019 - ]

  8. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (4 WHEEL DRIVE CONTROL ECU - TRANSFER SHIFT ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the F46 4 wheel drive control ECU connector.
    2. Disconnect the B62 transfer shift actuator assembly connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F46-8 (TM1) - B62-2 (TM1) Always Below 1 Ω
      F46-7 (TM2) - B62-1 (TM2) Always Below 1 Ω
      F46-8 (TM1) or B62-2 (TM1) - F46-7 (TM2) or B62-1 (TM2) Always 10 kΩ or higher

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    Result:

  9. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (4 WHEEL DRIVE CONTROL ECU - TRANSFER SHIFT ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the F47 4 wheel drive control ECU connector.
    2. Disconnect the B62 transfer shift actuator assembly connector.
    3. Disconnect the F51 ECM connector.
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F47-11 (TL1) - B62-3 (TL1) Always Below 1 Ω
      F47-10 (TL2) - B62-4 (TL2) Always Below 1 Ω
      F47-9 (TL3) - B62-5 (TL3) Always Below 1 Ω
      B62-6 (GND1) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
      F47-1 (4WD) - B62-12 (B) Always Below 1 Ω
      F47-3 (4WDL) - B62-9 (L4) Always Below 1 Ω
      B62-10 (GND) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
      F47-11 (TL1) or B62-3 (TL1) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      F47-10 (TL2) or B62-4 (TL2) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      F47-9 (TL3) or B62-5 (TL3) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      F47-1 (4WD) or B62-12 (B) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

  10. INSPECT TRANSFER SHIFT ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY (LIMIT SWITCH AND 4WD DETECTION SWITCH) 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.
    2. Remove the transfer shift actuator assembly.

      Refer to DISASSEMBLY [08/2019 - ]

    3. Check the limit switch, 4WD detection switch and L4 detection switch of the transfer shift actuator assembly.

      Refer to INSPECTION [08/2019 - ]

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE 4 WHEEL DRIVE CONTROL ECU. Refer to  REMOVAL [08/2019 - ] 

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE TRANSFER SHIFT ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY. Refer to  DISASSEMBLY [08/2019 - ]
