4WD Control Switch Circuit [08/2019 - ]: Procedure

  1. CONFIRM PROBLEM SYMPTOM 
    1. Confirm the problem symptoms.

      The 4WD indicator light and 4LO indicator light remain off A
      The 4WD indicator light remains illuminated, and the 4LO indicator light remains off B
      The 4WD indicator light and 4LO indicator light remain illuminated C

  2. CHECK 4WD INDICATOR LIGHT 
    1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    2. Move the shift lever to N.
    3. Turn the transfer position switch to H4.
    4. Wait for 60 seconds.
    5. Check the 4WD indicator light.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      The 4WD indicator light blinks*1 or illuminates A
      The 4WD indicator light rapidly blinks*2 or remains off B
      • *1 (Blinking): Blinks at 0.5 second intervals (0.5 seconds on and 0.5 seconds off)
      • *2 (Rapidly blinking): Blinks at 0.25 second intervals (0.25 seconds on and 0.25 seconds off)

    Result: 

    END

  3. CHECK FOR DTC 
    1. Turn the transfer position switch to L4.
    2. Check if DTC P279E is output after 60 seconds elapse.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [08/2019 - ]

      DTC P279E is not output A
      DTC P279E is output B

    Result: 

    GO TO DTC P279E. Refer to  DTC P279E: Four Wheel Drive (4WD) Range Signal Circuit Range / Performance [08/2019 - ]

  4. CHECK CAN COMMUNICATION LINE 
    1. Select "Bus Check" from the System Selection Menu screen, and follow the prompts on the screen to inspect the CAN Bus.

      Refer to DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM [08/2019 - 08/2021] , or refer to DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM [08/2021 - 08/2022] , or refer to DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM [08/2022 - ]

      OK

      "Bus Check" indicates no malfunctions in CAN communication.

      NG

    CHECK CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [08/2019 - ]

  5. CHECK TRANSFER POSITION SWITCH 
    1. Remove the transfer position switch with its connector still connected.

      *a Component with harness connected
      (Transfer Position Switch)
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      F91-1 (2-4) - Body ground Ignition switch ON
      H2 position
      Below 1.5 V
      Ignition switch ON
      H4 position
      Below 1.5 V
      Ignition switch ON
      L4 position
      10 to 14 V

      H2 position
      10 to 14 V
      Ignition switch ON

      Below 1.5 V
      Ignition switch ON

    CHECK METER / GAUGE SYSTEM. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [08/2015 - ]

    REPLACE TRANSFER POSITION SWITCH. Refer to  REMOVAL [08/2019 - ] 

  6. CHECK 4WD INDICATOR LIGHT 
    1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    2. Move the shift lever to N.
    3. Turn the transfer position switch to H2.
    4. Wait for 60 seconds.
    5. Check the 4WD indicator light.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      The 4WD indicator light blinks*1 or turns off A
      The 4WD indicator light rapidly blinks*2 or remains on B
      • *1 (Blinking): Blinks at 0.5 second intervals (0.5 seconds on and 0.5 seconds off)
      • *2 (Rapidly blinking): Blinks at 0.25 second intervals (0.25 seconds on and 0.25 seconds off)

  7. CHECK 4LO INDICATOR LIGHT 

    HINT: 

    Perform the following procedures with the vehicle stopped.

    1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    2. Move the shift lever to N.
    3. Turn the transfer position switch to H4.
    4. Wait for 60 seconds.
    5. Check the 4LO indicator light.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      The 4LO indicator light blinks*1 or turns off A
      The 4LO indicator light rapidly blinks*2 or remains on B
      • *1 (Blinking): Blinks at 0.5 second intervals (0.5 seconds on and 0.5 seconds off)
      • *2 (Rapidly blinking): Blinks at 0.25 second intervals (0.25 seconds on and 0.25 seconds off)

  8. CHECK FOR DTC 
    1. Turn the transfer position switch to H2.
    2. Check if DTC P279E is output after 60 seconds elapse.
