DTC B1633/81: Rear Airbag Sensor Assembly RH Initialization Incomplete [07/2014 - ]: Procedure

  1. CHECK HISTORY DTC 
    1. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    2. Check for history DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [07/2014 - ] .

      OK

      History DTC B1632/81 or B1637/82 is not output.

      HINT: 

      Codes other than history DTCs B1632/81 and B1637/82 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

    NG → See step   22 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK CONNECTORS 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.
    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
      WARNING:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

    3. Check that the connectors are properly connected to the airbag sensor assembly, door side airbag sensor RH and No. 2 side airbag sensor assembly RH.

      OK

      The connectors are properly connected.

      HINT: 

      If the connectors are not connected securely, reconnect the connectors and proceed to the next inspection.

    4. Disconnect the connectors from the airbag sensor assembly, door side airbag sensor RH and No. 2 side airbag sensor assembly RH.
    5. Check that the terminals of connectors are not damaged.

      OK

      The terminals are not deformed or damaged.

    NG → REPLACE WIRE HARNESS 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK FLOOR WIRE (OPEN) 
    1. Using the service wire, connect terminals 4 (BCR+) and 3 (BCR-) of connector C.

      NOTE:

      Do not forcibly insert the service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      J74-1 (BCR+) - J74-2 (BCR-) Always Below 1 Ω

    NG → REPLACE FLOOR WIRE 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK FLOOR WIRE (SHORT) 
    1. Disconnect the service wire from connector C.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      J74-1 (BCR+) - J74-2 (BCR-) Always 1 MΩ or higher

      *2 Side Airbag Sensor Assembly RH

    NG → REPLACE FLOOR WIRE 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK FLOOR WIRE (SHORT TO B+) 
    1. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      J74-1 (BCR+) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V
      J74-2 (BCR-) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V

    NG → REPLACE FLOOR WIRE 

    OK: Go to next step 

  6. CHECK FLOOR WIRE (SHORT TO GROUND) 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.

    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
      WARNING:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      J74-1 (BCR+) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher
      J74-2 (BCR-) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher

  7. CHECK FLOOR WIRE AND FRONT DOOR WIRE RH (OPEN) 
    1. Using the service wire, connect terminals 2 (BDR+) and 1 (BDR-) of connector E.

  8. CHECK FLOOR WIRE AND FRONT DOOR WIRE RH (SHORT) 
    1. Disconnect the service wire from connector E.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      J76-1 (BDR+) - J76-2 (BDR-) Always 1 MΩ or higher

  9. CHECK FLOOR WIRE AND FRONT DOOR WIRE RH (SHORT TO B+) 
    1. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      J76-1 (BDR+) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V
      J76-2 (BDR-) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V

  10. CHECK FLOOR WIRE AND FRONT DOOR WIRE RH (SHORT TO GROUND)

    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
      WARNING:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      J76-1 (BDR+) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher
      J76-2 (BDR-) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher

  11. CHECK SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY RH 
    1. Connect the connectors to the door side airbag sensor RH and airbag sensor assembly.

    2. Interchange the side airbag sensor assembly RH with the side airbag sensor assembly LH and connect the connectors to them.
    3. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.
    4. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    5. Clear the DTCs stored in the memory. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [07/2014 - ] .
    6. Turn the ignition switch off.
    7. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    8. Check for DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [07/2014 - ] .
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      DTC B1633/81 is output. A
      DTC B1638/82 is output.
      (for 5 Door)
      B
      DTC B1638/82 is output.
      (for 3 Door)
      C
      DTC B1633/81 or B1638/82 is not output. D

      HINT: 

      Codes other than DTCs B1633/81 and B1638/82 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

    9. Turn the ignition switch off.
    10. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
      WARNING:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

    11. Return the side airbag sensor assembly RH and the side airbag sensor assembly LH to their original positions and connect the connectors to them.

  12. CHECK NO. 2 SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY RH 
    1. Connect the connectors to the door side airbag sensor RH and airbag sensor assembly.

    2. Interchange the No. 2 side airbag sensor assembly RH with the No. 2 side airbag sensor assembly LH and connect the connectors to them.
    3. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.
    4. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    5. Clear the DTCs stored in the memory. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [07/2014 - ] .
    6. Turn the ignition switch off.
    7. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    8. Check for DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [07/2014 - ] .
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      DTC B1633/81 is output. A
      DTC B1638/82 is output.
      (for 5 Door)
      B
      DTC B1638/82 is output.
      (for 3 Door)
      C

    9. Turn the ignition switch off.
    10. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
      WARNING:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

    11. Return the No. 2 side airbag sensor assembly RH and the No. 2 side airbag sensor assembly LH to their original positions and connect the connectors to them.

  13. CHECK DOOR SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR RH 
    1. Interchange the door side airbag sensor RH with the door side airbag sensor LH and connect the connectors to them.

    2. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    4. Clear the DTCs stored in the memory. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [07/2014 - ] .
    5. Turn the ignition switch off.
    6. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    7. Check for DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [07/2014 - ] .
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      DTC B1633/81 or B1638/82 is not output. A
      DTC B1633/81 is output. B
      DTC B1638/82 is output. C

    8. Turn the ignition switch off.
    9. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
      WARNING:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

    10. Return the door side airbag sensor LH and the door side airbag sensor RH to their original positions and connect the connectors to them.

  14. CHECK FRONT DOOR WIRE RH (OPEN) 
    1. Disconnect the floor wire connector from the front door wire RH.

  15. CHECK FRONT DOOR WIRE RH (SHORT) 
    1. Disconnect the floor wire connector from the front door wire RH.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

  16. CHECK FRONT DOOR WIRE RH (SHORT TO B+) 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.
    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

      WARNING:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

    3. Disconnect the front door wire connector from the floor wire.
    4. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.
    5. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    6. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      FJ1-1 (BDR+) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V
      FJ1-2 (BDR-) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V

  17. CHECK FRONT DOOR WIRE RH (SHORT TO GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect the front door wire connector from the floor wire.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      FJ1-1 (BDR+) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher
      FJ1-2 (BDR-) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher

  18. USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [07/2014 - ] 
  19. REPLACE DOOR SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR RH. Refer to  REMOVAL [07/2014 - ] 
  20. REPLACE AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [07/2014 - ] 
  21. REPLACE SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY RH. Refer to  REMOVAL [07/2014 - ] 
  22. INSPECTION PROCEDURE RELEVANT TO OUTPUT DTC. Refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [07/2014 - ] 
  23. REPLACE NO. 2 SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY RH. Refer to  REMOVAL [07/2014 - ] 
  24. REPLACE SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY RH. Refer to  REMOVAL [07/2014 - ] 
  25. REPLACE NO. 2 SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY RH. Refer to  REMOVAL [07/2014 - ]
