DTC P0A84-123: Hybrid Battery Pack Cooling Fan 1 Control Circuit Low [12/2014 - ]: Procedure

  1. CHECK FOR DTCS (HV) See step   1 

    B → See step   20 

    A: Go to next step 

  2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (IG).
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Active Test / Driving the Battery Cooling Fan.
      NOTE: If the Active Test cannot be performed, skip it and proceed to the next step to check fan operates and air is sucked. In accordance with fail-safe system operation, the hybrid vehicle control ECU sends a command to operate the battery cooling fan.
    4. Select air volume mode 6 in the "Driving the Battery Cooling Fan" Active Test to operate the battery cooling blower assembly.
    5. Check that the fan operates and air is sucked into the intake duct.

      HINT: 

      The cooling fan may not stop even when turning the cooling fan off in the "Driving the Battery Cooling Fan" Active Test. This is due to HV system control and not a malfunction.

      OK

      The fan operates.

    6. Turn the ignition switch off.

    NG → See step   7 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BATTERY COOLING BLOWER ASSEMBLY - BATTERY SMART UNIT) 
    WARNING: Be sure to wear insulated gloves.
    1. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.
      NOTE: After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the ignition switch to ON (READY), unless instructed by the repair information because this may cause a malfunction.
    2. Remove the No. 1 hybrid battery exhaust duct. Refer to REMOVAL [12/2014 - ] - Step 10 .
    3. Disconnect connector M41 from the battery cooling blower assembly.
    4. Disconnect connector M39 from the battery smart unit.
    5. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      M41-2 (FP0) - M39-5 (FP0) Ignition switch off Below 1 Ω
      M41-2 (FP0) or M39-5 (FP0) - Body ground Ignition switch off 10 kΩ or higher

      (to Battery Smart Unit)
    6. Connect the battery cooling blower assembly connector.
    7. Connect the battery smart unit connector.
    8. Install the No. 1 hybrid battery exhaust duct.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (BATTERY COOLING BLOWER ASSEMBLY - BATTERY SMART UNIT) 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK BATTERY SMART UNIT (FREQUENCY) See step   6

    A: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK BATTERY SMART UNIT See step   7

  7. CHECK FUSE (BATT FAN) 
    1. Remove the BATT FAN fuse from the No. 2 engine room relay block and No. 2 junction block assembly.
    2. Measure the resistance of the BATT FAN fuse.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      BATT FAN fuse Always Below 1 Ω
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *1 No. 2 Engine Room Relay Block and No. 2 Junction Block Assembly
      *2 BATT FAN Fuse

    NG → See step   14 

    OK: Go to next step 

  8. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (VOLTAGE) 
    1. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.
      NOTE: After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the ignition switch to ON (READY), unless instructed by the repair information because this may cause a malfunction.
    2. Remove the rear seat cushion leg sub-assembly. Refer to REMOVAL [12/2014 - ] - Step 4 .
    3. Connect the cable to the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
    4. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    5. Turn the ignition switch to ON (IG).
      NOTE:
      • After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the ignition switch to ON (READY), unless instructed by the repair information because this may cause a malfunction.
      • If the ignition switch is turned to on (IG) with the service plug grip removed, DTC P0A0D-350 for the interlock switch system will be stored. If this DTC is output, clear the DTC using the Techstream. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [12/2014 - ] .
    6. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.
    7. Clear DTCs and freeze frame data.
      NOTE: When DTCs are cleared, freeze frame data and INF codes are also cleared.
    8. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Active Test / Driving the Battery Cooling Fan.
      NOTE: If the Active Test cannot be performed, skip it and proceed to the next step to check voltage. In accordance with fail-safe system operation, the hybrid vehicle control ECU sends a command to operate the battery cooling fan.
    9. Enter the following menus: All Data / VMF Fan Motor Voltage 1.
    10. Select each air volume mode (1 to 6) in the "Driving the Battery Cooling Fan" Active Test to operate the battery cooling blower assembly.
    11. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      M41-1 (IG0) - Body ground Battery cooling blower assembly is operating 11 to 14 V

      NOTE: Turning the ignition switch to ON (IG) with the service plug grip removed causes other DTCs to be stored. Clear the DTCs after performing this inspection.

      HINT: 

      Measure the voltage on the wire side of the connector that is part of the battery cooling blower assembly.

    12. Turn the ignition switch off.
    13. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
    14. Install the rear seat cushion leg sub-assembly.

    NG → See step   11 

    OK: Go to next step 

  9. CHECK BATTERY COOLING BLOWER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.
      NOTE: After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the ignition switch to ON (READY), unless instructed by the repair information because this may cause a malfunction.
    2. Connect the cable to the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
    3. Disconnect connector G58 from the hybrid vehicle control ECU. Refer to REMOVAL [12/2014 - ] .
    4. Turn the ignition switch to ON (IG).
      NOTE:
      • After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the ignition switch to ON (READY), unless instructed by the repair information because this may cause a malfunction.
      • If the ignition switch is turned to on (IG) with the service plug grip removed, DTC P0A0D-350 for the interlock switch system will be stored. If this DTC is output, clear the DTC using the Techstream. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [12/2014 - ] .
    5. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      G58-29 (SI0) - Body ground Ignition switch ON (IG) 4.5 to 5.5 V

      NOTE: Turning the ignition switch to ON (IG) with the service plug grip removed causes other DTCs to be stored. Clear the DTCs after performing this inspection.
    6. Turn the ignition switch off.
    7. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.

    NG → See step   10 

    OK → See step   18 

  10. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BATTERY COOLING BLOWER - HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU) 
    1. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.
      NOTE: After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the ignition switch to ON (READY), unless instructed by the repair information because this may cause a malfunction.
    2. Remove the rear seat cushion leg sub-assembly. Refer to REMOVAL [12/2014 - ] - Step 4 .
    3. Disconnect connector M41 from the battery cooling blower assembly.
    4. Disconnect connector G58 from the hybrid vehicle control ECU. Refer to REMOVAL [12/2014 - ] .
    5. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)

      M41-3 (SI0) - G58-29 (SI0) Ignition switch off Below 1 Ω
      M41-3 (SI0) or G58-29 (SI0) - Body ground Ignition switch off 10 kΩ or higher

      NOTE: When taking a measurement with a tester, do not apply excessive force to the tester probe to avoid damaging the holder.
    6. Connect the cable to the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
    7. Turn the ignition switch to ON (IG).
    8. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      M41-3 (SI0) - Body ground Ignition switch ON (IG) Below 1 V
      NOTE: Turning the ignition switch to ON (IG) with the battery cooling blower assembly connector and hybrid vehicle control ECU connector disconnected causes other DTCs to be stored. Clear the DTCs after performing this inspection.
    9. Turn the ignition switch off.
    10. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
    11. Connect the battery cooling blower assembly connector.
    12. Install the rear seat cushion leg sub-assembly.
    13. Connect the hybrid vehicle control ECU connector.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   17 

  11. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect connector G57 from the hybrid vehicle control ECU. Refer to REMOVAL [12/2014 - ] .
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      G57-5 (E01) - Body ground Ignition switch off Below 1 Ω

      NOTE: When taking a measurement with a tester, do not apply excessive force to the tester probe to avoid damaging the holder.
    3. Connect the hybrid vehicle control ECU connector.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  12. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect connector G58 from the hybrid vehicle control ECU. Refer to REMOVAL [12/2014 - ] .
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      G58-5 (E02) - Body ground Ignition switch off Below 1 Ω

      NOTE: When taking a measurement with a tester, do not apply excessive force to the tester probe to avoid damaging the holder.
    3. Connect the hybrid vehicle control ECU connector.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  13. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (IGCT RELAY - BATTERY COOLING BLOWER ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Remove the IGCT relay.
    2. Remove the rear seat cushion leg sub-assembly. Refer to REMOVAL [12/2014 - ] - Step 4 .
    3. Disconnect connector M41 from the battery cooling blower assembly.
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

    5. Install the IGCT relay.
    6. Connect the battery cooling blower assembly connector.
    7. Install the rear seat cushion leg sub-assembly.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   18 

  14. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BATT FAN FUSE - BATTERY COOLING BLOWER ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Remove the BATT FAN fuse.
    2. Remove the rear seat cushion leg sub-assembly. Refer to REMOVAL [12/2014 - ] - Step 4 .
    3. Disconnect connector M41 from the battery cooling blower assembly.
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      M41-1 (IG0) - Terminals other than 2 (BATT FAN fuse block) and body ground Ignition switch off 10 kΩ or higher

    5. Install the BATT FAN fuse.
    6. Connect the battery cooling blower assembly connector.
    7. Install the rear seat cushion leg sub-assembly.

    OK: Go to next step 

  15. REPLACE BATTERY COOLING BLOWER ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to COMPONENTS [12/2014 - ]

    NEXT → REPLACE FUSE (BATT FAN) 

  16. REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    NEXT → REPLACE FUSE (BATT FAN) 

  17. REPLACE BATTERY COOLING BLOWER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  COMPONENTS [12/2014 - ] 
  18. REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU. Refer to  COMPONENTS [12/2014 - ] 
  19. REPLACE BATTERY SMART UNIT. Refer to  COMPONENTS [12/2014 - ] 
  20. GO TO DTC TABLE (P0AFC-123). Refer to  DTC P0AFC-123: Hybrid Battery Pack Sensor Module [12/2014 - ]
