DTC P0A2C-247: Drive Motor "A" Temperature Sensor Circuit Low; DTC P0A2D-249: Drive Motor "A" Temperature Sensor Circuit High [12/2014 - ]: Procedure

  1. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR) See step   1 

    NG → CONNECT SECURELY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (MOTOR TEMP NO1) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (IG).
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / Motor Temp No1.
    4. Read the Data List.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      -40°C (-40°F) A
      215°C (419°F) B
      Same as actual temperature C
    5. Turn the ignition switch off.

    B → See step   5 

    C → See step   9 

    A: Go to next step 

  3. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (CHECK FOR OPEN) 
    1. Disconnect the motor temperature sensor connector.

    2. Connect terminals 2 (MMT) and 1 (MMTG) of vehicle side connector C25 of the motor temperature sensor.

    3. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    4. Turn the ignition switch to ON (IG).
    5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / Motor Temp No1.
    6. Read the Data List.

      OK

      Tester Display Condition Specified Condition
      Motor Temp No1 Terminals MMT and MMTG connected.
      Ignition switch ON (IG)
      215°C (419°F)

      *a Front view of wire harness connector
      (to Motor Temperature Sensor)

      HINT: 

      The motor temperature sensor is not available separately. If it requires replacement, replace the hybrid vehicle transaxle assembly.

    7. Turn the ignition switch off.
    8. Connect the motor temperature sensor connector.

    NG → See step   4 

    OK → See step   8 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU - MOTOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR) 
    1. Connect terminals 24 (MMT) and 23 (MMTG) of connector A38 of the hybrid vehicle control ECU.

    2. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON (IG).
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / Motor Temp No1.
    5. Read the Data List.

      OK

      Tester Display Condition Specified Condition
      Motor Temp No1 Terminals MMT and MMTG connected.
      Ignition switch ON (IG)
      215°C (419°F)

      (Hybrid Vehicle Control ECU)
    6. Turn the ignition switch off.

    NG → See step   7 

    OK → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

  5. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (CHECK FOR SHORT) 
    1. Disconnect the motor temperature sensor connector.

    2. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON (IG).
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / Motor Temp No1.
    5. Read the Data List.

      OK

      Tester Display Condition Specified Condition
      Motor Temp No1 Ignition switch ON (IG) -40°C (-40°F)

      HINT: 

      The motor temperature sensor is not available separately. If it requires replacement, replace the hybrid vehicle transaxle assembly.

    6. Turn the ignition switch off.
    7. Connect the motor temperature sensor connector.

    NG → See step   6 

    OK → See step   8 

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (MOTOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR - HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU) 
    1. Disconnect the motor temperature sensor connector.
    2. Disconnect connector A38 from the hybrid vehicle control ECU.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      C25-2 (MMT) - A38-24 (MMT) Ignition switch off Below 1 Ω
      C25-1 (MMTG) - A38-23 (MMTG) Ignition switch off Below 1 Ω

      Standard Resistance (Check for Short)

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      C25-2 (MMT) or A38-24 (MMT) - Body ground and other terminals Ignition switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      C25-1 (MMTG) or A38-23 (MMTG) - Body ground and other terminals Ignition switch off 10 kΩ or higher

      (to Hybrid Vehicle Control ECU)
    4. Connect the hybrid vehicle control ECU connector.
    5. Connect the motor temperature sensor connector.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   7 

  7. REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU. Refer to  COMPONENTS [12/2014 - ] 
  8. REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY. Refer to  COMPONENTS [12/2014 - ] 
  9. CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS. Refer to  CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS [12/2014 - ]
