DTC P0617-142: Starter Relay Circuit High [12/2014 - ]: Procedure

  1. CHECK VEHICLE CONDITION 
    1. Check the vehicle condition.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      w/ Smart Key System A
      w/o Smart Key System B

    B → See step   6 

    A: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR) See step   1 

    NG → CONNECT SECURELY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (CERTIFICATION ECU (SMART KEY ECU ASSEMBLY) CONNECTOR) 
    1. Check the connector connection condition of the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly). Refer to COMPONENTS [12/2014 - ] .

      OK

      The connector is connected securely and there are no contact problems.

    NG → CONNECT SECURELY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ST2 TERMINAL VOLTAGE) 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      G57-9 (ST2) - Body ground Power switch off Below 1 V

      *a Component with harness connected
      (Hybrid Vehicle Control ECU)

    NG → See step   5 

    OK → See step   10 

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (CERTIFICATION ECU (SMART KEY ECU ASSEMBLY) - HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU) 
    1. Disconnect connector G85 from the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) connector.
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      G57-9 (ST2) - Body ground Power switch off Below 1 V
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *a Component with harness connected
      (Hybrid Vehicle Control ECU)
    3. Connect the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) connector.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → REPLACE CERTIFICATION ECU (SMART KEY ECU ASSEMBLY) 

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ST2 TERMINAL VOLTAGE) 
    1. Disconnect connector G57 from the hybrid vehicle control ECU.
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      G57-9 (ST2) - Body ground Ignition switch off Below 1 V

      *a Rear view of wire harness connector
      (to Hybrid Vehicle Control ECU)
    3. Connect the hybrid vehicle control ECU connector.

    NG → See step   9 

    OK: Go to next step 

  7. CLEAR DTC 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (IG).
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.
    4. Read and record the DTCs and freeze frame data.
    5. Clear the DTCs and freeze frame data.
    6. Turn the ignition switch off.

    NEXT: Go to next step 

  8. CHECK DTC OUTPUT (HYBRID CONTROL) 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off and leave the vehicle as it is for approximately 5 seconds.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (IG) again.
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.
    4. Recheck for DTCs.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      P0617-142 is output again. A
      P0617-142 is not output. B
    5. Turn the ignition switch off.

    B → See step   11 

    A → See step   10 

  9. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (IGNITION OR STARTER SWITCH ASSEMBLY - HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU) 
    1. Disconnect connector G15 from the ignition or starter switch assembly connector.
    2. Disconnect connector G57 from the hybrid vehicle control ECU connector.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      G15-7 (ST2) or G57-9 (ST2) - Body ground and other terminals Ignition switch off Below 1 V

      (to Ignition or Starter Switch Assembly)
      *b Rear view of wire harness connector
      (to Hybrid Vehicle Control ECU)
    4. Connect the hybrid vehicle control ECU connector.
    5. Connect the ignition or starter switch assembly connector.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   12 

  10. REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU. Refer to  COMPONENTS [12/2014 - ] 
  11. CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS. Refer to  CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS [12/2014 - ] 
  12. REPLACE IGNITION OR STARTER SWITCH ASSEMBLY. Refer to  COMPONENTS [12/2014 - ]
