DTC P0516-769: Battery Temperature Sensor Circuit Low; DTC P0517-770: Battery Temperature Sensor Circuit High [12/2014 - ]: Procedure

  1. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR) 
    1. Check the connector connections and contact pressure of the relevant terminals for the hybrid vehicle control ECU connectors. Refer to ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT INSPECTION PROCEDURE [12/2014 - ] .

      OK

      The connectors are connected securely and there are no contact pressure problems.

    NG → CONNECT SECURELY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (AUXILIARY BATT TEMPERATURE) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (IG).
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / Auxiliary Batt Temperature.
    4. Read the Data List.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      -40°C (-40°F) A
      215°C (419°F) B
      Same as actual temperature C
    5. Turn the ignition switch off.

    B → See step   5 

    C → See step   7 

    A: Go to next step 

  3. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (CHECK FOR OPEN) 
    1. Disconnect connector M43 from the battery thermometer sensor.

    2. Connect terminals 2 (THB) and 1 (E2) of vehicle side connector M43 of the battery thermometer sensor.

    3. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    4. Turn the ignition switch to ON (IG).
    5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / Auxiliary Batt Temperature.
    6. Read the Data List.

      OK

      Tester Display Condition Specified Condition
      Auxiliary Batt Temperature Terminals THB and E2 connected.
      Ignition switch ON (IG)
      215°C (419°F)

      *a Front view of wire harness connector
      (to Battery Thermometer Sensor)
    7. Turn the ignition switch off.
    8. Connect the battery thermometer sensor connector.

    NG → See step   4 

    OK → REPLACE BATTERY THERMOMETER SENSOR 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU - BATTERY THERMOMETER SENSOR) 
    1. Connect terminals 20 (THB) and 21 (ETHB) of connector G58 of the hybrid vehicle control ECU.

    2. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON (IG).
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / Auxiliary Batt Temperature.
    5. Read the Data List.

      OK

      Tester Display Condition Specified Condition
      Auxiliary Batt Temperature Terminals THB and ETHB connected.
      Ignition switch ON (IG)
      215°C (419°F)

    6. Turn the ignition switch off.

    NG → See step   8 

    OK → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

  5. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (CHECK FOR SHORT) 
    1. Disconnect connector M43 from the battery thermometer sensor.

    2. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON (IG).
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / Auxiliary Batt Temperature.
    5. Read the Data List.

      OK

      Tester Display Switch Condition Specified Condition
      Auxiliary Batt Temperature Ignition switch ON (IG) -40°C (-40°F)
    6. Turn the ignition switch off.
    7. Connect the battery thermometer sensor connector.

    NG → See step   6 

    OK → REPLACE BATTERY THERMOMETER SENSOR 

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BATTERY THERMOMETER SENSOR - HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU) 
    1. Disconnect connector M43 from the battery thermometer sensor.
    2. Disconnect connector G58 from the hybrid vehicle control ECU.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      M43-2 (THB) - G58-20 (THB) Ignition switch off Below 1 Ω
      M43-1 (E2) - G58-21 (ETHB) Ignition switch off Below 1 Ω

      Standard Resistance (Check for Short)

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      M43-2 (THB) or G58-20 (THB)- Body ground and other terminals Ignition switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      M43-1 (E2) or G58-21 (ETHB)- Body ground and other terminals Ignition switch off 10 kΩ or higher

    4. Connect the battery thermometer sensor connector.
    5. Connect the hybrid vehicle control ECU connector.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   8 

  7. CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS. Refer to  CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS [12/2014 - ] 
  8. REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU. Refer to  COMPONENTS [12/2014 - ]
