Transmission Control Switch Circuit [11/2016 - ]: Procedure

  1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (Shift SW Status (S Range)) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Data List / Shift SW Status (S Range).
    5. Read the Data List according to the display on the Techstream.

      Powertrain > Engine > Data List 

      Tester Display Measurement Item Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
      Shift SW Status (S Range) Sport mode select switch status ON or OFF
      • ON: Shift lever in S, "+" or "-"
      • OFF: Shift lever not in S, "+" or "-"

  2. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (SPORT SHIFT UP SW AND SPORT SHIFT DOWN SW) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Data List / Sport Shift Up SW and Sport Shift Down SW.
    5. Read the Data List according to the display on the Techstream.

      Powertrain > Engine > Data List

      Sport Shift Up SW Sport shift up switch status ON or OFF
      • ON: Shift lever held in "+"
      • OFF: Shift lever not held in "+"

  3. INSPECT TRANSMISSION CONTROL SWITCH (TRANSMISSION FLOOR SHIFT ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the F46 transmission control switch connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      *a Component without harness connected
      (Transmission Control Switch (Transmission Floor Shift Assembly))

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      2 (SFTU) - 5 (E) Shift lever held in "+" (Up shift) Below 1 Ω
      Shift lever not held in "+" (Up shift) 10 kΩ or higher
      1 (SFTD) - 5 (E) Shift lever held in "-" (Down shift) Below 1 Ω
      Shift lever not held in "-" (Down shift) 10 kΩ or higher

    REPLACE TRANSMISSION FLOOR SHIFT ASSEMBLY (TRANSMISSION CONTROL SWITCH). Refer to  COMPONENTS [11/2016 - ]

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (TRANSMISSION CONTROL SWITCH - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect the F46 transmission control switch connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F46-5 (E) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result:  2

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (TRANSMISSION CONTROL SWITCH - BODY GROUND) 

    Result:  1

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (TRANSMISSION CONTROL SWITCH - ECM) 
    1. Connect the F46 transmission control switch connector.
    2. Disconnect the A43 ECM connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A43-38 (SFTU) - Body ground Shift lever held in "+" (Up shift) Below 1 Ω
      A43-38 (SFTU) - Body ground Shift lever not held in "+" (Up shift) 10 kΩ or higher
      A43-37 (SFTD) - Body ground Shift lever held in "-" (Down shift) Below 1 Ω
      A43-37 (SFTD) - Body ground Shift lever not held in "-" (Down shift) 10 kΩ or higher

      Result

      NG

    Result:  1

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (TRANSMISSION CONTROL SWITCH - ECM) 

  6. INSPECT TRANSMISSION CONTROL SWITCH (TRANSMISSION FLOOR SHIFT ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the F46 transmission control switch connector.

      *a Component without harness connected
      (Transmission Control Switch (Transmission Floor Shift Assembly))
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      3 (IG) - 7 (S) Shift lever in S, "+" or "-" Below 1 Ω
      Shift lever not in S, "+" or "-" 10 kΩ or higher

      Result

      Proceed to

      NG

    Result:  2

    REPLACE TRANSMISSION FLOOR SHIFT ASSEMBLY (TRANSMISSION CONTROL SWITCH). Refer to  COMPONENTS [11/2016 - ]

  7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (TRANSMISSION CONTROL SWITCH (POWER SOURCE)) 
    1. Disconnect the F46 transmission control switch connector.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F46-3 (IG) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V

      Result

      Proceed to

      NG

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (TRANSMISSION CONTROL SWITCH (POWER SOURCE))

  8. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (TRANSMISSION CONTROL SWITCH - ECM) 
    1. Disconnect the F46 transmission control switch connector.
    2. Disconnect the A43 ECM connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F46-7 (S) - A43-17 (S) Always Below 1 Ω
      F46-7 (S) or A43-17 (S) - Body ground and other terminals Always 10 kΩ or higher

      Result

      Proceed to

      NG
