DTC P0011-07: Camshaft Position "A" - Timing Over-Advanced or System Performance Bank 1 Mechanical Failure; DTC P0021-07: Camshaft Position "A" - Timing Over-Advanced or System Performance Bank 2 Mechanical Failure [11/2016 - ]: Procedure

  1. PERFORM SIMULATION TEST (CHECK FOR ABNORMAL NOISE) 
    1. Start the engine.
    2. Check for abnormal noise (rattling sounds) from the camshaft timing gear assembly with the engine idling.
      Result Proceed to
      Abnormal noise (rattling sound) from the camshaft timing gear assembly is heard. A
      Abnormal noise (rattling sound) from the camshaft timing gear assembly is not heard. B

      HINT: 

      • As the engine speed increases, the camshaft timing gear assembly lock pins will release and the abnormal noise (rattling sound) will disappear.
      • Perform "Inspection After Repair" after replacing the camshaft timing gear assembly.

        Refer to INITIALIZATION [11/2016 - ]

    Result: 

    A 

    REPLACE CAMSHAFT TIMING GEAR BOLT (CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE [FOR INTAKE CAMSHAFT]) AND CAMSHAFT TIMING GEAR ASSEMBLY. 

    Refer to  REMOVAL [11/2016 - ]

  2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (CONTROL THE INTAKE VVT OCV DUTY RATIO) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Start the engine.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Active Test / Control the Intake VVT OCV Duty Ratio Bank 1 or Control the Intake VVT OCV Duty Ratio Bank 2 / Data List / Intake VVT Change Angle Bank 1 or Intake VVT Change Angle Bank 2.

      Powertrain > Engine > Active Test 

      Active Test Display
      Control the Intake VVT OCV Duty Ratio Bank 1
      Data List Display
      Intake VVT Change Angle Bank 1

      Powertrain > Engine > Active Test 

      Active Test Display
      Control the Intake VVT OCV Duty Ratio Bank 2
      Data List Display
      Intake VVT Change Angle Bank 2
    5. Read the Data List while performing the Active Test with the engine idling.

      OK

      Techstream Operation Data List (Intake VVT Change Angle Bank 1 or Bank 2)
      -100% to 100% Varies by 70 DegFR or more
      Proceed to

      NG

  3. CHECK WHETHER DTC OUTPUT RECURS (DTC P0011-07 OR P0021-07) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Clear the DTCs.

      Powertrain > Engine > Clear DTCs 

    5. Turn the ignition switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.
    6. Start the engine.
    7. Turn the Techstream on.
    8. Drive the vehicle in accordance with the driving pattern described in Confirmation Driving Pattern.
    9. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Utility / All Readiness.

      Powertrain > Engine > Utility 

      Tester Display
      All Readiness
    10. Input the DTC: P0011-07 or P0021-07.
    11. Check the DTC judgment result.
      Result Proceed to
      NORMAL
      (DTCs are not output)
      A
      ABNORMAL
      (DTC P0011-07 or P0021-07 is output)
      B

    Result:

    CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS.

  4. INSPECT CAM TIMING OIL CONTROL SOLENOID ASSEMBLY (FOR INTAKE CAMSHAFT) 
    1. Inspect the cam timing oil control solenoid assembly (for intake camshaft).

      Refer to INSPECTION [11/2016 - ]

      Proceed to

      NG

  5. INSPECT CAMSHAFT TIMING GEAR BOLT (CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY [FOR INTAKE CAMSHAFT]) 
    1. Inspect the camshaft timing gear bolt (camshaft timing oil control valve assembly [for intake camshaft]).
      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    OK

  6. REPLACE CAM TIMING OIL CONTROL SOLENOID ASSEMBLY (FOR INTAKE CAMSHAFT) 
    1. Replace the cam timing oil control solenoid assembly (for intake camshaft).

      Refer to REMOVAL [11/2016 - ]

    Result:

  7. INSPECT CAMSHAFT TIMING GEAR BOLT (CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY [FOR INTAKE CAMSHAFT]) 
    1. Inspect the camshaft timing gear bolt (camshaft timing oil control valve assembly [for intake camshaft]).
      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

  8. REPLACE CAMSHAFT TIMING GEAR BOLT (CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY [FOR INTAKE CAMSHAFT]) 
    1. Replace the camshaft timing gear bolt (camshaft timing oil control valve assembly [for intake camshaft]).

  9. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (CONTROL THE INTAKE VVT OCV DUTY RATIO) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Start the engine.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Active Test / Control the Intake VVT OCV Duty Ratio Bank 1 or Control the Intake VVT OCV Duty Ratio Bank 2 / Data List / Intake VVT Change Angle Bank 1 or Intake VVT Change Angle Bank 2.

      Powertrain > Engine > Active Test

    5. Read the Data List while performing the Active Test with the engine idling.

  10. REPLACE CAMSHAFT TIMING GEAR ASSEMBLY 
    1. Replace the camshaft timing gear assembly.

      Refer to REMOVAL [11/2016 - ]

      HINT: 

      Perform "Inspection After Repair" after replacing the camshaft timing gear assembly.

      Refer to INITIALIZATION [11/2016 - ]

    Result:

  11. CHECK WHETHER DTC OUTPUT RECURS (DTC P0011-07 OR P0021-07) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
