DTC P0AA4-232: Hybrid Battery Negative Contactor Circuit Stuck Closed [10/2014 - 10/2015]: Procedure

  1. CHECK DTC OUTPUT (HYBRID CONTROL) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.
    4. Check for DTCs.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      P0AA4-232 only is output, or DTCs except the ones in the tables below are also output. A
      Any of the following DTCs including pending DTCs in the table 1 below are also output. B
      Any of the following DTCs in the table 2 below are also output. C

      HINT: 

      • *1: If any INF codes are output for this DTC, refer to the corresponding diagnostic procedure.
      • P0AA4-232 may be stored due to a malfunction which causes the DTCs in the preceding tables to be stored. In this case, first troubleshoot the output DTCs in the preceding tables. Then, perform a reproduction test to check that no DTCs are output.
    5. Turn the power switch off.

    Result: 

    GO TO DTC CHART (HYBRID CONTROL SYSTEM) 

    (Refer to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [10/2014 - 10/2015] )

    Result: 

    GO TO DTC CHART (HYBRID BATTERY SYSTEM) 

    (Refer to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [10/2014 - 10/2015] )

    Result:

  2. CHECK FREEZE FRAME DATA (HYBRID CONTROL) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.
    4. Read the freeze frame data of DTC P0AA4-232.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      Batt Pack Current Val is 3 A or more. A
      Batt Pack Current Val is less than 3 A. B
    5. Turn the power switch off.

    Result: 

    REPLACE INVERTER WITH CONVERTER ASSEMBLY

  3. CHECK HV BATTERY JUNCTION BLOCK ASSEMBLY 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

    HINT: 

    • If a system main relay is stuck closed, inspect the hybrid battery junction block assembly without removing it from the vehicle, in order to keep the relay closed.
    • If the result of reading the freeze frame data is A, the hybrid battery junction block assembly must be replaced. Measuring resistance can determine that this is either a present or past malfunction.
    1. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the power switch on (READY), unless otherwise instructed because this may cause a malfunction.

    2. Remove the No. 1 hybrid battery shield sub-assembly (Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 10 ).
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      b3-1 (CEI) - i1-1 (-) Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
    4. Install the No. 1 hybrid battery shield sub-assembly.

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE HV BATTERY JUNCTION BLOCK ASSEMBLY 

    (Refer to COMPONENTS [10/2014 - ] )

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE HV BATTERY JUNCTION BLOCK ASSEMBLY
