DTC P0516-769: Battery Temperature Sensor Circuit Low; DTC P0517-770: Battery Temperature Sensor Circuit High [10/2014 - 10/2015]: Procedure

  1. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR)

    NG 

    CONNECT SECURELY 

    OK

  2. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (AUXILIARY BATT TEMPERATURE) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / Auxiliary Batt Temperature.
    4. Read the Data List.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      -40°C (-40°F) A
      215°C (419°F) B
      Same as actual temperature C
    5. Turn the power switch off.

    CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS 

    (Refer to CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS [10/2014 - ] )

  3. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (CHECK FOR OPEN) 
    1. Disconnect the K24 thermistor assembly connector.

    2. Connect terminals 2 (THB) and 1 (E2) of vehicle side connector K24 of the thermistor assembly.

      *a Front view of wire harness connector
      (to Thermistor Assembly)
    3. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    4. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / Auxiliary Batt Temperature.
    6. Read the Data List.

      Result

      Tester Display Condition Specified Condition
      Auxiliary Batt Temperature Terminals THB and E2 connected.
      Power switch on (IG)
      215°C (419°F)
    7. Turn the power switch off.
    8. Reconnect the K24 thermistor assembly connector.

    OK 

    REPLACE THERMISTOR ASSEMBLY 

    NG

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU - THERMISTOR ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Connect terminals 28 (THB) and 30 (ETHB) of connector D104 of the power management control ECU.

      *a Component with harness connected
      (Power Management Control ECU)
    2. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    3. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / Auxiliary Batt Temperature.
    5. Read the Data List.

      Result

      Tester Display Condition Specified Condition
      Auxiliary Batt Temperature Terminals THB and ETHB connected.
      Power switch on (IG)
      215°C (419°F)
    6. Turn the power switch off.

    OK 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    NG 

    REPLACE POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU 

    (Refer to COMPONENTS [10/2014 - 10/2015] )

  5. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (CHECK FOR SHORT) 
    1. Disconnect the K24 thermistor assembly connector.

    2. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    3. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / Auxiliary Batt Temperature.
    5. Read the Data List.

      Result

      Tester Display Condition Specified Condition
      Auxiliary Batt Temperature Power switch on (IG) -40°C (-40°F)
    6. Turn the power switch off.
    7. Reconnect the K24 thermistor assembly connector.

    OK 

    REPLACE THERMISTOR ASSEMBLY 

    NG

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (THERMISTOR ASSEMBLY - POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU) 
    1. Disconnect the K24 thermistor assembly connector.
    2. Disconnect the D104 power management control ECU connector.

      (to Thermistor Assembly)
      *b Rear view of wire harness connector
      (to Power Management Control ECU)
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      K24-2 (THB) - D104-28 (THB) Power switch off Below 1 Ω
      K24-1 (E2) - D104-30 (ETHB) Power switch off Below 1 Ω

      Standard Resistance (Check for Short)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      K24-2 (THB) or D104-28 (THB) - Body ground and other terminals Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      K24-1 (E2) or D104-30 (ETHB) - Body ground and other terminals Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
    4. Reconnect the D104 power management control ECU connector.
    5. Reconnect the K24 thermistor assembly connector.

    OK 

    REPLACE POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU 

    (Refer to COMPONENTS [10/2014 - 10/2015] )

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
