DTC P0340-886: Camshaft Position Sensor "A" Circuit [10/2014 - 10/2015]: Procedure

  1. CHECK DTC OUTPUT (HYBRID CONTROL) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.
    4. Check for DTCs.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      P0340-886 only is output. A
      P0343-747 is also output. B
    5. Turn the power switch off.

  2. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (ECM CONNECTOR) 
    1. Check the connector connections and contact pressure of the relevant terminals for the ECM connectors (Refer to ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT INSPECTION PROCEDURE [10/2014 - ] ).

      NOTE:

      Before disconnecting the connector, confirm that it is properly connected by checking that the locking claws are engaged and that the connector does not pull out.

      OK

      The connectors are connected securely and there are no contact pressure problems.

      HINT: 

      When connecting the connector, insert it with the locking lever in the raised position. Rotate the lever downward and make sure that the connector is pulled into its socket. When the locking lever is in its fully closed position, a click will be heard as its locking claws engage. After the click is heard, pull up on the connector to confirm that it is properly connected.

    NG

  3. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR) 
    1. Check the connector connections and contact pressure of the relevant terminals for the power management control ECU connectors (Refer to ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT INSPECTION PROCEDURE [10/2014 - ] ).

      OK

      The connectors are connected securely and there are no contact pressure problems.

    NG 

    CONNECT SECURELY

  4. CHECK POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU (CHECK WAVEFORM) 
    1. Connect an oscilloscope between the power management control ECU terminals specified in the table below.
    2. Turn the power switch on (READY).
    3. Measure the waveform.

      *a Component with harness connected
      (Power Management Control ECU)

      Terminal A53-16 (GI) - D104-6 (E1)
      Equipment Setting 5 V/DIV., 20 ms./DIV.
      Condition Power switch on (READY) with engine running

      Result

    4. Turn the power switch off.

  5. CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS 

    (Refer to CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS [10/2014 - ] )

    OK 

    REPLACE POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU 

    (Refer to COMPONENTS [10/2014 - 10/2015] )

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE MALFUNCTIONING PARTS, COMPONENT AND AREA 

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU) 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

    1. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the power switch on (READY), unless otherwise instructed because this may cause a malfunction.

    2. Disconnect the A18 ECM connector.
    3. Disconnect the A50 inverter with converter assembly connector.
    4. Connect the cable to the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
    5. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    6. Measure the voltage according to the value (s) in the table below.

      *a Front view of wire harness connector
      (to ECM)

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A18-60 (G2O) - Body ground Power switch on (IG) 11 to 14 V
      NOTE:

      Turning the power switch on (IG) with the ECM connector disconnected causes other DTCs to be stored. Clear the DTCs after performing this inspection.

    7. Turn the power switch off.
    8. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
    9. Reconnect the A50 inverter with converter assembly connector.
    10. Reconnect the A18 ECM connector.

    OK 

    REPLACE ECM 

    (Refer to COMPONENTS [10/2014 - ] )

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

  7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM - POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU, INVERTER WITH CONVERTER) 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

    1. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the power switch on (READY), unless otherwise instructed because this may cause a malfunction.

    2. Disconnect the A18 ECM connector.
    3. Disconnect the A53 power management control ECU connector.
    4. Disconnect the A50 inverter with converter assembly connector.
    5. Connect the cable to the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
    6. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    7. Measure the voltage according to the value (s) in the table below.

      (to Power Management Control ECU)

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A18-60 (G2O) or A53-16 (GI) - Body ground Power switch on (IG) Below 1 V
      NOTE:

      Turning the power switch on (IG) with the inverter with converter assembly connector, power management control ECU connector and ECM connector disconnected causes other DTCs to be stored. Clear the DTCs after performing this inspection.

    8. Turn the power switch off.
    9. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A18-60 (G2O) or A53-16 (GI) - Body ground Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
    10. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
    11. Reconnect the A18 ECM connector.
    12. Reconnect the A53 power management control ECU connector.
    13. Reconnect the A50 inverter with converter assembly connector.

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK

  8. CHECK POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU 
    1. Disconnect the A53, A54, D104 and D105 power management control ECU connectors.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      *a Component without harness connected
      (Power Management Control ECU)

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A53-16 (GI) - D104-6 (E1) Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
    3. Reconnect the A53, A54, D104 and D105 power management control ECU connectors.

    NG 

    REPLACE POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU 

    (Refer to COMPONENTS [10/2014 - 10/2015] )

  9. CHECK INVERTER WITH CONVERTER ASSEMBLY 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

    1. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the power switch on (READY), unless otherwise instructed because this may cause a malfunction.

    2. Disconnect the A50 inverter with converter assembly connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      (Inverter with Converter Assembly)

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A50-1 (GI) - A50-10 (GND1) Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
    4. Reconnect the A50 inverter with converter assembly connector.

    OK 

    REPLACE ECM 

    (Refer to COMPONENTS [10/2014 - ] )

    NG 

    REPLACE INVERTER WITH CONVERTER ASSEMBLY 

    (Refer to COMPONENTS [10/2014 - ] )
