Check Bus 2 Line for Short to GND [10/2015 - ]: Procedure

  1. CHECK FOR SHORT TO GND IN CAN BUS LINE (ECM - NO. 2 CAN JUNCTION CONNECTOR) 
    1. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-)auxiliary battery terminal.
    2. Disconnect the D81 wire harness connector.

      (to No. 2 CAN Junction Connector)
      *b to ECM
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      D81-1 (CANH) - D28-4 (CG) Cable disconnected from negative (-)auxiliary battery terminal 200 Ω or higher
      D81-2 (CANL) - D28-4 (CG) Cable disconnected from negative (-)auxiliary battery terminal 200 Ω or higher
      NOTE:
      • Before disconnecting the connector, make a note of where it is connected.
      • Reconnect the connector to its original position.

  2. CHECK FOR SHORT TO GND IN CAN BUS LINE (BRANCH LINE) 
    1. Reconnect the D81 wire harness connector.
    2. Connect a tester probe to terminal 1 (CANH) or terminal 2 (CANL) of the No. 2 CAN junction connector and connect the other tester probe to terminal 4 (CG) of the DLC3.

    3. While observing the resistance value shown on the tester, disconnect connectors (D79, D83, D112, D113 and D131) from the No. 2 CAN junction connector or (D74, D76, D114, D115 and D130) from the No. 1 CAN junction connector one by one until the resistance becomes normal (200 Ω or higher).

      NOTE:
      • Do not reconnect the disconnected connectors until this inspection is complete because there may be a short to ground in 2 or more CAN bus lines.
      • Before disconnecting the connector, make a note of where it is connected.
      • Reconnect the connector to its original position.

      HINT: 

      • Connectors that connect to the CAN junction connector can be distinguished by the color of their CAN bus lines.
      • Reconnecting the connectors to non-original positions on the CAN junction connector does not affect system performance. However, it is preferred to reconnect the connectors to their original positions to avoid negative effects on the wiring such as tension on the wire harnesses, and to make future maintenance easier.

      The resistance is still 200 Ω or higher when all the specified connectors are disconnected from the CAN junction connector. (There is a short to ground in the No. 2 CAN junction connector or No. 1 CAN junction connector) A
      The resistance becomes normal (200 Ω or higher) when a connector is disconnected from the CAN junction connector. (There is a short to ground in one of the areas that relate to the disconnected bus lines) B
    4. When there is a short to ground in one or more of the bus lines that connect to an ECU or sensor:
      1. Reconnect all of the connectors to the CAN junction connector, except for the one that was disconnected last (the bus line that is shorted to ground). Check that the resistance shown on the tester is normal (200 Ω or higher) to confirm that there is a short to ground in the one bus line only.

  3. CHECK FOR SHORT TO GND IN CAN BUS LINE (NO. 2 CAN JUNCTION CONNECTOR)

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

  5. CHECK FOR SHORT TO GND IN CAN BUS LINE (NO. 1 CAN JUNCTION CONNECTOR) 
    1. Reconnect the D72 wire harness connector.

  6. CHECK FOR SHORT TO GND IN CAN BUS LINE (COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY - NO. 1 CAN JUNCTION CONNECTOR) 
    1. Reconnect the D73 wire harness connector.

    2. Disconnect the D9 combination meter assembly connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

    REPAIR OR REPLACE CAN MAIN BUS LINE OR CONNECTOR (COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY - NO. 1 CAN JUNCTION CONNECTOR) 

  7. CHECK FOR SHORT TO GND IN CAN BUS LINE (ECU, SENSOR) 
    1. Reconnect the connector for the short-circuited branch line to the CAN junction connector (the connector that caused the bus line resistance to become normal (200 Ω or higher) when it was disconnected).

    2. Disconnect the connector that includes terminals CANH and CANL from the ECU to which the short-circuited branch line is connected.

      Refer to TERMINALS OF ECU [10/2015 - ]

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      D81-1 (CANH) - D81-2 (CANL) Cable disconnected from negative (-)auxiliary battery terminal 200 Ω or higher

      HINT: 

      If the resistance becomes normal (200 Ω or higher) when the connector is disconnected from the ECU, there may be a short in the ECU.

  8. CHECK FOR SHORT TO GND IN CAN BUS LINE (ECM - NO. 2 CAN JUNCTION CONNECTOR) 
    1. Disconnect the A18 ECM connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
