Speedometer Malfunction [12/2012 - 10/2015]: Procedure

  1. CHECK CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM 
    1. Check if a CAN communication system DTC is output.

      Refer to DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM [12/2012 - 11/2013] or DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM [11/2013 - 10/2015] .

      Result Proceed to
      CAN communication system DTC is not output
      CAN communication system DTC is output

    Result: 

    CAN communication system DTC is output 

    GO TO CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM.  Refer to HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [12/2012 - 10/2015] .

    Result: 

    CAN communication system DTC is not output

  2. CHECK VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL SYSTEM 
    1. Check if a vehicle stability control system DTC is output.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [12/2012 - 10/2015] .

      Chassis > ABS/VSC/TRC > Trouble Codes 

      Result Proceed to
      DTC is not output
      Vehicle stability control system DTC is output

    Result: 

    Vehicle stability control system DTC is output 

    GO TO VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL SYSTEM.  Refer to HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [12/2012 - ] .

    Result: 

    DTC is not output

  3. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (SPEED METER OPERATION) 
    1. Using the Techstream, perform the Active Test.

      Refer to DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST [12/2012 - 10/2015] .

      Body Electrical > Combination Meter > Active Test

      for km/h (except Canada) 
      • 40 → 41.7 to 46.2
      • 80 → 83.4 to 88.4
      • 120 → 125.1 to 130.6
      • 160 → 166.2 to 173.2
      • 200 → 207.7 to 215.7

      Body Electrical > Combination Meter > Active Test 

      Tester Display
      Speed Meter Operation

      OK

      Speedometer indication is normal.

      Result Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY.  Refer to REMOVAL [12/2012 - ] .

    Result: 

    OK

  4. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (VEHICLE SPEED METER, VEHICLE SPEED) 
    1. Using the Techstream, read the Data List.

      Refer to DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST [12/2012 - 10/2015] .

      Body Electrical > Combination Meter > Data List

      HINT: 

      • When the Data List values of the ECUs match, an internal malfunction of the combination meter assembly is suspected.
      • When the Data List values of the ECUs do not match, a signal output error of the brake actuator assembly (skid control ECU) or an internal malfunction of the combination meter assembly is suspected.
      Result Proceed to
      The Data List values of the ECUs match
      The Data List values of the ECUs do not match

    Result: 

    The Data List values of the ECUs match 

    REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY.  Refer to REMOVAL [12/2012 - ] .

    Result: 

    The Data List values of the ECUs do not match

  5. CHECK COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Replace the combination meter assembly with a new or normally functioning one.

      Refer to REMOVAL [12/2012 - ] .

    2. Check the speedometer operation.

      OK

      The operation of the speedometer returns to normal.

      Result Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    OK 

    END (COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY WAS DEFECTIVE) 

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY (SKID CONTROL ECU). 

    Refer to REMOVAL [12/2012 - 10/2015] .
