DTC P170F-394: Shift Position Malfunction [09/2013 - ]: Procedure

  1. CHECK ALERT CODE OUTPUT 

    HINT: 

    Confirm the conditions at the time of the malfunction and the freeze frame data for P170F-394, and then try to reproduce the malfunction and confirm the alert code, as the alert code is cleared when the power switch is turned off.

    1. Connect the RAV4 EV diagnostic tool to the No. 2 DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Drive the vehicle a few times while trying to simulate the same conditions that were present at the time the malfunction occurred and that are recorded in the freeze frame data.
    4. Enter the following menus: Alert list.
    5. Check if alert codes are output.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      No alert codes are output. A
      Alert codes are output. B
    6. Turn the power switch off.

    B → See step   7 

    A: Go to next step 

  2. CLEAR DTC 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / EV / Trouble Codes.
    4. Read and record the DTCs and freeze frame data.
    5. Clear the DTCs and freeze frame data.
    6. Turn the power switch off.

    NEXT: Go to next step 

  3. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (EV) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Drive the vehicle a few times while trying to simulate the same conditions that were present at the time the malfunction occurred and that are recorded in the freeze frame data.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / EV / Trouble Codes.
    5. Check if DTCs are output.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      DTC P170F-394 is output again. A
      DTCs other than P170F-394 are also output. B
      No DTCs are output. C
    6. Turn the power switch off.

    B → See step   7 

    C → See step   9 

    A: Go to next step 

  4. REPLACE ELECTRIC VEHICLE TRACTION MOTOR ASSEMBLY 
    1. Replace the electric vehicle traction motor assembly. Refer to REMOVAL [09/2013 - ] .

    NEXT: Go to next step 

  5. CLEAR DTC 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / EV / Trouble Codes.
    4. Read and record the DTCs and freeze frame data.
    5. Clear DTCs and freeze frame data.
    6. Turn the power switch off.

    NEXT: Go to next step 

  6. CHECK DTC 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Drive the vehicle a few times while trying to simulate the same conditions that were present at the time the malfunction occurred and that are recorded in the freeze frame data.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / EV / Trouble Codes.
    5. Check if DTCs are output.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      No DTCs are output. A
      P170F-394 is output again. B
    6. Turn the power switch off.

    B → See step   8 

    A → COMPLETED 

  7. GO TO DTC CHART (HYBRID CONTROL SYSTEM). Refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [09/2013 - ] 
  8. REPLACE POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU. Refer to  REMOVAL [09/2013 - ] 
  9. CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS. Refer to  CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS [09/2013 - ]
