DTC P0851-579: Park / Neutral Switch Input Circuit Low; DTC P0852-580: Park / Neutral Switch Input Circuit High [09/2013 - ]: Procedure

  1. INSPECT P POSITION SWITCH (TRANSMISSION SHIFT MAIN SWITCH) 
    1. Remove the P position switch (transmission shift main switch). Refer to REMOVAL [09/2013 - ] .
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      4 (S) - 2 (E) Switch pressed 680 Ω
      4 (S) - 2 (E) Switch released 4580 Ω

      *a Component without harness connected
      (P Position Switch (Transmission Shift Main Switch))

      HINT: 

      Terminal No. 1 and No. 8 on the component side connector are empty.

    3. Install the P position switch (transmission shift main switch).

    NG → See step   6 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (+B SHORT) 
    1. Remove the PM-IGCT fuse from the No. 1 motor compartment room relay block and junction block assembly.

      *1 No. 1 Motor Compartment Room Relay Block and Junction Block Assembly *2 PM-IGCT Fuse
      *3 No. 2 Motor Compartment Room Relay Block Assembly *4 PM-B Fuse
      *5 No. 7 Relay Block *6 PM-IG2 Fuse
    2. Remove the PM-B fuse from the No. 2 motor compartment room relay block assembly.
    3. Remove the PM-IG2 fuse from the No. 7 relay block.
    4. Disconnect connector E112 from the P position switch (transmission shift main switch).
    5. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      E117-16 (P1) - A56-2 (+B2) Power switch off 1.4 to 1.6 kΩ
      E117-16 (P1) - A57-5 (+B1) Power switch off 1.4 to 1.6 kΩ
      E117-16 (P1) - E117-1 (AM22) Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      E117-16 (P1) - A57-6 (MREL) Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      E117-16 (P1) - A57-1 (IG2) Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      E117-16 (P1) - E117-2 (SMRG) Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      E117-16 (P1) - E117-3 (SMRP) Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      E117-16 (P1) - E117-14 (SPDI) Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      E117-16 (P1) - A56-4 (FCTL) Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher

      (Power Management Control ECU)
    6. Connect the P position switch (transmission shift main switch) connector.
    7. Install the PM-IGCT fuse, PM-B fuse and PM-IG2 fuse.

    NG → See step   5 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU - P POSITION SWITCH (TRANSMISSION SHIFT MAIN SWITCH)) 
    1. Disconnect connector E117 from the power management control ECU.
    2. Disconnect connector E112 from the P position switch (transmission shift main switch).
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      E117-16 (P1) - E112-4 (S) Power switch off Below 1 Ω

      Standard Resistance (Check for Short)

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      E117-16 (P1) or E112-4 (S) - Body ground and other terminals Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher

      (to Power Management Control ECU)

      (to P Position Switch (Transmission Shift Main Switch))

      HINT: 

      As necessary, check that there is no short to power supply wires when performing the above wire harness inspection.

    4. Connect the P position switch (transmission shift main switch) connector.
    5. Connect the power management control ECU connector.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (P POSITION SWITCH (TRANSMISSION SHIFT MAIN SWITCH) - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect connector E112 from the P position switch (transmission shift main switch).
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      E112-2 (E) - Body ground Power switch off Below 1 Ω

    3. Connect the P position switch (transmission shift main switch) connector.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   7 

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SHORT TO POWER SUPPLY WIRES) 
    1. Remove the PM-IGCT fuse from the No. 1 motor compartment room relay block and junction block assembly.

    2. Remove the PM-B fuse from the No. 2 motor compartment room relay block assembly.
    3. Remove the PM-IG2 fuse from the No. 7 relay block.
    4. Disconnect connector E112 from the P position switch (transmission shift main switch).
    5. Disconnect connectors A56, A57 and E117 from the power management control ECU.
    6. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

    7. Connect the power management control ECU connectors.
    8. Connect the P position switch (transmission shift main switch) connector.
    9. Install the PM-IGCT fuse, PM-B fuse and PM-IG2 fuse.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   7 

  6. REPLACE P POSITION SWITCH (TRANSMISSION SHIFT MAIN SWITCH). Refer to  REMOVAL [09/2013 - ] 
  7. REPLACE POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU. Refer to  REMOVAL [09/2013 - ]
