Disassembly [12/2013 - ]: Procedure

  1. REMOVE REAR WHEEL 
  2. SEPARATE REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 2

  3. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTING HOLE PLUG 
  4. REMOVE REAR DISC 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 13

  5. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN TENSION SPRING (for Upper Side) 
    1. Remove the 2 parking brake shoe return tension springs.

      NOTE:

      Be sure to put an identification mark on each parking brake shoe return tension spring so that it can be reinstalled to its original position.

  6. SEPARATE NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the parking brake shoe hold down spring cup and parking brake shoe hold down compression spring to separate the No. 1 parking brake shoe assembly from the backing plate.

  7. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE LEVER STRUT 
    1. Pull the No. 1 parking brake shoe assembly towards the front of the vehicle by hand as shown in the illustration.

    2. Remove the parking brake shoe lever strut.

  8. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE STRUT COMPRESSION SPRING 
    1. Remove the parking brake shoe strut compression spring.

  9. SEPARATE NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the parking brake shoe hold down spring cup and parking brake shoe hold down compression spring to separate the No. 2 parking brake shoe assembly from the backing plate.

  10. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTING SCREW SET 
    1. Remove the parking brake shoe adjusting screw set.

  11. REMOVE NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the No. 1 parking brake shoe assembly.

  12. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN TENSION SPRING (for Lower Side) 
    1. Remove the parking brake shoe return tension spring.

  13. SEPARATE PARKING BRAKE SHOE LEVER 
    1. Using needle-nose pliers, separate the parking brake shoe lever from the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly.

      NOTE:

      Be careful not to damage the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly.

  14. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE LEVER 
    1. Using a screwdriver, remove the parking brake shoe type C washer, parking brake shoe shim and parking brake shoe lever.

      HINT: 

      Parking brake shoe shims are provided when necessary to adjust the clearance between the parking brake shoe lever and parking brake shoe type C washer. Some vehicles may not be equipped with shims.

  15. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE HOLD DOWN SPRING PIN 
    1. for Front Side:
      1. Remove the parking brake shoe hold down spring pin.

    2. for Rear Side:
      1. Remove the parking brake shoe hold down spring pin.

  16. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE GUIDE PLATE 
    1. Remove the parking brake shoe guide plate set bolt and parking brake shoe guide plate.
