DTC P0705: Transmission Range Sensor Circuit Malfunction (PRNDL Input) [12/2013 - ]: Procedure

  1. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BATTERY - PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH) 
    1. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch assembly connector.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C14-1 (RB) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result:  2

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    Result:  1

    OK

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (OUTPUT SIGNAL) 
    1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

      (to Park/Neutral Position Switch Assembly)
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C14-4 (B) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result:  2

  3. INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch assembly connector.

      *a Component without harness connected
      (Park/Neutral Position Switch Assembly)
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below when the shift lever is moved to each position.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C14-4 (B) - C14-9 (L) Shift lever in P or N Below 1 Ω
      Shift lever not in P or N 10 kΩ or higher
      C14-1 (RB) - C14-3 (PL) Shift lever in P Below 1 Ω
      Shift lever not in P 10 kΩ or higher
      C14-1 (RB) - C14-8 (NL) Shift lever in N Below 1 Ω
      Shift lever not in N 10 kΩ or higher
      C14-1 (RB) - C14-2 (RL) Shift lever in R Below 1 Ω
      Shift lever not in R 10 kΩ or higher
      C14-1 (RB) - C14-7 (DL) Shift lever in D, S, "+" or "-" Below 1 Ω
      Shift lever not in D, S, "+" or "-" 10 kΩ or higher

      Result

    REPLACE PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY. Refer to  COMPONENTS [12/2013 - ]

  4. INSPECT TRANSMISSION FLOOR SHIFT ASSEMBLY (TRANSMISSION CONTROL SWITCH) 
    1. Connect the park/neutral position switch assembly connector.

      *a Component without harness connected
      (Transmission Control Switch)
    2. Disconnect the transmission control switch connector from transmission floor shift assembly.
    3. Measure resistance according to the value(s) in the table below when the shift lever is moved to each position.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F46-3 (IG) - F46-7 (S) Shift lever in S, "+" or "-" Below 1 Ω
      Shift lever not in S, "+" or "-" 10 kΩ or higher

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result:  2

    NG 

    REPLACE TRANSMISSION FLOOR SHIFT ASSEMBLY. Refer to  COMPONENTS [12/2013 - ] 

    Result:  1

    OK

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BATTERY - ECM) 
    1. Connect the transmission control switch connector.

      (to ECM)
    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below when the shift lever is moved to each position.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A43-27 (S) - Body ground Shift lever in S, "+" or "-" 11 to 14 V
      Shift lever not in S, "+" or "-" Below 1 V

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result:  2

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    Result:  1

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH - ECM) 
    1. Disconnect the ECM connector.

      (to ECM)
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below when the shift lever is moved to each position.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C1-70 (P) - Body ground Shift lever in P 11 to 14 V
      Shift lever not in P Below 1 V
      C1-71 (N) - Body ground Shift lever in N 11 to 14 V
      Shift lever not in N Below 1 V
      C1-66 (R) - Body ground Shift lever in R 11 to 14 V*
      Shift lever not in R Below 1 V
      C1-67 (D) - Body ground Shift lever in D, S, "+" or "-" 11 to 14 V
      Shift lever not in D, S, "+" or "-" Below 1 V

      HINT: 

      *: The voltage will drop slightly due to lighting up of the back up light.

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

  7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH - ECM) 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.
    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.
    3. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch assembly connector.
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C14-4 (B) - C1-63 (NSW) Always Below 1 Ω

      Standard Resistance (Check for Short)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C14-4 (B) or C1-63 (NSW) - Body ground and other terminals Always 10 kΩ or higher

      Result

      NG

    Result:  1

    OK 

    REPLACE ECM. Refer to  COMPONENTS [12/2013 - 11/2016]  Refer to  COMPONENTS [11/2016 - ]
